Today we travel from Joe Wheeler State Park Marina in Rogersville, Alabama to Florence Marina in Alabama. We go through two locks, Wheeler and Wilson Lock where we wait over 5 hours to go through. Florence Marina is one of our favorite stops. Don't miss Ricatoni's Italian in town! #boating #greatloop #greatloopcruise

You had excellent travel buddies. Larry is the most knowledgeable guy on the rivers. Roy is a hoot! +++David and Orally! All from Goosepond Marina. They typically do annual or semi annual tours someplace on the Tennessee/Cumberland River system. Hope you get to see them on your future adventures.

I do really love the videos and story you guys are sharing. I’d love to do the loop someday but want something bigger than my gas 33’ Sea Ray. What’s your average fuel consumption at both your slow speed and then up on plane? It’s got to be a lot with that huge of a boat. I’d like to see a walk through tour of your boat if that’s something you might consider? Safe travels!! FYI, my first Sea Ray was named “FREEBIRD”. 28’ cruiser. Very good boat.

We are asked this question a lot. We know the gallons per hour consumption. At Freebirds slow cruising speed of 8.5 to 9 mph (depends on wind, waves and current) she uses about 6 gallons per hour. At Freebirds fast cruising speed of 23 to 24 mph she uses about 35 gallons per hour. Here is a link to a tour of our boat: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q7WnqrGAnritZmw.html

When you get farther north on the Mississippi some places of interest along the river that I like; the Earthquake Center at New Madrid, MO; the home of Superman in Metropolis ,IL; the home of Popeye in Chester, IL, along with Fort Davidson and the Menard Correctional Center opened in 1878; the Kaskaskia River lock and damn where some loopers overnight ; Ste. Genevieve, MO the oldest town west of the Mississippi where I am from. I am looking at a 560 Voyager and a Marquis 65. I am 6'8" and cabin height is important. How do you make out the with cabin height in your 560?

Hello Dean, thanks for all the local information. I am 6’4’ and have plenty of headroom everywhere on the boat except the engine room. You will be fine in the salon, galley, pilot house and flybridge. However, below deck in the staterooms and hallway your head would touch in the 560 Voyager. The 65 Marquis is a gorgeous boat but may limit your marina and cove choices while traveling the loop. Thanks for your question and good luck with your boat search.

Does the captain know to calculate that what ever distances the Mrs calls out, to divide it by 2?

With the 100’s of locks and dockings we have done, there is not a scratch on the boat so our communication is pretty good.

I see that you are still tying off to a floating bollard, eventually you'll encounter one that sticks and will get a good scare.

There really is not a choice. You must follow the lock masters directions. That is why you wrap it a few times and do not lock it on.

@@FreebirdonTheGreatLoop I noticed you doing exactly that and instantly knew why. I think you two are not new to this, lol!

@@DraggonCanoe Thanks for your comment. We are pretty comfortable in a lock at this point.
