You can hate Apple’s philosophy, think they’re overpriced, and disagree with every decision they make, but their decisions are perfectly calculated as part of a grand strategy.

PolyMatter I just want to make one point - about Apple not listening to customers and that quote from Henry Ford. If you take the “faster horse” part of the supposed customer need then you have all the knowledge you need - people want to travel faster. It’s not the customers job to tell you exactly what to do. And Apple follow that principle - with iTunes they noticed that people want a quick, easy and affordable access to music and they want to carry it with them (like on a Walkman) digitally. With the iPhone they noticed that people wanted to use the Internet on mobile but they rarely did because the experience was horrible. Anyway, obviously one can have wisdom, luck, knowledge to create a great product or service all by himself. But it usually comes from listening to what you customer say and reading their needs. Then it’s a designers, CEO’s job to come up with a solution.

Yet this video isnt even good. It doesnt actually explain most of what Apple does, and is often enough outright misleading. There is so much missing, especially for why people actually attack Apple: 1. Profit IS the one goal of apple, its a public company. The product "values" are only their product philosophy to get the money. That is something you always should consider when apple does something dumb. 2. Apple is perfectly ready to sabotage their products to make more money, to screw you over. Thats why they got lightning ports, instead of USB-C. Made repairs nearly impossible. Killing the phone jack makes it easier to sell their own audio solutions. They had a mouse with the power port at the bottom, so you couldnt use it wired. For their new screen, they literally engineered a power connector that cannot be removed without destroying the port, except with a specialist tool. This is not done because "you dont know what actually want and Apple knows better". Its greed and control. 3. Many of their products try to be special, but they fail to replace actual functions. The smart watch cannot replace a phone, because it doesnt do its job (and those airpods+mic are way too clunky to take out). So people use phones, which can do the mini-tablet job, making the smart watch pretty useless outside of super niche occasoins. Same way you cant replace eg a work PC with a tablet in most cases. Apple just ignores things it cant deal with and throws out random stuff. 4. Apple isnt even as revolutionary or ahead as the video makes you think. They havent even invented the most 'important' tools, like MP3 players, smartphones and tablets. They just polished them up into a more convenient form. How can you say theyre seeking the next big thing if they never actually invented it? 5. In this entire video, there is not a single examination of brand and marketing. The branding as a lifestyle product, an "identity". To leave that out is a massive misrepresentation of Apple, it is one of their biggest selling points. And also a big reason for derision.

Saurabh Raut steve jobs called it ICE 2.0. Like a type writer company at their peak stopping making and selling typewriters, and sell computers instead. Even though nobody has or wants a computer!! Why???? Because they know every mother fucker will use a computer next generation!! So they will dominate the market. A computer company selling a smart phone ??? Why ??? Because it's a small computer and we all want that computer In our pocket !!!! Simple really but takes literally future telling absolute accurate predictions. Look at VR, back in the minority report film they thought they needed VR gloves. But the next generation uses things like Microsoft Kinect to detect motion without gloves!!!!! Even futurists get it wrong, but apple actually gets it right every time. Headphone jack???? Retards the next generation is CLEARLY WIRELESS!!!!!! When Apple do it, it literally is the industry standard then. Like when Apple used USB and NO COMPUTER DID !!!!! WTF??? You can see why, because USB was clearly the future.

The average person is not thinking in better graphics, storage and camera quality (I mean numbers), that's why in Apple you see they're introducing, for example, new features that will make the use of their products easier, if they want to show that the camera is good, they'll show you directly a photo taken with that camera and they'll hide the numbers, for example, the Macbook, it's a light, thin, and ultraportable computer, with a very good, and also different keyboard, a very good screen, but they don't advertise, 2304x1440 resolution at 226 pixels per inch, they simply say "retina", the average computer user is not actually interested on the processor, they only see the space, the RAM and what they advertise.

Bet my old iphone 6 runs it better. Optimization is better, storage, google photos? i had an SD card on mt s7 but... i never used it, it came with 32gb stock, and even with movies i never went over 32gb, i even did homework on it... camera... debaitable, i love pro mode but auto was over saturated apple doesnr have pro mode and are great in auto, but lightroom gives iphone users promode... sooo yeah... samsung lost me, if i evee go back to andrioid it will be for the op5t

Some videos may seem biased, but I think he’s just trying to point out how ridiculous the Apple Hate is. I would personally say that he sheds light on all the things the majority of people seem to ignore / purposefully deny... I know this won’t be the Apple Hater Cult’s cup of tea, but I that it’s very important to educate ourselves & not inject our biases into places where they don’t belong. The iPhone 7 was designed to be as water-resistant as possible without compromising Apple's aesthetics. Removing the headphone jack reduced the number of "holes" in the iPhone 7's outer casing, eliminating one of the largest weaknesses in the water-resistant design. Removing this fitting also allowed Apple's engineers to cram more electronical components into the unit, effectively solving two problems at once.

I can see one fatal flaw in this strategy. If the market is already existent, then it is hard for Apple to dominate it. Take a look at Smartwatches and Wireless Earphones. When an Apple consumer tests out another product, and the consumer finds the product better, they switch. For example, Apple releases the Apple Watch when the market is oversaturated with Fitbit. And although it did made a small dent, more people still buy Fitbit, even the loyal Apple fans. Same goes for loyal Apple fans buying Beats, Jaybird or Sony wireless earphones. So this strategy mostly works on a situation when the market chosen is not oversaturated.

Incorrect. Apple has the most loyal userbase in the tech market. Because you know an Apple product will be of a certain standard and will be pair-able with the rest of you Apple devices. I personally don't use them but those who do almost always have a package of Apple products.

Here's my sources, you're completely off. Apple is currently the fastest growing smartwatch producer after Huawei. Fitbit is really losing it's position in the market. Pls stop misinforming people, you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. www.macrumors.com/2017/11/30/apple-watch-market-share-3q17/ www.idc.com/getdoc.jsp?containerId=prUS43260217

It's not the same for the smartwatches and earphones. But for iPads and Macbooks, if you see someone with them, there's a high chance of them owning an iPhone. Sure, there are some very very loyal fans but the earphones and smartwatches are not necessarily required in the ecosystem, so some loyal Apple customers still buy the better alternatives which are _better._

well, anyone anti Apple is nothing but a bias google robot majority which makes them the robot sheep. Seeing that Apple offers exclusive products rather than the conventional/prostitute android ware so that anyone and everyone can be a android phone.. Most Apple users dont care what Android users have to as their lower iq opinions dont count. Cant help the Android zombies, cause they cant focus on a single product, they jump from product to product and from gadget to gadget, bedazzled by gimmicky and flashy things rather than what ads value to their lives, the more imitation tech a thing has the more likely an android users gonna fall for it. The Apple user focuses on life, while their products is just something that ads value instead of trying to keep them busy with features that soon lose their charm and infatuation.. Cant blame android users for not getting it, after all they listen to everything their company says, after all its the worlds most powerful advertising company, so understandable that android users cant think for themselves, thats why they love ads and distractions. so lame. meanwhile google employees prefer using mac computers... and iphone’s of course. Find it funny how the very arguments they try and use against apple products is actually the very arguments that apply to them.

Remember when people called apple crazy for removing the floppy drive in the first iMac? Remember when people bashed apple for removing the CD/DVD drive on their laptops? Things we may have been reluctant to let go of, and pave the way for future UI. I'm not saying that removing the headphone jack is the way of the future, but in doing so, apple is forcing the world the adapt to a rapidly advancing world. Just imagine one day where USB C is standard for everything. One port for everything, isn't that the future we've been wanting?

Why is the fact that Apple designs and licenses their own port systems a bad thing? If companies couldn't patent or license anything, no one would make money and we'd have no third-party accessories. Also, I just want to reiterate that everything isn't meant to be open-sourced, dude. If anything, I'd consider that fact a positive... It was literally said in this video that Apple's goal is not to give people what they want, right? So why be surprised when they don't?
@BlakeV

Apple doesn't innovate much. Apple capitalizes on tech either they've already designed for use in their own systems, or tech that they feel is ready to be implemented and introduced to the world-stage. They shape the market in their direction, and THAT'S where the profit comes from. Apple also didn't make the first smartphone, but look where they're at now... It's all about timing, influence, & execution.

Unbiased? LOL. This not only biased but either naive or deceitful. It has nothing to do with reality and the true motivations behind Apple's choices. NOTHING. 1. If technology is Apple's enemy it’s to make people think that iProducts are above it and above trends... They're MAGICAL. The constant use of this word by Jobs and Apple's marketing is no accident. Because they almost never have the best and more powerful component (except cpu... until it's throttled) and they are now always late to the market (me-too products). The other principles are just marketing basics. 2. If they don't sell anything and everything (yet) it's because it would be stupid and suicide. It would dilute the brand. Though they started doing it and it will happen more. Apple needs to try and keep up with a significant growth for shareholders to be happy (more accessories, more iPhones models etc...). 3. They don't try to do "smaller". LOL. The iPhone has never stopped getting bigger and will keep on doing so this very year (6.5" model). The Apple watch isn't there to replace an iPhone... EVER. It will never be a standalone product. it's an add-on. Like an iPad is an add-on to a laptop which is an add on to the desktop computer. They purposely limit all these products to NOT be able to replace the one they're supposed to be able to replace. The only thing Apple wants is selling more products. 4. That's also the reason why Apple doesn't listen to feedback. Beside the arrogance, I mean. It's because if they sold what people truly wanted, they'd sell less products that could do more (like a true hybrid laptop/tablet)... The iPhone is limited in every way possible to accommodate Apple’s other businesses (selling digital products and services are the main reasons of these limitations like no USB mass storage, no Bluetooth or NFC files transfer, no file manager, no SD card slot etc… All this is to force you to buy from iTunes and use the cloud. The headphone jack removal is to sell more bluetooth/airpods earphones. It's not because it's "the future"... LOL. The removal of the home button is because it's easier and cheaper to build a phone without it. Less mechanical parts. And also to try and differentiate themselves -- with a WebOS/Palm like interface which replace buttons by a couple more gestures -- to hide the fact that they just launched another me-too phone/product etc...)... And because it's, like every company, lazy. Meaning the less they spend, the happier they are. They try to find the sweet spot between least spending possible for the most profit possible (that's financial efficiency). And with such un-demanding customers, the ratio profit/cost is enormous. 5. They haven't innovated for years beside for anti-consumer moves like the removal of the headphone jack, of ports (to sell more adaptors and cables). So, if they don't listen it's NOT because they create innovating products that the consumers couldn't have thought about by themselves... But, again, to maximize profit and keep on making decisions that profit Apple, not its customers. Their customers ACCEPT it. iFans and iPologists try and make everyone thinks it's because of grand vision for the future or "grand principle" that'll benefit them in the end... but it's just NOT true. And customers keep on buying Apple DESPITE these choices and moves, not BECAUSE OF them. And they don't pour huge amount of money in R&D, no. In fact, they are spending less than Samsung, Google, Microsoft etc... DESPITE generating a LOT more money. Again, from their point of view, the less they spend, the better. Always for the same reason: profit margins. And it works, since people and videos like this justify and even glorify every bad moves and average or mediocre (made to be magical) me-too products Apple sell. 6. The author of this video, and contrary to what he claims, doesn't predict ANYTHING with "his" "GRAND theory"... Apple will make a new iPad? Maybe a hybrid? Or something completely different that we don't know about? What great predictions... LOL. I won't even talk about the ad... he's indeed clever in the way he delivers it. But where’s his blog/website he built with his sponsor’s product? This wasn't supposed to be such a long post... LOL. Thus, it's not very well presented or argued. But I think you can get what I think and what I'm trying to say. I only edited it for typos. For (way) better posts and more (sourced/backed up) info and revelations you can read Apple: The Forbidden Truth --- or visit iHateAppleFanboysCOM.

Apple marketing is so pervasive that I was amazed at this video and (for a minute or something, until I found your comment, at least) thought it finally explained what I didn’t understand about Apple, even tho I had my perplexities like how anyone could think that something like removing the headphone jack is anything but a move to force people to buy their insanely expensive airpods. It’s always good to read opposing views compared to what you just read or listened to, because when we hear someone arguing a certain point it’s easy to think “this makes sense, they must be right!” without even trying to hear the opposite voice. You made me realise this video could have been written by a Apple marketing employee for how much it excuses their morally questionable practices in such an apologetic manner, even painting it as a grand theory meant to ultimately deliver something better for the customer (and people all over this comment section have completely fallen for it, writing comparisons between this and henry ford, who btw didn’t invent cars but that’s another story). Joshua V I’ll explain it more since I was kinda vague, usually from what I’ve seen and from what I’ve talked to people about is that even though Apple does less on their phones they are able to make it do what they do very well, like social media will work way better on iPhones, the cameras are less powerful than androids by quite a while but if you take the same photo multiple times it will turn out the exact same on an iPhone when on an android phone you could do the same thing and maybe get one of the pictures you took look different, and also Apple devices are usually better kept since they are updated for longer than android phones. I love apple devices and I won’t stop using them but it’s not like android hasn’t done some really great things with phones, they’ve made super powerful cameras, extremely well made chips and screens, etc. but with android devices there are so many different models that keeping them updated, all running efficiently, and more things it’s just harder to keep up with Apple in those categories. Nice set of principles! That being said, 1st is titled absolutely wrong. What apple is doing is the opposite of technology transparency. They abstract technical stuff away and lock down as much as possible. Simple to use comes at a cost to understanding how it works. It's a true principle, just imho titled wrong. 2nd is the most important. Those 4 squares are the reason why Apple is alive today. It was masterful of Jobs to cut on the number of products and focus on excellence instead on a couple of key products. A lot of companies accrue cruft over the years of operation, and it's always painful to shed dead mass. 3rd. is a double edged sword. As long as a company knows what they are doing, it's really good. Once they have lost their way... not listening to your customers and delivering products/features they truly don't need will doom the company.
@PolyMatter

I think we may just have a different understanding of the word "transparency" in this context. You say "They abstract technical stuff away" which is exactly what I mean, making the technology transparent and presenting their own interface that is as distanced from tech jargon as possible.
@fobusas
@fobusas 6 жыл бұрын
You may be right. Did a quick dictionary search, and turns out it's one of the definitions. "COMPUTING: (of a process or interface) functioning without the user being aware of its presence". General definition goes like this: "easy to perceive or detect" Which is odd, because if user is not aware, how can he perceive or detect? Seems like a contradictory set of definitions. The only possible solution I can think of is transparency of purpose and effect, not the inner working of interface or process.

I'm not a Chief Executive Officer, so I can't be overly hung up on Apple's success as marketing wizards. However, as a consumer, I can't ever respect their design decisions. Louis Rossman put it the best (regarding their computers), they can't engineer worth a damn, hinges on their notebooks suck ass, the aluminum is an overrated grade of aluminum that seems to warp easier over time, and that removing the headphone jack is such a jarring decision that it hampers its ability to be a decent multimedia machine. The headphone jack isn't even dedicated to one function, it can be used as a charging method if it were programmed to do so. Apple is killing off fingerprint scanners because they couldn't be the first to implement them under the display, which is a defeatist notion. Planned obsolescence isn't a bullet we dodge as consumers. Not to excuse Samsung for disrespecting the consumer by removing expandable storage options from the S6, their reasons were the perception that SD cards are not reliable in the long run even though same can be said about eMMC Flash on laptops, if you're performing intensive tasks on them in the long run. I currently use a budget Galaxy J3, loving it's removable battery and headphone jack, but these are clearly not a selling point for flagship devices anymore.

If we lived with the mentality of not getting rid of any ports, we would still live in the CD player era, lmao. These ports are fully universal and transfer speeds are insanely quick. I like the idea of having one port do everything and until then can live with an adapter, which isn't going to be very long. It has only been 1 year with the headphone jack removed and USB-C on the MBP, and in that year, so many manufacturers starting making USB-C drives, power packs, etc. along with major contenders also moving to it (ex. And these issues and bad design decisions are plaguing their products and what ultimately will lead to their fall unless they stop this stupid strat of "ignoring the customer." I got an iPhone and Airpods and had to return both (due to the aforementioned issues and many others) and go back to my Nexus 5X which is a much more polished product. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a sponsored video. It's like you're trying to get people to buy more apple products, and to be completely okay with what they're doing, which isn't innovation. They want to be as minimalistic as possible by removing features that make the user experience easier.... wait what?? It doesn't make sense, it's all for the money. They know that people will keep buying their products, no matter what they change or remove. They remove stuff so they can sell other things (such as the airpods), they make things cost more money, even though they're meant to be minimalistic. There are other things out there now that can do the job that apple products can do, and more, and you can get them for cheaper than any apple product.

William Phillips that argument is just entirely invalid in today’s society. almost every adult in the today has some sort of smart phone, and it’s all up to personal preference. they have become a necessary part of our lives and if it’s what you’ve used for the last decade and now buy purely because you’re used to it, then why should you be say they’re doing it to “show off they have money.” other companies’ products are just as expensive as apple’s anyways.

FANTASTIC analysis. I'm still sick of Apple's snobbiness (as a former longtime fan), but this definitely makes sense. I think the problem with their strategy is that everybody copies they're absolutely genius brand new ideas and gets away with it. Microsoft is more committed to Windows then Apple is to Mac OS, and starting to show (after 30 long years). Android is getting just about as good as iOS, if not better, and most of ios's Innovations in The Last 5 Years have been copied from Android. I wonder if there's anything left for them to innovate as they make their billions from shiny, thin yuppie entertainment - consumption devices. :/ Please understand, I'm saying this as someone who has had a profound love for Apple, and used all kinds of Apple devices for many years. It's just that the innovation has been wearing quite thin, and the bare - faced snobbery and elitist mentality is starting to shine through.
@StinkyDroid
@StinkyDroid 6 жыл бұрын
Ram Laska lol Android has been copying iOS and becoming more similar to what iOS has been and apple has skewed towards Android design in iOS. iOS 11 has the most customization ever seen in an iOS version and just blows Android away (except they really need to fix notifications...they're terrible compared to Oreo). iMessage is simply revolutionary when the user is aware of all it has to offer. Google has tried to copy apple with duo/Allo but has failed spectacularly.

Ram Laska call me a apple sheep, but I can’t fully agree with your “snobbery” and “innovative decline” they are doing their best to be successful, but when people are stressing them and making them feel like their brand is on thin glass that can end their company is a snap, they have to do things that will at first seen terrible but later on, look better, they are building a future that only they can see, because they unlike android, try to make things that will be better after time passes, for example, apple knew that the iPhone 6 era would live on, to today, it has, its the most used iPhone era, because it’s so good. So know this buddy, by being like this, they are not doing it for profit only, they are building a future for themselves where it’s gonna rise! so don’t call them snobs or Android steals, because they are truly the top of the phone game, as the future makers not the present makers

Ferre Vervoort I'd call it open source in name only. I got into Linux when the whole open source thing was brand new. Android is not recognizable as open source to me, personally. Android phones are nearly as Lockdown, restrictive, and user - hostile as Apple phones. I've used both, and I value both for different reasons.

Ram Laska I understand you, 1 year ago I was the same but then I discovered xda-developers and how you can root your phone on android ( my phone is a OP2 and oneplus promote's this to) so watched some youtube and voila, new ( free) android system with the latest android build 8.0 ( a year ago). With android you can do everything if you don't like the features just find another ROM and your good to go. It's not that I dislike apple, I dislike the features off IOS. You are locked in a system with limited features while you pay a high price for it. Some people like it because it is made that way.

6 years ago, shortly before I went onto KZfaq, I became an Apple fanboy despite never buying a Mac, an iPhone, or an Apple Watch at all. I was strongly considering it, but the only Apple products I have purchased during this time were an iPod touch 4G, an iPad Air first generation, and an iPod touch 5G. In fact, I was so big of a fanboy, that I actually put CNET on my KZfaq video blocker all because they bash Apple too harshly! But very gradually over the past year and a half, my love for Apple was diminishing due to their "planned obsolescence model" by making the latest iOS releases incompatible with my devices, and only half a year ago, the tipping point was where I accidentally broke my iPad's screen and we took it into Walmart to repair it because it would be more expensive to send it in directly to Apple for repairs. Shortly afterwards, and after I put a rugged case on it, my home button stopped working. My iPad would be the last Apple product I would ever use. Anyway, thank you for making a video that appreciates both love and hate sides of my Apple opinions, and for explaining everything I may need to know about it! Unlike other companies, Apple doesn't care at all about money, but they care a lot more about the next big thing, even if it means having to refuse to listen to customers to get there! And to me, that would ultimately lead to higher-quality products from them that everyone would love to use! Sorry for the long essay-length comment, but I clicked the like button on this one, it was so good!

I brought an old cracked ipad into an apple store and they replaced it for free right there on the spot. No questions asked, no receipt needed. They did the same for two iphones. I have never had an idevice not take an update because I don’t hold on to tech so long that it becomes a joke. Maybe update your devices more often?

@@xjohnny1000 what a load of BS. You mean Apple repair all your devices even if it was out of warranty?. BS! Apple never gives anything for free. They purposely slowed down the Iphone 6 and made people paid for their own battery replacement remember?.

@@David-uk7sm Well, you can say that all you want, but it's still true. It was an iPad 3 with a cracked screen, about 1 year past AppleCare expiry. They replaced it with a refurb at no cost. An iPhone 5 and an iPhone 6 Plus, on AppleCare, were replaced on the spot because of a flaky home button. Less than 6 minutes in and out of the store.

@@xjohnny1000 Now you tell us the full story. You bought the Applecare you idiot. Its a product they SELL and promote. By repairing even after it expired they are promoting again and again. See what happens then.

It kind of was the same for me but just much earlier. I had an Ipad 2 and that was an incredible product so much technology in such a small and package great build quality, there was nothing similar at that time. But now it is a different story Apple no longer has a product which doesnt have an alternative form another brand . At the same time they are not at front of new products anymore. There were severaly smartwatches before the apple watch and the bezeless smartphone was inevitable nothing innovating abput that.

The real reason Apple got rid of the headphone jack wasn't because of courage... They didn't create the headphone jack/auxiliary cord so why keep a port on their phone they didn't create. They don't make any money on it and it was taking up a little space. For each third-party lightning cable sold they take a cut (which varies from company to company.) So every time something gets plugged into an iPhone 7 or later they're guaranteed to make money. The later iPhones are selling themselves just in patent royalties. So in the end, removing the port is just another way to maximize profits.

They are just moving forward. They are not afraid of using a new port or technology. They where criticized with usb-a, the cd drive, and now with usb-c and no headphone jack. soon the industry will follow, as they always do.

Cesar Battistini Maziero because even though this is an amazing video they make up for their "small" following by jacking their prices through the roof. I have measured apples pricing for a macbook, and it costs 500 dollars more than the materials cost. That's a lot of profit, and I don't like them doing that. I wouldnt mind if it were a 100 dollars more than the materials. But you get my point; nothing worth the price.

Akash Rawat I am trying to work with as close to hard facts as possible. They would have plenty of extra profit if they had put 200 dollars more into the price for each macbook. Are you saying that any company is worthy to put a 5/8 profit on their product for "R&D"?
@nocashirl
@nocashirl 6 жыл бұрын
Its the same for most big companies out there, for example it costs literally $300 to make a Galaxy S8 yet its sold for like $750, sounds unfair, right? But that's how companies work and it is not just the hardware you pay for. A lot of money is spent on making their products all the way from designers, coders, testers, etc. Not to mention how good their customer service is, you are assuming that manufacturing cost is all that matters and anything more than that is pure profit.
