I learned today in school that there is no standardized EQ parameters that will work on everything 100% of the time. Removing 160 Hz could potentially create low end separation, however it could also remove warmth and thin a sound out. So the correct answer should be to listen first before doing this.

@@lordberlygreat question actually! Your mind is in the right place. I’m thinking this is applicable for drum buss as well as master buss. Proven on some cases, what i found sad is that someone rework on some tracks just because someone known one youtube tell you to do THAT EQ trick on every mastering. The process on its own is bullshit because mastering isn't a copy/paste process
@stelthtenau
@stelthtenau 3 жыл бұрын
@@pierreguignery8826 i understand where you are coming from. I get angry/annoyed with people perpetuating "rules" they dont understand but in this case it really works. This frequency range often gets cluttered on a full mix. Its also not a very audible or nice sounding frequency range. So on the mix bus or at the mastering stage trying this technique will 9 out of 10 times make a noticeable difference to the perceived clarity and volume of the entire track. If it doesn't then by all means dont do it. Streaky made this video incredibly short because thats what most people want, his voice even cuts at the end of the video. Hes a good guy bud. Peace

Amazing tip again Streaky! 😊Yeah, it's working all the time, but the frequency depends on the key of the track (between 130-170 Hz) sweeping the EQ, and find the sweet spot. Also around 400 Hz, 700-800, and above 6000Hz, is the problematic areas on most mixes.

Allow me to introduce a new unit of measurement for sound volume, which I call vovol* (abbreviated: volume voltage). THIS IS HOW IT WORKS: You use two pre-stages, one with positive volume values, and the other negative. For example, so has the pre-step with positive values a measurement from +0 decibels up to +20, while the one with negative values, has from -0 decibels down to -20 decibels. The highest voltage occurs when the value is +20 and -20 decibels (or: 20 vovol), while there is low voltage, when the value is on +0 and -0 decibels (or: 0 vovol). You can possibly also combine two different values with each other, by adjusting the value to +10 -20 vovol, which gives a crisper effect. Have experimented with this myself at work and at home. The adjustment can of course be set to taste, but the purpose of vovol for me is to equalize the sound volume, so that you better hear weak sounds and at the same time avoid high deafening sound levels (loudness war's). Thank you for reading this! Take care of your hearing... :-) Awesome video anyway!

@@elzycollins In the mixing stage you "adjust" the low end of individual parts such as kick drum and bass so they "work together" (for example), so you use eq settings "ignoring" that "golden eq setting" like you don't know it and you tweak eq's so low end works in the mix. If you do that thing in the mix already it's like you're putting paint on the car when the car is still just chasy and the motor and you're adjusting the motor of the car. :)) If your mix has combined elements like "low end" (already mixed together) and you're adjusting the levels, than yes; but even than I wouldn't do that. Leave it for the last stage; you see you're mix in a different perspective when it's only two track mix and you work on it. You have less options and it focuses your mind and creativity and you see (hear) things you didn't hear before when all the heavy duty weapons come in like eq, compression, saturation, widening etc.
