@@jonathancarter6231 in almost all cases the organ transplant matching process is done by computer algorithm, you are correct. There are very, very rare circumstances where a patient suddenly cannot accept the intended organ and there isn't time to reallocate through the national system (because the organ will no longer be viable in the time that takes), and a transplant hospital may be able to transplant the organ to a different patient within their hospital. It's one of those moral dilemmas. Like do you save 3 family members or 7 strangers, or switch the train tracks. The potential of what that money can be used for, the amount of people it could help vs the guilt for choosing one over another.

@J B I completely agree, but i’d still chose 3loved ones over 7strangers that might potentially add something valuable to the world. I still wouldn’t think about it. But 25 Million? That could help more people in the long run. In the USA it would be going to the rich.
@lukefarrugia84322 жыл бұрын
@@vincem2759 What if the guy that didn't have 25m backing him would have gone on to cure cancer? Or heck, even just create a school for impoverished kids. Money shouldn't ever be the deciding factor in whether you should save someone, or who you should save more. That's entirely the issue with this world isn't it? We aren't treated equal, we are treated by the worth of our pockets. The other issue is...money saved the rich guy...so what's to say that same decision won't be used when deciding how to spend the 25 million. Funding specific types of treatment that are skewed to people that can buy their way in. And so the cycle continues and the people that do deserve the services are disregarded for those that can pay more for them. The right to medical care shouldn't be decided on by the depth of your pockets. Just as education shouldn't. That said..I'm not running a hospital and responsible for balancing the books with limited government funding so who knows what decision I'd make if I was in the situation of being responsible for something more than my moral choice.
@princezzpuffypants62872 жыл бұрын
In actual practice, the only deciding factor is who is most eligible physically - at least in the US. I cannot speak for the rest of the world, but I imagine the protocol is similar. ... but this is a movie and it is meant to be a philosophic exploration of morality, obligation, duty, etc...

As a heart/double lung transplant recipient this really makes me angry. You can't buy organs. This makes people feel like if they donate their organs they might not go to those most in need and then people choose not to donate. I'm tired of folks creating drama around organs and tissue donation. We don't have enough donors as it is!
@schisandra3 жыл бұрын
I think organ donation should be opt out instead of opt in. Everyone should be an organ donor (and a registered voter!) by default.
@vysharra3 жыл бұрын
There are questions about why tens or hundreds of thousands change hands but donors don’t receive recompense in any form, not in the ability to choose the circumstances of their donation nor funeral/medical costs. I’m not taking a stance here, but no system is perfect so I also can’t say the system we have in the US is something outside of criticism.
@qtpiefuuurrrever3 жыл бұрын
@@schisandra no because then you will have people trying to kill you off to get your organs to their family member faster. Fatal Organ donations are horrible and open up to so much black market crime . Everybody dies and i know that’s horrible to say but its true. Nobody should they have to end their life to save a life of a dying stranger who may or may not be a good person. If it’s something like a kidney then fine but the heart is just crazy.
@iamknife73 жыл бұрын
@@qtpiefuuurrrever That makes no sense. People can't choose where the organs go and their is already a black market surrounding organ donation because of the lack of donors. I'm sure the other person's solution has downsides but the black market thing is already a problem.
