That sounds like something Tzeentch would say. Although the other major chaos gods would frase it differently. For nurgle, the great game give his followers a challenge to survive. For chorne, a never ending war to test themselves. For slaanesh; the a never ending way to experience unique feelings and situations.

Chaos will always be one of the gems that drew my eye toward the warhammer universe in its entirety. Fantasy, age of sigmar, 40K, it will always be of interest to me. The whole mythology of the ruinous powers will always stand out amidst all others. Ascension to a daemon prince has always been my favorite bit of lore from chaos.

considering the short comment about the great game resulting in one of two endings, that being one of the end times and the other with no ending at all, i wonder if GW will ever ever have the gonads to retcon the events of the end times themselves. perhaps an alternate universe where age of sigmar exists, and another timeline where chaos continues to fight amongst themselves. warhammer fantasy does fantasy right, and in a really creative way no less. it's a shame GW sort of just upheaved it because it wasn't has popular as 40k. praise sigmar we still have we not only have vermintide, but also total war and this channel to give it some life!

I just hope that they do not "solidify" the End Times as an event by doing some temporal shenanigans, I hate that. Retcon it in the most brutal of ways: it never happened!

Give it 5 years, fantasy will be back and aos and fantasy will be linear parts of the universe, like all of fantasy happened in one part of the aos universe or vice versa, so its like a cycle of fantasy to end times to aos to sigmar reforging the universe and back to fantasy

I've heard the reason 40k became more popular was because the rules are simpler and easier to master, the models are more affordable, and people seemed to like Space Marines more than knights on horseback. I used to play fantasy at a local war- gaming club, but most members only played 40k. Most Warhammer references found in other media also seems to be about 40k rather than fantasy. Before Total War: Warhammer, 40k had many successful video game adaptations, where as fantasy only had Mark of Chaos which didn't do too well, and Warhammer Online which was killed by more successful MMOs.

The Dark Gods of Chaos are more interested in their Great Game than they are to any war within the material plane. Endless Eons of conflict has been fought within the Realms of Chaos and innumerable armies are send against each other which are destroyed and remade by them to continue their long game, but it is clear that they do not want a clear winner, just the endless conflict feeds them more than enough that they do not want it to end.

I don’t think any of the Chaos Gods can actually win the Great Game. Sure, one may gain and/or lose ground to one another. However, I don’t think they eradicate the other entirely. Each of the Chaos Gods and the domains they are represent are in fact interconnected. There are feelings of despair, rage, ambition, and lust that overlap…or are even nested with one another. Think about the complexity of the emotions of sapient beings. One can feel more than one emotion at a time. Heck, one emotion can feed and lead to another. I think it’s the same of the Chaos Gods. They are interconnected and perhaps nested in each other. Even if one were to “destroy” the others, they would recreate their rival. They are trapped and bound to each other for eternity.

Hey, a nice video. One thing though. I wasn't 100% sold on the Nurgle part. Nurgle is stagnation, it is everlasting life, life eating itself due to overabundance. A drastic CHANGE of state such as DEATH is more of Tzeentch's domain. Nurgle would give you complete immortality, but it would be banal, stagnant, without purpose.

That’s what I’ve always like about Chaos, the deeper meaning than just a bunch of pure evil bad guys. There’s complexity and oodles of symbology. Some BL authors really give more depth to Chaos like Dan Abnett with his portrayal of worlds completely enthralled by Chaos in the Gaunts Ghosts series. It’s material like that which gives sharp nuance to Chaos.

However, evil will never be victorious in the end. Being evil is inherently self destructive (in the real world and all genres). Evil will lose in the end in Warhammer (Fantasy and 40K) as it does in everything else. Food for thought for everyone!

I never really agreed with the matching rivalries between the Chaos God's. I think Khorne vs Tzeench and Nurgle vs Slaanesh makes more sense. Pride vs Reality of Decay and WAR vs Destiny makes more prolific rivalries.

Nurgle and Tzeentch make perfect sense(stagnation vs change), as do Khorne and Tzeentch(might vs magic). Khorne and Slaanesh kinda work too(direct slaughter vs assassination if you would). Khorne Nurgle and Tzeentch Slaanesh don't really make sense to me. What are they feuding over? I can't think of anything metaphysical(you already covered Nurgle Slaanesh).

"Since Chaos is nothing more than the projection than all our minds, thoughts and emotions" This is not true in Warhammer Fantasy. This is only in 40k. Chaos in Fantasy is based off human suffering, not thinking and feeling wrong things. it's based off action, not emotion. 40k is the world's most ham-fisted metaphor mocking Thatcher-ism. That's why things like "not blindly obeying superiors", "thinking for yourself", "having religion outside of state sponsored religion", and "feeling things" makes you an irredeemable monster. It's mocking 1980's British conservatism. It's saying that even in a universe where fascism was necessary, it still wouldn't be justified. You can't do that in Fantasy, or else literally every single person who worships Sigmar is exactly the same is every single way as someone who worships Chaos. It makes Karl-Franz functionally identical to Archaon. It breaks the whole world.

I have done a test on the internet the gives you 24 questions about personality. Once you answer them all, you get to see how much percentage you are devoted to each Chaos god. I had: 64% Khorne, 85% Tzeentch, 33% Nurgle and 49% Slaanesh.
