This guy is so biased towards tigers and smilodon, he really thinks that a smilodon can beat a short-faced bear, the smilodon is my favorite prehistoric animal but it has no chance in hell at beating a short-faced bear, that beast is just way too big and powerful for any cat, the only prehistoric mammals at that time that can defeat a short-faced bear are mammoths, prehistoric rhinos, giant ground sloths, and neanderthals with spears. Yea I like this dude but the fact is he really biased with tigers..but that doesn't matter I think your taking Smilodon populator as a joke..first of all size really doesn't matter for oppenonets like Smilodon..They are also known as bison killer which are heavier than short face..Smilodon can surprise attack which even bear will take some time to react with the situation overall short face bear just have the size advantage bite force idk but Smilodon have sharper claws and long canines which can be easily fragile but still can be damage a bear and even kill it

@@DashBattles Bruh, I don't see smilodon populator as a joke, it's arguably the strongest cat to have ever lived, but a short-faced bear is just too big and powerful for even a smilodon populator to take down, yeah I see the smilodon killing the bear by ambush but I'm talking about a head on fight, in a head on fight a short-faced bear would clap a smilodon and that's a fact as much as I hate to admit it.

No other terrestrial predator that’s ever lived, outside of the predatory Theropod Dinosaurs, could take on a Giant Short Faced Bear. It was a 1.5 tonne Bear, near twice the size of a Polar Bear. Big a feline as Smilodon Populator was, weighing in at 450kg, this still makes it less than half the size of the Bear. Short Faced Bear wins.

It's not even a competition. The largest bears have always outdone the largest big cats when it came to size, stamina and raw strength. Even in the modern day, no big cat can match the strength of of the Kodiak Bear or the Polar Bear. Even a Grizzly is more than a match for any big cat.

Yes. I love tigers and felines, but in the real world bears can kill tigers simply because they're like double in size and weight, and bears stamina is not match. The most tigers fought in the wild was around 1 minute. Bear fights can go 10 to 15 minutes! And bears tolerance to pain! You shoot a charging bear and will keep coming at you. You shoot a tiger and will drop in pain.

@@AbassDosso-px7qc and you haven’t seen theleopards here in the northern Forrest of Canada. I’ve encountered the bears many times. 1200 pounds of mighty muscle. However, some male leopard here weigh as much as 1800 pounds, but the average is around 1000. For a more complete story on the Canadian leopard, why not contact the Canadian wildlife service, in Ottawa.

Size don’t matter, tigers are known for taking down animals 4 times their own size. It would be extremely difficult for the bear to counter a neck bite from an successful ambush attack.

Plus, this isn't merely a sized up 1,000-pound Bengal Tiger. This is a 1,000-pound cat with 8 inch long fangs and a far weaker bite force.

@@mekhilipsey8689 The Smilodon would still have to subdue the much larger predator first before being able to go for the killing strike. Something a lone Smilodon can't accomplish. As for the Tiger Vs Brown Bear comparison, it doesn't work. The Bears the Tigers fight aren't much heavier than them. No Tiger has ever beaten a 1,400+ pound Kodiak Brown Bear. And even then, it's still not a comparable size difference. Even a large Polar has only about 1,000 pounds over a Siberian Tiger. The Giant Short Faced Bear has 2,500 pounds over Smilodon Populator. Arctotherium could solo the American Mastodon. It would take 3 - 4 Smilodon to have a chance of bringing down the Mastodon. Arctotherium has no weak points besides its stomach area, a target that won't be available during an ambush.

WildCiencias, you should have done the South American short-faced bear, Arctotherium angustidens, versus the South American sabre-tooth cat, Smilodon populator. Both these South American species were much bigger than their North American counterparts. In actual fact, if one looks at the fossil record over a much longer period of time, you will see that SOUTH AMERICA WAS THE TRUE HOME OF GIANTS (think Giganonotosaurus, Arctotherium, Smilodon populator, etc). I'd be curious to know if Arctodus fossils showed signs of their encounters with other large predators. I have heard of an Arctodus found with mastodon fossils that was possibly stomped on and killed by them. I also have heard of Dire wolves and Smilodon showing healed up injuries from fights with conspecifics as well as competitors. I seriously would doubt that a big cat would target a giant bear as prey unless it was weakened or taken by complete surprise. If a bear like arctodus walked up to a carcass killed by other predators most would have fled possibly after a short skirmish like today's grizzlies and wolves, also size and numbers matter.

Short faced bears seem to be more built and pretty fast on land when it comes to hunting Old and young Mammoth calfs from the Stone age times, they may encountered Sabertooth cats on their territory when food is scarce and sometimes steal the meals of other predators🍗🍗.

@@mnkash2007 yes, bears kill tigers too, but only when they are defending themselves or their territory. sometimes a young tiger falls victim to a bear or a bear targets a small female or the cubs. like all predators, tigers also target young, old or sick specimens. in that scenario it is 50-50. a large brown bear normally avoids an adult male tiger. but if a fight does happen, it's usually the male Siberian tiger that wins.

The Giant Short-faced Bear is even larger than the largest modern Bears. Sabertooth Tigers on the other hand are slightly smaller than today's Siberian and Bengal Tigers. Siberian Tiger's fur are sometimes found on Polar Bears' poop in Siberia, indicating that it encountered and defeated the Tiger.

I love cats but I admit bears will easily kill felines. Bears have high stamina and tolerance to pain. The most tigers were seen fighting in the wild was around 1 minute. Bears on the other hand, was almost 20 minutes!

An xceptional vi😮deo & I can agree with the stats that Siberian tigers kill Ussuri brown bears on ocassion. HOWEVER, I strongly disagree with the Smilodon sabre-tooth cat doing the same trick with the Arctodus short-faced bear! Arctodus simus was bigger, whilst being much more rangy & more agile than the Russian brown bear. It doesn’t matter that Smilodon fatalis (or Smilodon populator) were bigger & more sturdily built than Siberian/Indian tigers - the North American Arctodus simus would have still triumphed. There is a strong school of thought that Arctodus was soo tall & rangy so as to intimidate & scare off smaller predators (such as Smilodon) from its kills (thereby allowing the bear to feed).

The saber tooth looks kinda odd. Those huge canines would have been very formidable with a huge lower very muscular jaw. Obviously not the case. So those canines would have had to have been used for stabbing rather than biting. A disadvantage and it looks like they would have been useless for eating as they would have gotten in the way. The fact that it survived so long is a mystery.

If this bear wrestled like today's bears, the bear would literally break the bones of the cat. No contest. Those stabbing teeth of the cat would not only be a hinderance in a confrontation, but were not very strong and evidence shows that those long canines broke at times. Also, all the evidence points to these bears being faster than modern day bears; in fact, probably the fastest bears in history. Their paw structure was not inward facing as modern bears when moving, but forward facing. I like these videos, but this one missed the mark.

@@Darth_Malgus4627 No, you didn't read what I wrote. I said the evidence shows that those canines broke at times, not always. Yes, they could pierce some skulls. And yes, sometimes they didn't and broke. That is just a fact seen time and time again buy the professionals who study ancient animals. There is a reason why big cats today don't have those giant canines--they are simply not as efficient or prone to damage as shorter, stouter canines.

you are both half right. Smilodons Sabre teeth absolutely could pierce animals skulls any they were strong against vertical pressure. In plainer terms up and down pressure. The teeth however were weak against horizontal or side to side pressure. Smilodon had to pin, overpower, or in some way nullify the prey before biting. If it didn't and the animal suddenly lunged forward in a last ditch effort to get away, that alone could snap the Sabre teeth
