The government has its back against the wall.
The election is in 6 months and they need a way to fix things before then. They can't afford to let the economy crash if they want to have any hope of staying in power…
And so… they introduced this plan to stimulate the markets, even though it goes against the Fed's entire agenda.

Fallacy argument: Its Banks that create Liquidity by lending money out to consumers & business. Fed borrowing & spend ends up mostly in the hands of the top 1%: Big companies providing products & services to the gov't: Think defense contractors, Medicare, & paying the interest on the debt, which usually goes back into gov't bonds because interest rates are much higher than they have been for the past decade. For the gov't to add liquidity to the economy, they would have to start issuing stimmy checks again, average Joe & Jane have money to spend. It does no good for Joe & Jane to Vote if they aren't getting an stimmy checks. I already see some big cracks forming as consumers are cutting spending dramatically. Just look at Oil prices, which are now going down, despite the usually season increase for fuel, and trucking companies are laying off & going broke. Yellow just filed for bankruptcy.

I have a question. From what I understand, 25% of the homes in America are owned by companies like Vanguard and Blackrock. They are just sitting empty. Are these companies tapping into the equity in their homes or not? I would like to know if the wealthy are doing this.

Glad you asked how would you feel if in deflation you had a mortgage debt of 500k and your house appraisal came in 300k Deflation has both its advantages and disadvantages but in an economy fueled by debt where a large majority has massive debts It’s true deflation could reduce cost of goods and services that’s one possibility another would be a downward competition on who could on price by companies who are not making enough to pay their employees leading to massive job layoffs e.g is Great Depression after 1929 crash Why I also agree past does not equal the future and all this are all speculation the only logical conclusion that worries me is the massive amount of consumer debt each countries has and the only way to service them comes from a job and what deflation could do the the economy and the layoffs…that’s all

If you ask what is better, no question it would be austerity, cut spending back to create a surplus and start paying off the debt. This would reduce income inequality, benefit savors and people who live within their means. Bring back ameritocracy. People who are against this are too corrupt to do it because they like the unfair advantage they have, then they feed you their twist that it would be so bad for the economy, unemployment going up, etc but the way we are going now we are just slaves to the aristocracy which is worse because at least in unemployment we would be focused on problems, solving those problems, using the entrepreneur spirit and create even better and more sustainable jobs for our future and the future of our kids

Yep there are two types of people in the USA net asset owners, and net debt owners. 10% of Americans own 90% of the Assets (stocks, RE, Gold etc). The bottom 60% of Americans are going to be debt slaves and have nothing. 60% of Americans cannot put $1000 together for a crisis. Ever wonder why in the past five years Bill Gates has become the USAs largest owner of farmland? Big hint, He has a team of very smart advisors and managers who know that the USD is toast, and Land is a great store of wealth. Record Gold prices and BTC prices are screaming the USDs problem. GLTA the next decade is going to be transformational in many ways.

@@bpb5541 I think the problem is the Baby Boomers and Generation X. We have always gotten what we have wanted and the gov't has catered to us. "Give us more and we will vote for you". Because of our Reserve dollar status the gov't has been able to spend more money than taxpayer revenues they collect. Now we are deep in debt but the last thing politicians want is to upset the largest voting group. I expect the gov't will let inflation rise. Seniors and Gen X who are asset rich will be able to remortgage/revalue those assets and then add that increase to their income to keep their standard of living going. This however pushes our gov't and personal debt down the road... to be paid by the younger generations. They will be the ones who will have few appreciating assets, job insecurity due to technology, increase living costs without any increased wages or fund their pensions. It is time seniors take the hit. Yes, we may have to sell our homes rather than remortgage. Yes, we may have to take a cut in Social Security. Yes, we will have to suffer some. But without us resolving our ever increasing debts we are enslaving the younger generation to a lifetime of hardship and poverty. It is time for us to begin to pay the piper for our lifetime of plenty.

Real captalism lets market correct. America hasn't be capitalistic since the GFC. Now it is Socialistic under the guise of captiasim. Which is even worse than just socialism. At least socialism like in France if you break your arm it cost you 5 bucks.... not 500 bucks. So really we are getting screwed from both sides.

Do not refinance. Exhaust all other options first. Home ownership is freedom. Inflation or deflation? It depends on what side of the grass your on. If you own assets, let it roll (inflation) my assets go up. If you're part of the common folk, let it burn (deflation) maybe I can afford to survive again.

This is going to be ending very badly when it finally reaches its inevitable end. Not sure this is going to work since everyone is broke. How are they going to pay their new loans let alone qualify for them if they're already tapped out? Maybe some will use it to pay off their credit cards and go on another credit card spending binge. Its not going to end will for sure.

Nice call out of Fed’s stealth easing by lessening balance sheet run off, highlighting gov mortgage agencies encouraging securitization of 2nd mortgages (what could go wrong), and treasury’s issuing of 1 year t-bills discounted for interest (no coupon expense as won’t need refunding until first few months of next administration)! You are concise, informative, well documented, insightful, and well spoken! Excellent!!!!

Yeah it's definitely a tricky situation regarding the older generation, but in the uk pensions are linked 2 inflation which takes some sting out of it. I remember my dad telling me his colleague took out mortgage in the 80s when inflation was massive but he was civil servant and pay linked 2 inflation also, so in real terms the house went up in value and he only paid the original loan. We need gold/ bitcoin standard, b4 usa went off gold Coca-Cola never raised their prices. But we do know who the culprits are, the same as in the big short as u just quoted. Excellent film

The problem with this scheme is that 2nd mortgage lenders are in a subordinate position for payoff in the event of default, making the origination of those loans very risky. This requires the lenders to charge high interest rates in order to compensate for the inherent risk. In the current environment most home owners probably are not willing to pay such high interest rates and ultimately risk foreclosure or short sale of their home. What's the homeowner's motivation....helping the bankers, or having the funds to take an extra Caribbean cruise during the year?
