“We’re not here to dedicate the cemetery, the cemetery is here to dedicate us.” Very well done.

Well, here's the thing about a President attending a US Soldier's funeral: he is his boss, and the employee of the citizens, so it is right and proper that it be kind of a circle in a sense. Anyone able to vote is old enough to be drafted, when you sign up to vote you also register for the draft if need be; so when he votes, he is determining who's going to be hired for the Chief Executive of these United States of America, but when he's in office, the soldiers are among his employees. It *would* be kind of weird, but it is not improper for him to speak at the dedication of the burial field in question.

So, what he was saying was, in essence, that the US Civil War really was a crusade in fact.

Yeah, some men may well have seen both, hey, there might've been some men there who'd remember the French and Indian War at that address, considering the length of time.

Abe Lincoln was more precise and more focused on the topic than Ed Everett; that's how come he is remembered, whereas Ed Everett is almost forgotten in terms of what they said. Also, Everett appears to have appealed to emotion, whereas Lincoln appealed to reason; and appealing to reason wins out over appealing to emotion every single time. Where it falls apart is if the other person appeals not to emotion but to conscience- that set of morals wins out over reason every single time, for reason divorced from conscience and morality is really worthless.
