This is why I like Doug. He will spend 25 minutes with a truly off the radar vehicle for us weirdos that geek out over the odd and forgotten cars.

The styling was actually striking for the era. Seems mild now, but this vehicle stood out back in the day.

I noticed one of these older guys in the In-N-Out line had a gorgeous green typhoon that you could tell was his pride and joy - I told him that I loved it and I could tell it made his day. To 99% of people it looks like a completely normal 90s SUV so he probably doesn't get a lot of looks from other folks

Still wondering what it would take to get a perfect 100 “Doug Score”…. Being something that is the size of an RV interior, performance of a hypercar (0-60 under 2 seconds), quality of a Bentley, has the interior of a Rolls Royce, and has the looks that would be timeless and elegant…. Alas, a vehicle like that is mythical and would never be able to be built…

Fun fact: the instrument cluster was taken from the Pontiac Sunbird GT as at the time it was the only GM vehicle using a turbo. It was cheaper for GM to fit it to the Typhoon/Syclone then to create new clusters.

I remember being in high school wanting a typhoon so bad. Later I got a 94 S10 Blazer, a S10 pickup and even a Suburban. I loved that boxy look!

Only OGs remember the original video on the GMC Typhoon😂 The settings of these review videos are more interesting than the cars themselves sometimes; I remember when Doug reviewed the F40 in a crack dealer’s corner, now he’s in offbrand Hollywood

Doug to the Typhoon’s powertrain: fast even by modern standards. Also Doug: this truck is not fast compared to modern standards.

It’s mind blowing to me that this truck to my 16 year old daughter is the age equivalent of the 63 nova I had in high school in the 90’s and that car seemed like an ancient artifact to me. Time is weird

The Typhoon/Syclone didn't need a lot of badging or visual cues. You either knew what it was, or you quickly found out...

There was one other special part in the interior of the Typhoon besides the small badge on the dasbhoard... the C4 Corvette shifter! I can't believe that you missed that quirk.

Real OGs remember the original GMC Typhoon video and remember how disappointingly short it was

Separate ignition and door keys meant you could idle the engine and lock the vehicle. A throw back to needing to warm a carburetor before being able to drive the car.

I like typhoons but this one is tired. It has low mileage, great, but the headliner is sagging, the tailgate is dented, the paint is really tired. You can tell it sat outside for years… I kinda feel bad for whoever buys it. There are better examples out there even with double the miles…

The guy that worked on my 1970 Ford Maverick bought a black one of these new. With all the cash I paid him to fix the Maverick in the early 90s, I’m sure he had no problem affording the Typhoon.

The 4.3L motor that was in a lot of GM trucks was torque machine and virtually bulletproof. I remember these being unicorns as well.

My dad had one of these when I was a kid. Brings back lots of memories and a total nostalgic blast!

One of my friends had a Cyclone back in the day. For it's time it was crazy fast and with the AWD a rocket out of the hole. My foxbody GT Mustang couldn't keep with it. Good times.

Not going to lie that Ty looks rough for the mileage, missing sticker on one side, After market sunroof. Black painted cladding over the stock red. Headliner sagging. Had a SYCLONE #2659 92 Typhoon teal/grey #0641 And red on red 93 typhoon they are fun, but their natural habitat is jack stands 🤷‍♂️

I owned a 93 Typhoon in green. Loved it and wish I kept it. I enjoyed how it got quiet when under hard acceleration. It was very comfortable, had a perfect step-in height, and almost no bolstering in the seats so you hung on to the steering wheel for dear life when cornering. I miss it!

I had a ‘92 Sonoma in highschool, and that light switch brought back some memories. If I remember correctly, it had a weird buzzer if you left the lights on with the key out.

Doug, the cup “holders” on the glovebox door are actually something GM had offered going back as far as I remember. Our ‘71 Buick had them, although the door on that was all steel, so the indents were very shallow. Obviously they were meant to be used only when parked, such as when you were at the drive-in (before there were drive-thrus).

These cars, like the Syclone, really shine from a standstill to the 1/4 mile.

The two door models were indeed the "sporty" units. The two door Exporer was deemed the Sport. I owned two of them and the 0-60 was measured in the geological time scale.

I remember reading in a car magazine that GM had the capacity to produce many more in the following years but demand was not strong. It did not help that these had a premium price brand new.

I drove both the Typhoon and the Syclone when they came out. The engine was so torquey that the truck felt like it was picking itself up and throwing itself forward.

My folks had an old Safari they bought new in 1994. I really miss that thing. I learned to drive with it. This video brings back a ton of memories with how that 4.3 sounded and how the interior is laid out.

I loved the Typhoon when I was a kid and bought the Trailblazer SS because of it. I'd love to see you review a Trailblazer SS AWD in the future and hear your thoughts on it vs the Typhoon.

The fog light switch and the mirror adjust switch were available on other variations of the S10 Blazer but they were definitely afterthought additions to the interior. One thing that might not be a quirk but just interesting, if you have the rear glass open, you don't need the key to open the rear tailgate. Also should mention that if you leave the headlights/parking lights on, it beeps at you to let you know. And I think most people just use the left side to both push and pull for on an off. Didn't even mention the CD player! That was a big deal at the time too.

My dad’s owned three GMC Jimmy’s over the years. Always loved these things. I’m happy to see Doug reviewing one!

Another cool trick about the tailgate: If you have anything on the roof, you can drop the tailgate and then close the glass and use the tailgate as a platform to stand on.

I remember seeing this during the debut year at the Houston Auto Show. It was groundbreaking. Even as a 13 year old, I knew it was awesome!

To experience the Typhoon/Syclone properly, you *must* power brake it and launch from a dig. That's the real rush.

Doug, I love that u reviewed this Typhoon ❤ My first car was a 1987 chevy s10 blazer. The Typhoon was my dream car wished I could one day be able 2 buy one until I discovered the GNX, none the less the Nostalgia is priceless. I think someone in Palos Verdes owns one identical to this one because I see it often on the 110 in the early mornings on my way to work 😅

My 1993 Pontiac Bonneville had a foglight switch just like that GMC. It was on the roof, by the map lights. Didn't know the car had foglights for two years of ownership, and didn't know where the switch was for another year after I saw it had them.

I'm 16 and I want this so bad... All my friends are talking about how they want a mustang so bad and they can't comprehend why anyone would want a vehicle like this.

I nearly bought a Syclone 5 years ago at rock bottom prices. I so wish that I had given the market now and how I STILL want one!!

Doug needs to review the OG International Scouts. I don’t think anyone has a review on them in depth. It would be awesome lore for all of those off-roaders out there.

The window switches were because the driver window was "auto" down/up and the passenger one was strictly up or down as long as you held the button. That was a new feature and the switch was made different to allow for the auto feature.

The cup "holders" on the glove box cover was actually pretty common in vehicles all the way back to the 60s. I think it was done more to let the owner know that it was designed to hold things so you could actually place something there without concern of it breaking or collapsing.

Usually the separate keys were the door / ignition key, the fuel key, and then the trunk or storage key. That's if thye actually had 3 keys, most cars at the time didn't have a locking fuel cap.

Doesn’t seem that long ago but it is and I feel much older! Endless enthusiasm emanating from Doug as usual, usual? I wish I felt like that every day!!!

The three keys are not factory. GM only issues this with the door and ignition keys. The fuel door is aftermarket. No GM car had a locking cap from the factory in the 90s.

In the period, the Typhoon looked amazing and seemed super fast. My friend had one. Loved it!

having had a 1994 Oldsmobile Bravada Premium, this is probably as close as I'll get to a review of that same car. Came with a handful of the same little quirks including the shelf and man it is nice to watch this review.

Hi Doug! Your videos are always the most entertaining and accurate on youtube, congratulations. As a suggestion you should describe the Peugeot Landtrek. Just as the Suzuki Jimny is not available for the North American market, neither is the Peugeot Landtrek, but here in Mexico it is. Greetings and blessings. ;)

Dollars to doughnuts, those non-faded switches and especially the oddball for the passengers window are aftermarket replacements for the original ones that failed at some point in the last 30 years.

My dad had an 88 2-door S10 Blazer when I was a kid, with most of the same interior as this truck. I definitely remember clearly every single thing Doug mentioned, except it had different gauges. Spent many, many hours in that back seat on family road trips, with those arm rests and “saddle bag” pouches. And of course being the 1980’s, my brother and I would fold the rear seat down while we were driving along so we could play in the back. We were super safe back then. 😂😂

I'm feeling the Typhoon review...what an icon!! Those were so rare back in my day...I had a black Fox Body Mustang Cobra with a manual shift with tons of work done to it and those Typhoons/Cyclones were not easy to beat. If my Mustang was factory stock I would have seen the Typhoons tail lights in a 1/4 mile run!!

A lot of people with a crazy amount of different vehicles went out of their way to disguise or hide the performance of their vehicle; these vehicles were known as sleepers. No one should complain when the sleeper comes directly from the factory.

it's amazing to me how thr Syclone only has 280 horsepower and still goes faster 0 to 60 than the ram trx which has 700 horsepower

Great review as always Mr. DeMuro, I love these SUVs from the early 90s and I would love you to review a 1st-gen Explorer Sport, not very special or exciting model for the north americans but for me and our latin american brothers it was a very robust and thrilling vehicle for our market in that era. A buddy bought a Syclone right when they came out and I have to say that had the strongest take off of any vehicle Ive ever been in. From 20-30mph flooring it, it would pound your head into the headrest at the down shift EVERY TIME. It made no matter that you knew it was coming.

Hey Doug! At 13:00, are those the nonexistent cup holders you spoke of?

I don't know if anyone would consider this an early performance SUV, but a friend of mine's father worked for GM in the 1970's and he special ordered (using non-public option codes) a 1978 K5 Blazer with a rare L82 high performance 1978 Corvette 350 small block (right from GM "stock"). It was ordered with a "sporty looking" 2-tone blue and white paint job, an NP203 full time 4wd system, optional extra-wide off road 10.5" x 31" tires (in the day, 10.5" x 31" tires were considered big), a "heavy duty" TH350 transmission, an oversized radiator from a K30, an oversized transmission cooler, and several other high performance goodies. Back in the day if we lined up besides K5's with 400's or even similar year pickup trucks with 400's or 454's, that Blazer always blew their doors off. It was the fastest stock full size GM truck I knew of until well into the 1990's. Do any of you know of any more L82's that made it into Blazer's or other Chevrolet vehicles, stock? My understanding is that, at the time, if you knew the option codes you could get the L82 in a number of different vehicles. Although the Blazer is long gone, I've still got the removable rear seat and the L82 engine, complete with it's large 2.02"/1.60" valve heads. The L82 is now installed in my custom K20/K30 square body long box pickup truck.

I will never forget the sound of all the plastic creaking inside of my buddies highly modified GMC typhoon as he held the brake pedal and the throttle pedal down simultaneously, the oversized turbo spooled the boost up as it was preparing to launch and and when he took his foot off the break that all wheel drive turbo shot like a rocket. But every time he did this I couldn’t help imagine the wear and tear that drivetrain was being subjected to.
