Been chasing par for 50 years. First time I ever understood the mechanics of the swing. At 81 years old I practiced this instruction and actually missed shooting my age by one stroke! Before seeing this video I'm always scoring in the low 90s-high80s. I can now die with a smile on my face

The appeal that this video has for me is its simplicity. Lessons in the past have gotten my head totally confused when thereafter I set up to hit the ball. I've tried the advice you've given and it's returned my golf game to those rare times when I had no swing thoughts and had my best rounds. Thanks, Stu Comstock

Best explanation of the golf swing being a tilt vs. turn. However, it is not as simple to do when you are actually addressing the golf ball and making the swing. "Keeping your arms straight out" and show the backswing move as a tilt is very simple to do as you well show. However, addressing the golf ball, and actually making a backswing to emulate same is difficult. I trust you understand what this "simple" student is trying to explain, but can you or do you have another drill(s) or method to make this tilt move over addressing the golf ball. Doing it as a "dry run" as you explain is easy to do. Not so when making a golf swing/shot.

I'm working on this currently. It's one of those things I've known for years and keep revisiting. I do fine on the backswing but the forward swing is WAY more difficult. I always stand up into the ball and lose my spine angle. Tilting down into the ball at impact or getting right side bend is so challenging but I know it's something I need to do. Putting in the work is the part that I need to remain devoted to. Thanks for this video very much!
@rkswingking
@rkswingking 2 ай бұрын
Usually the standing up part comes from the body reacting to the club not being swung in balance and the body counter balances to not fall over and to make contact

.. are you losing your depth on backswing. Look up Milo Lines swing coach, he teaches a baseball type swing where you flex or dip your torso on the downswing, it’s impossible to stand up out of the shot, good luck

I just want to thank you for the content as I think I've finally understood this. About 14 years ago I was doing MORAD and Mac explained it as a turn then tilt. Then the S&T guys were telling me it was a tilt then a turn. I generally found Mac's explanation better to follow but I would find myself 'twisting' and 'spinning' the pelvis and the legs more than anything and it just didn't look right. A couple of years ago I had heard from another instructor that it's like you said...it's really a tilt and not a turn. I couldn't really wrap my head around what he was saying until this video came out. Particularly with the neck tilts and not having the head going forward toward the target in the backswing. That really helped me a bunch. Anyway, I think if we were to be measured on some device that there would be some turn, but not really much. To me it's really mostly 'pulling back' the hip using shear forces in the feet along with and upper spine tilt. Then there's probably a minute amount of actual turn and probably a small amount of lower spine tilt as well. Then it's basically the same thing thru on the downswing just in reverse. For (years( this completely mystified me until I saw your video a couple of days ago. Thanks again for the great content.

This tilt, turn is confusing as explained. There is absolutely a tilt of the spine at the waist, with a slight relaxed feel at the knees. The backswing is not a turn but is a weight shift to the back foot which causes the hips to rotate back with the arms following. For those that find it difficult to get a fuller backswing, lift the front heel but not a forward leaning tilt of the shoulders. Simple. Julian Mellor has taught this for years and has changed my game in my senior years. Proper Golf U.K.🇨🇦👍👨‍🦳

Great video, it feels good to tilt instead of turn. It feels like I can swing the club on plane a lot more naturally with less club face rotation than if you are trying to swing turning horizontally then either coming over the top or adjusting your path trying to shallow or flatten you swing arc. So,... the question that came to my mind is approximately where are you tilting from? Are you mostly tilting from low right by your hips or more from your middle like your ribs? So I rewatched your video and I see your hips stay inside or even with your knees as you tilt. You don't slide your hips past your knees like the stack and tilt guys do. So I guess you don't tilt from the hips so much its more like a side crunch with your abs which keeps you more centered?? I think if I slide my hips horizontally past my knees or feet then tilt, then the club is swinging down later from a lower position and it never starts to swing forward, it only is swinging downward unless I do some crazy rapid turn up with my upper body. So if you do more of a centered side crunch tilt then your club starts to swing down earlier so by impact its swinging more forward earlier? Sorry for the rant, what are your thoughts? Maybe this can also help others. Again thanks for the informative videos.

Oh my ... thanks for the questions . Let me help make it clear.. The arms out and tilting is just a drill to feel what the body does in support . You dont have to think about what the body does . I want you to focus on the club swinging freely and if the head rotates like it should and stay centered then the tilt is built in to the swing. I dont want you to focus on all the nuiances of the body ...I will answer it though . The tilting motion is supported by the whole midline and the body supports ..and I dont want you to feel a ab crunch or the lateral bends , Most people over do that when I say that .

@@rkswingking Thanks for the reply, I will work on it, I guess you always have to hit a few balls to see what's going on. I've always been in search of a free swinging motion. I guess in golf you always know you have the physical abilities to hit the ball a lot better but you are not using the correct techniques.

Roger, I have practised the movements you teach at home and feel ready to take this to the golf coarse tommorrow . However I am not sure of one thing and that is ball position for the driver and some thoughts on how high to tee it up for driver too?
@rkswingking
@rkswingking 2 ай бұрын
Ok so this is a super controversial topic . If you swing the weight onna string with counterbalances then the club will always be in the middle and the ball is just in front of that . Some tour players and even really good players and long drivers have the ball position more forward That is because the use the ground and push the body more up on the backswing which then on downswing they load the ground and pushes them more vertical so the club will be hitting way more ascending . For traditional good circle swinging the ball tee height is about half a ball to 3/4 of it teed up above the head of the driver . Good luck and have fun tomorrow

The image is helpful but I can’t help asking, isn’t it a tilt AND a turn? Do you think part of people’s problem is that the turn mindset is a holdover from the two plane swing, which is a bit more upright and therefore more of a turn?
@rkswingking
@rkswingking 2 ай бұрын
It really is neither really . The thoracic extension that has to happen with all the side bends when the head stays on center is the tilt I am referring to ... however most still miss the point if you just swing the weight on the string or rope over the shoulder back and forth .. all these things happen . The main focus should be on that and not simply turning the upper body .. The body is always one of support

@@rkswingking I just felt like your example of tilting was ignoring this important piece. You really can't get the tilt right until the pelvis behaves somewhat appropriately.... if you visualize the top 2 points of the back of the crest of the ilium and draw points to the base of the sacrum... then model this action results in break through moments for some learners. I don't know if you can use that language, and going around and poking people at the base of their back gets you into eg carroll zone, but I think you get what I'm saying.
