Chili pepper eating competition at the Great Dorset Chilli Festival Sunday 4th August 2013.
Compere by Darth Naga in association with the Clifton Chilli Club this year. www.greatdorsetchillifestival.... for more info.
The crazy sometimes mad contestants take on the challenge, from the humble jalapeno, Cayenne pepper, Red Habanero, Dorset Naga, Ghost Pepper we move on to the 10 Minute Burn chilli Sauce to sort the Men and Girls to find a winner!

Hi Michael, It depends on the event sponsors, normally it's a hamper full of Chilli products kindly donated by the stall holders, we have had BBQ as prizes as well worth over £200. ;-)

Jesus, all of them are so impressive. Especially the last two! I was once tricked into a spoonful of Blair's Hot Sauce and I was in so much pain, discomfort and panic I was verging on suicidal for half an hour hahaha. Absolutely amazing and I read a peer reviewed study on men who can tolerate and enjoy chili's are higher in testosterone! Bravo!!! :') :') Also, for next time- an interview with them after they had recovered talking about what they were thinking/feeling/experiencing. When the winner said "his hands are bloody tingling" I had my hand over my mouth in shock and tension!! Lol

Hi Sanfranciscobay, Yes we have rules which are explained to the contestants before hand and also on stage. They must bite the pepper and chew then swallow, we also have a few judges that watchand ensure that this happens. When they get to the hotter ones we ask them to chew for 20sec and then swallow, to ensure they are getting a fair share of heat. Also the cameraman acts as a judge to, he uses hand signals to alert the judges/compere.

I was a bit surprised to see the Indian gentleman drop out so early; I figured that he's used to spicy foods ( being Indian ) . Quite unusual to see a sauce thrown into the mix. Overall a good competition despite the lack of female contestants. ( I always root for the ladies, but you guys know that already )

I ate my first Ghost Chili today.It was so hot that I passed out for a few seconds.I'm trying to eat one everyday from now so I build up a tolerance.

Hi Creyz Sounds worrying that you said you passed out for a few seconds, that is not good we would suggest that you see a Dr to see what is causing this. This is the first time we have ever heard this, please seek professional medical advice. Building up a tolerance level is not just go and eat the super hot chillies, basically you start at a lower heat and eat those and over time you will notice that the heat does not affect you that is when you go to a hotter chilli and so on etc.

Clifton Chilli Club I would have failed at even thinking of eating one! I've eaten a ghost chilli at work for the amusement of my team. I should add I can't eat peppermints or fishermans friends or anything of that nature without sweating like a marathon runner. I have zero tolerance to chilli unfortunately, though fortunate for others to laugh at so it's all good. If I can make people giggle just by eating a mint it's a pretty easy grin win :)
