@@leotruuut245 the radar or the tracking? Radar is on automatically but you can turn it off default to alt+r I think, to track targets it's alt+f I think, they can also be toggled by pressing Y-1-(something else I forgot)

Actually pretty realistic. The maximum effective range of most MANPADS is very short. they're not supposed to be a ground forces primary anti-air defence anymore than 30mm cannons are. they're an addon that forces nemies to engage from further out which is significantly more expensive to do and may force them to operate at higher altitudes tog et a good sensor picture which exposes them to systems like the patriot batteries, (or their other equivalents like the russian S-300 and S-400 systems). It's also one of the two major reasons the Sergeant York was cancelled IRl before it entered service. Existing US and Warsaw Pact aircraft, (like the SU-25 or the A-10) had a greater maximum effective rnage with their weapon systems than the rnage of the 40mm cannons it was equipped with.

A-10 is shit in every way, has more armor IRL and yet dies when touched by anything and has severe artificial ordnance nerfs. SU-25 on the other hand has none of those issues, has less armor, and yet can survive being hit by Rolands.

The Warthog itself has the titanium bathtub for the pilot whilst the rest of the aircraft generally relies on the control surfaces working in most conditions and the airframe being able to fly on one engine. The Su-25 has its own bathtub armor for the pilot AND varying levels of armor all around the fuselage (generally like 8-15mm, some areas have thinner or thicker armor). I won't deny that the Su-25 is stupid survivable, it should be able to take some hits from MANPADS but not air-to-air missiles, it used to be worse on the release day, nowadays the tail section loves to completely fall off or the plane loses a lot of control, so most eventually still fall out of the sky after a minute or two.

This used to drive me crazy with the RakJPz's - not SAM's but they had the same problem of hitting terrain in front of you unless you aimed up first. I got in the habit of just setting my distance to 2000m to make sure they started out aimed up some. With SAMs though, you do have the problem of losing the lock if you aim up too much.

@@ledinity that’s part of the procedure for firing a Stinger. Once you get a tone -> uncage seeker -> elevate -> fire.

IRL they can barely even get of the runway without destroying themselves. But until there is an even hotter new premium I suspect they will remain bullshit

MANPADs like the Stingers have also been horrendously unreliable for the longest time in WT too, so that's also playing a factor into it.

Mi-28 heli has a similar damage model and its made to kill you even if u killed the enemy first.

Nh, Ozelot has been broken for years and they STILL haven't fixed it and don't seem like they intend to any time soon either.

it really isn't. While smaller with more missiles, it still struggles to hit anything far away. If it's close by, then having missiles and a gun would help a lot

@@DravianGrey most of the issues the Stingers have are blatant artificial garbage. Plus by now i doubt stingers have anything about them classified with how old and wide-spread they are (and effective) pretty much every nation can get them, its like the Glock of AAMs

Don't think it ever had any from what I can find Edit So there seems to exist timed fuses for the guns themselves however I can't find any information about them being used in the Gepard

@@gabrielneves6602 it has the ability to fire a sort of shrapnel shell that’s tied to the radar and will burst once it get in a certain range.

@@ArcticSnow930 It's similar to the Puma's AHEAD ammunition. Just like the Puma, it has those funky looking muzzle brakes to set the range your shells detonate which throws what are essentially really big birdshot into the enemy aircraft.

The Ozelot has been broken for years, and it going up against so many things with flares and having such a short range makes it best to just skip it, use Gepard or Begleitpanzer the vegleit is unironically best SPAA Germany has.

@@INSANESUICIDE wrong, bring both of em. While ozelot lacks of guns but they have 8 stingers thermals and small vehicle. And gepard 1a2 for some reason doesnt get thermals, only have 4 stingers and missing AHEAD ammo

@@TheArklyte the Gepard is missing the 3rd thicker rail that's necessary to program the fuse. The first 2 rails are for measuring the rounds velocity and relaying that to the FCS on the gepard

Definitely have noticed the same thing, even with the ostwind 2 i can shoot a plane numerous times without killing the pilot, even when seemingly hitting him directly

Stingers and Stinger-likes need severe buffs to Heli and Drone lock on range. They were almost specifically designed to be a menace to helicopters and yet by the time you can lock onto them the target is already being shredded by your teams roof MGs.

I couldn't lock on a helo rear side at 400m using MISTRAL, the first gen helo with a fully exposed engine...

To be fair, the su25 in real life is supposed to be more heavily armored than the a10, and there is evidence in Ukraine that it has been hit multiple times by manpads and still managed to land. However, that's not to say that the implementation in war thunder is at all realistic or fair.

@jasonculligan1718 yeah, I'm not denying that, but the fact that there were even a few reports of su25's coming back after getting smacked by manpads is a testament to it's durability as most other planes didn't have a single recorded instance of surviving a manpad hit (to be fair most plane weren't hit by manpads either). Nevertheless, it was in the conception of the su25 and a10 to be as resistant as possible while still remaining planes, that's not to say that they are flying tanks because they aren't, they are still fragile to any hit, I do very much agree that the war thunder modeling of the su25 is ridiculous. But it wouldn't be unrealistic if the su25 or the a10 might be able to tank a manpad hit from time to time depending on where the missile exploded around the plane, especially because the explosive mass is very small in manpad missiles. If it hits an engine, it'll take it out but as long as the flight controls aren't too damaged the plane will still fly.

And you honestly think gepard should be full BR higher than VEAK40 or 0.7 higher than M247, which both have couple Km longer range than gepard has.

@@kanelikainalo hence why I said it's closer, it should not be at 8.0 nor 9.7, it cannot be compared to the York as it has proxy fuse rounds yet no way to kill IFVs easily and MBTs. Whereas the base gepard has access to a sabo belt and a high fire rate which makes mince meat out of all light vehicles and most MBTs at its current BR. Look at the M163 which for a while was the same br

Gaijin artificially nerfed stingers in the game, so its kinda unfair.

@@tejoadi4349 well yea but you still fight basically the same vehicles. You can launch the Roland before the aircraft is in range and by the time they meet they have gotten in range. It’s really annoying to fight helicopters or drones because they usually survive a hit.
