There are plenty of skill trades out there that pay well. It just takes 2-6 years of experience and ojt to earn those higher wages. It is quite common to earn no less than 75k per year in these types of jobs. The "everyone needs to go to college to get a decent job" thing is a myth perpetuated by the education industry. This myth is one of the main factors behind the astronomical tuition rates of today. Of course, if you want to sit on your ass behind a computer all day and get paid well, you will probably need some sort of degree or certification depending on what you want to do.
