Once known as one of the world's drug hotspots, the Golden Triangle today survives on tourism. Most visitors see only the Thailand side but Laos and Myanmar have both developed attractions on their sides.
Phu Chi Fa is a recent attraction to the east which has gained exposure in recent years. The view from the Thai mountains across Laos as the sun rises has become iconic on social media and this is drawing ever larger crowds to this area.
Both areas are best accessed from Chiang Rai. Rent a car or take a tour. You will not regret the experience.
