We dove a number of locations to capture this content. Our team spent weeks at sea exploring some of the most remote corners of Great barrier Reef. The reefs we dove, filmed and explored were:
The Ribbon Reefs (The Cod Hole, Lighthouse Bommie, Steves Bommie, Crack a' Jack, Flare Point, Gotham City, Pixie Pinnacle)
Osprey Reef (North Horn, Admiralty Anchor, False Entrance)
Bougainville Reef (Dungeons and Dragons, Crystal Plateau, Middle Earth).
The diving and marine world out here is absolutely world class, these reefs are drop dead gorgeous, some of them drop down to 2000m deep and are often considered the best of the best when it comes to scuba diving in Australia. Due to their isolated location, these reefs offer an unbelievable amount of biodiversity and are covered with dense marine life and vibrant coral gardens. The wildlife on offer stretches from Nemo and turtles, to large pelagic species, Manta Rays, schools of fish, and of course sharks. Majority of the shark footage was captured out at Osprey Reef, a world renowned nursery for Grey Reef Sharks, White and Black Tip Reef Sharks, Silver Tips and a few others. Our team visited these locations onboard Mike Ball Dive Expeditions. Spirit of Freedom is another operator who frequents these remote corners of the reef.
Milln Reef was next on our list, where we spent majority of our time filming Club 10 and Three Sisters. These reefs are known for their fish life and beautiful corals. Being located on the outer edge of the reef from Cairns, Milln reef has first access to the nutrients the flow in from the East Australian Coast, which results in the reef being home to some of the healthiest coral on the reef and a lot of fish life. We travelled out here with Passions of Paradise.
Majority of the turtle content featured in this reel came from Fitzroy Island, with majority of the filming taking place at White Rock, and Shark Fin Bay. The reason there's so many turtles at this destination is that the Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre is located on the island, and they're responsible for caring for and rehabilitating the reef's sick turtles. Once the turtles have recovered, they're released right off shore on the island where majority of them stay. Some of the shallow coral snorkelling sequences were also shot here, as the area has a lot of vibrant shallow hard corals.
The final destination that we included in this wildlife and coral film was Frankland Islands. Our team not only encountered a pair of friendly Manta Rays here, but were blown away by the Cabbage Coral cover and the number of True Clownfish (Nemo). The shots of snorkellers with Nemo (True Clownfish) were captured here in the shallow, crystal clear waters of Frankland Islands. We traveled here with the operator Frankland Islands Reef Cruises.
