Swami Sarvapriyananda dwells on one mantra from the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad.
His remarks are based on the 7th chapter of Vidyarana's Panchadasi.
Subects covered include: 1) steps to enlightenment 2) impermanence
3) the nature of the one seeking worldly satisfaction 4) transcendence
of suffering and attainment of bliss while living in the body.

ABOUT VEDANTA
Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions.
ABOUT VEDANTA NY
Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

swamiji , you keep saying " i have been taken such a long time" , but actually it is the opposite, I CAN LISTEN TO YOU FOR HOURS, they are like nectar to the ears. It is only because of great people like you, that we get to hear & understand the great teaching s of Vedanta so easily and so profoundly. My deepest gratitude to you.

Thank you, Swami. That was a very clear explanation of bringing the intellectual understanding into the full being. I've so often heard, "Move your awakening from the head to the heart," or "embody" your awakening, but without any explanation of precisely what this means or how to do it.
@hs0022
@hs0022 2 жыл бұрын
There is no awakening related to the head. The head is possessed by the “I Ghost” only and only seeks to fulfill all the pleasures it is aware of by interacting with maya. Once you stop interacting with the maya it automatically goes to the heart where the ghost is liberated. When you are no longer possessed then you can see the ultimate reality.

7 stages of Vedanta 1) Ignorance: We don't know who we are 2) Veil: Maya 3) Error: Not seeing atman Brahman 4) Indirect knowledge: Body, intellect, mind to be ourself 5) Direct knowledge: Life is suffering 6) Transcendent of knowledge: take faith 7) Great Bliss: Realization

❤🙏Another enlightening and inspiring lecture! 1) 7 stages in the spiritual journey: ignorance, veiling, error and suffering(samsara), indirect knowledge, direct knowledge/enlightenment, transcendence of suffering, attainment of bliss. 2) The 3 factors in the cause of the great bliss: a. Finally realize that you have done what is to be done in human life. Ultimate satisfaction: have found god and found the true self. You have done it all. Nothing is remaining in life to be done. b. That which is to be obtained in life has been obtained. Got the God, infinite, what the life meant, have got. c. What is to be known in life, the search is over. Have known the absolute.

Such an insightful explanation of a Mantra from Brihadaranyaka Upanishad (4.4.12) 'Atmanam ced vijaniyad ayamasmiti purusah Kimicchan Kasya Kamaya Sariram anusamjvaret' which means; when a person realizes that 'I' am not the body and mind, but 'I' am 'Sat Chit Ananda' (Existence Consciousness Bliss), then desiring what and for whose satisfaction or for whose sake for such a person continues to suffer along with the body and mind

@craigsmith: to your question if this swami is enlightened? there is a great story which would be a perfect answer to this question but will take up too much space. Hence, sharing a Doha/couplet by a great 15th century mystic poet & saint Kabir in India - "Jaati na puchiye saadhu ki, puch lijiye gyan. Mol karo talwaar ka, pade rehne do myan". Meaning, don't dwell into the details of the preacher, value the words & knowledge that's coming out through him/her. He goes on to give an analogy, value the sword how does it matter what cover is it in? Also, when one becomes highly perceptive, one can sense the knowledge that this swami exudes & the whole package can't just be plain intellect. Without divine grace, it is just not possible. My personal opinion, I may be wrong. He looks like a shakta - devotee of divine mother. In the end, when you start assimilating all the knowledge he gives. His status of being enlightened or not won't matter.
