I am your opposite. I started shooting photos in 1953, no word of a lie. Film, of course. I shot film exclusively until about 2003, when I finally shot Yellowstone with Fuji Velvia and decided that did it, that gave me what I wanted, and I was done. Time to be a pure tourist and just enjoy. That lasted till 2009 or so, when I picked up a Canon XSi. I've shot digital ever since, and contracted a severe case of GAS. I'm happy with that, because at this stage of my life I enjoy photography as much for the gear as the photos, or as much for the phots as the gear, take your pick, 50/50. I picked up an M11-P because I already understood rangefinders just fine, thenk yew veddy much, and the marriage of that with digital has been pure fun, fun, fun. The photos aren't bad either.

Just the opposite. After shooting film for 40 or so years, I am enjoying the new technology. The most enjoyable camera I use is the a6700 by Sony. It's a tiny rangefinder style camera that can be as complicated as a digital camera can be or purely the most simple camera made. I get the same thrill as I did with my Nikon F2 and FE2. Both incredible cameras that still work today. Your focus should be the ART of Photography, ignore the camera. I am at a point where I have no more love for film. It's expensive. The service I got from a lab was terrible. It was a waste of money. Sure, the thrill of advancing the film was cool, but that lasted for 10 minutes. I think too many assume a camera with a fancy name will make them a better photographer. Not so. It's your eye. But have fun with the different formats. Try some of those twin-lens 6x6 cameras. Those are fun. Have fun with photography, screw around, be silly, be serious but don't get wrapped up with a camera that has the word Leica stamped on it. It's only a camera, nothing more. But I will say one thing and that the Nikon F2 is the best camera ever made. This year I am going to start buying lenses for my Nikon. I sold a few, big mistake, and will get back a couple of lenses I like.

Great pickup bud, that is a very clean looking copy. I am down the same path with Canon F1 and the Leica m6, just great times.

I shoot with an M6 and a Fuji XPro3 and XT5, I think I will get an ALL BLACK MP now, love Leica cameras built like little TANKS!

Great pickup I will tell you film and those negatives can outlast digital files. I’ve noticed my favorite pics have been with my film cams. If you want to be brave venture into Cinestill df96 you can self develop 16 rolls of bnw for around 20 bucks. Then scan them to digital. Right now on the Leica fence too. Just waiting to see what those new Pentax cameras are If one is a fixed lens 35mm with a decent built quality I will get that. Or the Leica route.

I am inspired by your method to beat GAS by buying another camera.

I ordered my MP as a silver chrome a number of years ago now. The store only got a BP MP in. I sort of wish I waited, I really love the silver chrome.

You are the Gas Master. I can’t believe you have not tried the Pixie. You get an actual range finder experience in a digital camera but it has no screens. I’m keeping my 100v but I’m ready to hit but for the next one the minute it’s announced.

Dream film camera for me. Definitely something you keep forever and pass down

Got the Nikon F4 for AF and the Nikon FM3a for all things manual although a battery will allow Aperture priority. It will work fully without a battery though except for Aperture priority. Great camera. Pentax K1000 and Pentax Spotmatic (M42 Pentax SMC Takumar 50mm F1.4 lens) are pure manual. For digital Nikon Z

The MP didn’t cure the gas for me. I ended up getting more rangefinders and then started to get lenses. I shot film for a while then realize I need autofocus to catch my kids and then go back into the digital cameras. Then get sick of it and go back to film. The cycle repeats itself. I’m currently in the DSLR phase. People are dumping their DSLR gear for cheap and moving to mirrorless. Watch. DSLRs will be hot again in 10 years.

Agreed with curing the GAS. I have a cheaper Leica M4-2 but yes, would love a M-A some day…

Ironically I just purchased a point and shoot and SLR film cameras. I'm interested in learning to scan the film negatives.

congrats! I'm getting an MP sometime this year, fingers crossed. Going with the black paint. Lens wise I'm probably going with Voigtlander Lanthar 35mm f/2 APO. I presently shoot with Nikon Fm2, which I love as well. It's awaiting its new companion the MP, lol. Thanks for the video, it got me excited

I speak from experience. Film is not a cure for GAS per se. Film cameras have great potential for GAS due to low price compared to digital cameras, stable resale value and they are masterpieces in build quality compared to digital. Unfortunately, I suffered from GAS for years with both digital and film cameras and owned a lot of gear at one point. Some time ago I sold all my gear and started a project: 1 camera, 1 lens, 1 year. I decided on the Olympus Pen F with a 25mm 2 lens with manual focus. I use it with the flip screen closed so I don't use the display. This combination gives me the best of both worlds: analog feel with the advantage of digital files, with great JPGS that don't need post-processing. I feel really relieved and can concentrate much better on the photography.

Congrats on your purchase, can't go wrong with a film Leica! Last fall I sold all my digital gear and bought a Leica M4P, I am loving the experience so much I am battling the urge to buy a digital Leica with the rest of the money I got from selling all my photography gear.

Hey man! Enjoy your new camera and congratulations! I regret selling my M6 TTL 0.58. I know I'll be getting another one soon. I've had that same MP that you have now too. How do you like the sandpaper (for lack of better words) style of leatherette? I never really liked it, but I know people that love it. I'm impressed with the images that you got out of the little 50mm series E pancake lens on the Nikon. I may have to add one of those to my Nikon kit again. I had one of them years ago.
