We're heading off to Katsumoto Kanda so we can introduce you to the world of Tsukemen, also known as Tsukesoba, which you might know as dipping ramen. We're showing you two different kinds of noodles as well, so hopefully when you come to Japan you can give Tsukemen a shot!
Thank you to Katsumoto Kanda for sponsoring this video and for letting us shoot in their restaurant. Ramen shops are usually very tight and busy, so to be able to move around and shoot this much is really lucky for us.

The reason why I love your videos is because you introduced not -stereotypical to foreign audiences but authentic or popular Japanese foods among Japanese people. Whenever I see you upload videos, I am really impressed how attentive to the food culture here your choices are. i am sure that thanks to your videos, many people who visit Japan can choose not touristy foods. Your.videos engourage them to eat at restaurants without English menu instead of touristy restaurants and enjoy foods here. Even I ,a domestic audience, learned good restaurants I did not know by your videos and visitted a few of them.

Dan S. Agree! It just becomes so personal, food with a soul and heart, to see how the chef and staff puts all the effort in a good dish is amazing. Plus, I won't be able to chat with people in japanese if I visit Japan and I would miss much because if that, but with videos like these I can understand a little bit more. Now I want to visit the restaurant, soo delicious looking and soo friendly, like I would feel they are really happy to have me as a customer, soo lovely X3

Eggs no will longer satisfy me, only ramen.... but there is no ramen.... T-T lol Also the look of dismay on Simon's face when Martina said she doesn't listen to what he says was hilarious. Honestly tsukemen is my favorite type of ramen. I usually add a bit of vinegar into the broth, which helps digestion and adds to the flavor. Also tsukemen is the only type of ramen that I can eat while reading, because the ramen won't get soggy over time. I love it soooo much!

Old subscriber but new commenter! I feel weirdly proud every time I've see you guys do a real noodle slurp. I've come to the US from South Korea for university and I always feel a bit sad when I go for ramen with friends and I'm the only one slurping. A bit of my soul dies. I love seeing the two of you slurping together, its weirdly restorative? Also all this food porn somehow satisfies but also intensifies my home food/asian food cravings and homesickness. I'm gonna try and make ramen complete with the chashu and marinated egg this coming weekend. ALSO the dream that Simon had is legitimately terrifying, I got flashbacks to nightmares I got after watching the Killing Fields in middle school. I'm a dual US and South Korean citizen, and we were in the middle of a war and foreign citizens were being helicoptered out like in the passport forgery scene and I was desperately trying to convince the authorities to bring my whole family with me.

What's interesting was that when _tsukemen_ was invented in the late 1950's, it was actually a derivative of eating cold soba or udon moodles dipped in a soy-derived sauce, a very common practice in Japan during the summer months.

Also I like eating on my time, exactly whenever the hell the whole thing strikes me, I’ve always had problems with putting on weight and so it’s a spontaneous act for me sometimes. Texture and temperature mean a lot to me with taste too and so when something is made either I don’t want to eat it yet or it becomes too cold or the texture changes weirdly from me not eating it at the correct time for consumption. Heating up the broth separately or having a stove at the eating area makes too much sense for how I eat altogether. I could eat whenever I wanted and the texture would be perfect. No more soggy noodles! I agree with you girl. 100%. Let’s go get some dip Ramen and fuck around.
@SophieJackson1993
@SophieJackson1993 3 жыл бұрын
Plus you’re not getting the same amount of salt absorbing into your blood stream & liquid from the broth being sucked in from the excess salt into the noodles and that’s probably why you’re feeling less bloated and heavy when it sits and marinates, soaking up all that valuable water.

I've been watching your videos since 2011, back when I was in highschool and just started watching K-Dramas. Your videos about Korea gradually made me more interesting in the nation to the point now where I'm going abroad to study at a Korean University. Just wanted to let you know, you influenced me in a positive way and I'm grateful for it. I know you're in Japan now but since this is your most recent video I wanted to leave this post here. Thanks for everything! Leaving soon for Korea and I'm excited! \o/

please make a video about HALAL food/resto in Japan and comparing it with the NONHALAL that you've eat before. Is it as delicious or something's missing or maybe it taste better 😉😊 待ってます!!!

glam dewi There's a certain quality to pork that gives tonkotsu/pork broths and pork-based meals in general. That makes all other dishes that try to imitate it inferior. You can't compare halal vs non-halal food because they're very different imo. They each have their own qualities. Have you looked into The Food Ranger channel? He goes around China in most of his videos, and he shows us some of the halal dishes there and it's amazing, but very different from non-halal foods.

AeJylhis I see, thanks for your info and thought. Well, I wont expect a tonkotsu ramen dupes or compairing tonkotsu base soup with something that tries to imitate it. Just wanna know what they think about the taste of Halal dishes in Japan. Because as moslems we cannot eat it to compair or have both side of taste 😉 Will certainly check the food ranger channel after this 😉😊

Dare I say it, that would be a bit... impossible 😂 the thing about 'halal food' is that it's basically the exact same thing as its non-halal counterpart (eg. With beef or chicken or whatever you'd never know whether it was halal meat or not unless someone told you). Of course certain foods like pork and alcohol-including dishes can never be halal because they're forbidden foods to muslims, barring certain special circumstances. Perhaps you meant it'd be cool to check out versions of popular pork dishes that use something else so that it would be accessible to muslims and anyone who didn't eat pork/drink alcohol? :) I've seen quite a few videos of things I can eat on here (and even vegan/vegetarian friendly dishes!) - I'd never say no to more of those! Simon and Martina make the most gorgeous videos!!

You sure it wasn't an allergic reaction? They can make it hard to breathe, so in that sense it could feel similar...

Ramen (of those that includes chuka-soba and tsukemen ) are known for huge sodium containing bowl in Japan. There’s been also an old news that a ramen blogger had died because of taking much salt on his food reports. Yes ramens are good but those are not “must to try” for anytime of the day if you feel hard on having them.
