I love how Lincoln used the repetitive technique in his persuasive, call to action speech to move the masses. The words "we", "cannot", even "that", and more, used in such a concise few words and in two minutes, is amazing. What a great speaker and speech writer the president was.

Oh my gosh, I don't think I've ever clicked on a video so fast. Ever since Mr. Renn told our class he would be doing this collaboration I've been waiting on pins and needles for it to come out. I'm so happy that he was able to have this amazing opportunity. Here's to Mr. Hughes for making this possible for him and Mr. Renn, who I can already tell is the greatest teacher I've ever had and will ever have.

Also, you have to remember that (1) Lincoln was speaking before a large crowd in the open air, NOT in an auditorium or some kind of public hall and (2) in 1863 there was NO kind of electrical public address system or amplification apparatus. In other words, you had to be pretty darn close up in front of the stage to actually hear one syllable of Lincoln's speech.

I'm in my sixties and like those much much younger, my "attention goes" where the information is bang bang. Two Minutes. 272 words. That might be the secret of the Gettysburg Address. Just imagine with a room full of speech writers and the constraint of two minutes, and something important to say . . . how good that speech would be. Increase the brevity, Keith, and John.
