my aunt saw me watching stranger things and she watched goldfinch with me, she didn't know finn was in stranger things so she just blurted out "Boris is in this?!"

I haven't read the book, but that made the twists better. I've seen the movie 3 times. The movie poster should be better. What really happened to Andy and Mr Barbour? Did Platt murder them? I didn't realize that Boris went to work for the man who came to the door in Vegas until the 2nd time watching. I agree that the critics are wrong.

I posted this on my Facebook because I was so annoyed at all the flack this film got. One person did comment on my post, she had read the book but hadn’t had a chance to see the film yet. 🙄😡 So... this film has gotten a lot of flack and only spent a week and a half in the box office because of the negative critics reviews, but a decent amount of audience members do think it is a good film, myself included. On rotten tomatoes the critics gave it a 25% and the audience gave it a 67%. Let me explain. People are annoyed that at the length but it was adapted from an 800 page novel. They also often comment on the third act, which I agree is a bit messy. Some people enjoyed the casting, others did not. I personally loved all of the acting aside from Ansel Elgorts acting, which makes me a bit sad. I think part of the reason for that is that he didn’t get as much screen time as his younger counterpart actor did. Which btw, the younger actor, Oakes, did a fantastic job. When this film ended I didn’t really want to leave the theatre, I needed to process it more. I wasn’t sure what to expect going into it as I had not read the book but after seeing the film I want to read the book. The film must have meant something to some people because the book currently has four holds on it at the Niles Library. I think those who don’t like the film need to take into account that it is a serious drama with emotional depth. I think people are annoyed because they thought they were getting a mainstream drama that could potentially be up for the oscars but what they got was the story of an indie film showed to a mainstream audience. Here are my thoughts on The Goldfinch Pros: -It was adapted from the Pulitzer Prize winning novel of the same title written by Donna Tartt -For a lot of everyday scenes the cinematography was beautiful -Most of the casting was well done -The story while not the most captivating is an interesting concept -The score is hauntingly beautiful and I have been listening to it since I saw the film -It didn’t glorify the teenage drug use, it showed it for what it was which was their destructive coping mechanism to deal with the traumas the characters had experienced young in life -It gave us the super cute ship that is Boreo -It wasn’t like so many other mainstream movies that are so similar you guess the end halfway through Cons: -It is 2 1/2 hours long and it doesn’t fully pay off. It feels like it either needs to be longer to include more of the story or shorter. A lot of people think it would have made a good mini series -The third act is a bit messy and hard to follow -The ending doesn’t feel like it’s the right spot for it to end -I was actually going to see this again this week to process it some more but I couldn’t because it got such bad reviews that they removed it from all of our local theatre's... So, if you saw this film what did you think?

when i was in the theatre it was mostly people aged 16-18 with a couple older people at the back. the girl i was sat next to mentioned that her Mum had worked on the movie which was super interesting

Sameeee I loved the novel AND the movie and I just didn't get why everyone said the movie was bad cause i thought it was AMAZING.

A lot of critics don't like this movie and some of the criticism is valid, however, it is a very raw movie for the most part. Young theo is probably one of the best written characters in this decade in terms of films and screenplay. His scenes always felt very raw and real and I am so incredibly happy with the subtext in this movie. Some of the performances felt odd at times but in general I thought that young Boris and Theo had great chemistry which really glued the movie together for me.
