I've always said that Gamboa didn't have a glass jaw, it was just that he always had a big reach disadvantage so was more likely to get caught because of that, and I'm glad someone has brought that up.

I wanted to see how Floyd handled a fast, busy, combination puncher (not counting a past-prime Manny). What's up, Hancho! Excellent video like always! I'd like to give a diehard fan perspective on the whole Lopez vs Gamboa fight, as well as Miguel Cotto. Being someone who grew up in Puerto Rico and then took major interest in Boxing around 12 years old, it was during Juanma's / Cotto's peak. My friends, family and I always gathered to watch those 2 fight, and man were they electric! It was even more intense, due to the fact that BOTH those guys had shaky chins (Juanma having more of a glass chin than Cotto), and excellent punching power. I remember constantly waiting for the promoters to announce the fight between Juanma and Gamboa, but that day never came... It was definitely the fight to make, and I promise you that it was going to be fireworks. I am 100% sure that Gamboa would've won by KO; the overwhelming speed and power of Gamboa would've caught Juanma by surprise. I remember vividly seeing that Gamboa vs Mtagwa fight in the living room of my friends parent's house, and all of us kind of looked at each other feeling worried that Juanma was going to have to fight him someday. I'm still very disappointed that it never happened. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE knew that Cotto had a fairly shaky chin. We always worried whenever he would fight a big puncher due to his chin; so worried that a lot of us would get legitimately nervous and start busting a sweat or a light shake. 'Til this day, I have yet to feel that emotion like I did with Cotto back in his fighting days. Good times, growing up in PR, being raised on Puerto Rican boxing lore, and even taking up boxing over there myself because of that. Thanks for reading!

@BiggieTrismegistus2 ай бұрын
Now that the UFC is clearly the best and biggest MMA organization it's rare to be denied a great matchup. Back when MMA started you had the UFC and Pancrase in Japan then Pride took Pancrase's place. Bas Rutten spent almost his entire career fighting for Pancrase and only had two fights in the UFC. In his last he won the heavyweight title over Kevin Randleman but unfortunately years of fighting had taken their toll and her never fought again. Pride meant we didn't get a fight like Fedor Emilianenko versus Randy Couture and didn't see Chuck Liddell versus Wanderlei Silva or Big Nog fight Frank Mir until one or both of the guys were on the downside of their careers.

What about guys like Tommy Hearns and Marquez? For JMM, his legs never completely left him so maybe he wouldn't fall under the shaky chin category but Tommy had a lot of fights where his legs were gone after a dramatic punch. People say that his "6'1" (potentially "6'2") frame was too thin to carry 147 lbs. but he went up to 154 lbs., Middleweight, and Super Middleweight where he had similar moments. Could it. be bc of his lack of conditioning? idk if strength & conditioning coaches were popular in the 70s and 80s but that would surprise me if it was bc of his conditioning since he was trained by the legendary Emmanuel Steward.
