I have split my digitalization up into three parts, as copyright issues would occur if I uploaded the Original Soundtrack segment, which is merely an audio remaster of Nino Rota's previously released 1972 score. Since tracks 15 and 18 are the exact versions featured on just that, I had to cut them from this video and instead linked to Sicilian Pastorale and Apollonia's official upload as provided by KZfaq. In fact, I created a sorted playlist for you of the Original Soundtrack, to link to in it's place. Please disregard what the content ID system recognizes as this song or that melody, the autogenerated software under the video is wrong.
The Disc 1 segments Score Presentation and Additional Music very obviously are from the same recording sessions as the tracks that ended up on the 1972 OST. This just is unused material composed by Nino Rota and conducted by Carlo Savina. The re-issue finally contains almost all of the iconic music heard in the movie that was never released on the soundtrack, alternate versions of the pieces on the official soundtrack, as well as music written and/or recorded for the movie that was not used at all in either the 1972 2.9 hour theatrical release 'The Godfather', the over 9.5 hour unreleased and lost cut 'The Godfather Saga' created for the NBC prior to 1977, the actually resulting 1977 7.2 hour TV airing 'The Godfather: The Complete Novel For Television' or it's many shorther derivatives as various subsequent VHS releases, streaming platforms or TV specials. Read about these at The Godfather Museum: godfathermuseum.blogspot.com/2...
Examples: Hollywood was supposed to play as Tom Hagen meets Jack Woltz in L.A., but got replaced after the producers demanded such. Leading to Carmine Coppola conducting Tommy Dorsey's Manhattan Serenade. The former remained entirely unheard, the latter just unreleased. The Pickup was supposed to play as Michael Corleone stood outside of Jack Dempsey's, waiting for Sollozzo to pick him up for Louis Restaurant. It got swapped out for a The Halls Of Fear snippet, but still released on the OST. The version of The Halls Of Fear appearing on the OST is completely different from the film version. Rota's Christmas themed music was replaced by Al Martino singing Coppola's arrangement of Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas. The list goes on.
This is a limited 5000 physical copy CD release, with rights granted to La-LaLand Records by Paramount and Capitol and Francis Ford Coppola's explicit blessings. It was quietly listed on their website in November 2022, with no advertizing whatsoever. Many fans will be missing out on it. While both The Godfather and The Godfather Part II were re-released in a 4K restoration for the first movie's 50th anniversary in February 2022, the soundtrack released in November only contains the music of the former. Hopefully Part II's soundtrack will also be re-released and expanded, soon.
Unfortunately, neither La-LaLand, nor Paramount have replied to my . The CD booklet also makes no mention of the musicians included or the time period, other than The Hollywood Studio Symphony having recorded the entirety of it. Caution: This Hollywood Studio Symphony is NOT The Hollywood Studio Orchestra, which has recorded a rather dreadful trilogy compilation in 2003 with no official affiliation.

If Godfather 2's soundtrack is re-released (and hopefully expanded upon), can you please upload it here. You're the goat. Can finally listen to Clemenza kissing Michael's ring and so much more.

I will try, though we need to be patient. It would take some months after release, for sure. Needs to be shipped to me first, then I digitize the CD, edit the video and analyze the versions…

I was, in fact, gifted this myself. Shipping overseas, fees and taxes would have been pretty brutal for me, too. You are most welcome. Enjoy!

@@donaldduck7461 a very powerful deleted scene. That flute was recorded by Carmine Coppola behind the scenes! Without remembering the names… There are photos in some books of this, him teaching the little boy who portrayed him how to move the fingers to make it look more convincing.

@@Apollonia93 I don’t consider it a deleted scene. Purchased the 1901-1958 edition on vhs a number of years ago & consider it to be the best way of telling the story in chronological order.

@@donaldduck7461 I have The Complete Epic and also a copy of the NBC broadcast The Complete Novel For Television (what was supposed to become The Godfather Saga before they censored it for TV and cut it down to 7 hours from 9 1/2). Also The Godfather Trilogy VHS. But they are all incomplete in one way or another. I think the chronological order would be much stronger if they didn’t cut so much out of young Don Vito’s rise… De Niro gained around 15kg for the lost New York scenes, if I recall correctly, and blew up at Coppola after seeing the theatrical cut that removed that entire time period. You can see a photo of it on the cover of Peter Biskind’s book The Godfather Companion. It is really remarkable how similar he looks to Brando’s Vito there. I also find that Michael’s arc in Part II is not so strong for the same reasons. They cut out him going into politics and taking over Roth’s estate, as well as an adult Anthony rejecting working for him. All ideas they ultimately incorproated into Part III… Having seen every version, I feel that it becomes much more impactful when told in tandem between the two Dons - Though I hate how much has been removed! The pacing is brilliant, too.

I have transcribed, transposed and also arranged the vast majority of it for private projects. I was able to take a brief look at Nino Rota’s notes (but not Carmine Coppola’s) after his estate allowed a book author to do so for research. I believe the name was Franco Sciannameo. I cannot guarantee you that I will be able to to help, but I can surely try.

@@Apollonia93 Well ..... I read the book, with the chapter dedicated to Godfather music. In it Carmine Coppola writes things that I didn't know. It's shocking how many misinformation there are about this movie.... how many people misunderstood it. Coppola himself noted that. OK so.... Coppola explained how Francis used music to tell stories, fill in the gaps, communicate with the audience.... sometimes only few notes for particular scene. He also mentioned his wife, Italia I believe was her name who participated in writing the music.... For example Michael and Kay are sitting at the table . It's Connie's wedding. Johnny Fontana walks in. He begins to sing... ---- I got but one heart-- Michael takes Kay's hand and says " Listen to a song " Song continues--- You are the only dream I pray it comes true--- Michael turns around, looks at Kay with the smile and begins telling story about manager. Michael and Kay are walking down the street. They were in cinema. Song Bells of St. Mary's is playing. It's a song about two young loves, true loves who will be reunited when leaves are falling ( meaning in autumn). " Authum " is a song that I didn't know even existed. But apparently it does... who wrote it I don't know. It plays when you see Kay with kids in New England. It fits the story even more perfectly, given the fact that she is a school teacher. And school year begins in autumn. " Michael's theme " is playing when they are walking down the street, talking about corruption and him working for his dad. When Michael starts declaring love for her, song " The new Godfather " begins to play .....Again interesting because Michael calls Kay his Don in the book " You are my Don"... How am I doing so far?

@@dc6461 Yes and the thing to keep in mind is that Nino wrote most of the score. He used only a few central themes and re-worked them to mix bits of them into other themes and score cues. The Love Theme, The Godfather Waltz and The New Godfather (originally called Michael’s Theme) are great examples of this. Their melodies become part of so much of the music heard in the trilogy. Carmine supplied his own compositions (The Godfather Tarantella/Mazurka/Foxtrot, Ev’ry Time I Look In Your Eyes, This Loneliness, Mazurka Ala Siciliana, Lucky) and his arrangements of other people’s songs (Manhattan Seranade, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, Luna Mezz’o Mare, Senza Mamma, Napule Ve Salute, Mi Votu E Mi Rivotu). He had a gigantic role behind the scenes. I don’t know if Johnny Fontane’s I Have But One Heart was arranged by Carmine or by Carlo Savina, though. He played an even bigger role on Part II’s soundtrack and then entirely was in charge of Part III’s score with help from his brother, Anton (The Cavalleria Rusticana segments). But even on Part III, he still mostly re-used Nino’s themes. Carmine’s wife Italia is why they included the Francesco Pennino songs in Part II. He was Italia’s father and Francis’ grandfather.

@@Apollonia93 OK.... thank you. Please I wannna know this. I didn't know what role music played. I watched the movie multiple times and now that i know this fact, I see it and understand it in a different way. It's like it's a hole new movie. And may I say ..... it's as if composers were the REAL artists of the trilogy. Excuse me for saying that..... May I ask more questions?

@@dc6461 Sure, go on. And I fully agree with you, the music really made the movie. Was it the 50th anniversary edition of Puzo’s book you read Carmine’s explanations in? I knew it had a foreword by Francis, but I just have an old, regular copy.
