The persona we judge her for was for the movies only; IRL she was quiet and contemplative with simple tastes, and even her former husband Arthur Miller said she read as many books as he did, that she was anything but vapid. I think it’s because the homemaker sort of does depend on a good husband to mother. The husband has to have the same goal of parenting and being a good husband and father, which society no longer champions in men. It’s not exactly a balanced approach since society really doesn’t get that keeping a home, being a wife and managing a child is a lot of work. Especially since the women that do this seldom have less than two kids, they usually have more. It also makes it really difficult depending on the industry for a man to take time off to recover and rest or most men seldom do more than just work. Trust me I grew up in this system. Most housewives end up extremely unhappy as more often than not, the husband eventually gets bored and wants a different vibe. The housewives end up in trouble since they don’t have career experience or connections since they put all their eggs in one basket.
