Was that a gas bottle I saw on your bow deck? Gas bottles should be stored in the gas locker and nowhere else on the boat. Even "empty" bottles may contain enough high pressure gas to cause a problem if it leaks and you can't guarantee that it will go overboard. It might enter your boat through low level door vents.

Ely Cathedral, also known as The Ship of the Fens. Built long before the draining of the Fens when Ely was an island. Ely is a small City and always busy after the tranquility of the countryside - but you do have shops!

The building is around 1,000 years old, but the stained glass you show can't be that old. Stained glass was new 1,000 years ago, but the range of colours seen in that window could not be produced then. Yellows and oranges were not possible, and some reds were unstable. At the earliest, that window would be 14th century, maybe 15th. Most cathedrals have been worked on and added to more or less continuously for centuries, with both decorative additions, extensions and sometimes new towers and steeples. The additions and improvements were often paid for by extremely wealthy aristocratic gangsters. Having spent their lives in petty warfare and feuds, grievously exploited people and robbed them of the fruits of their their labour, visions of burning in hell sometimes occurred to them as life wore on. The answer was to stump up for a lady chapel, a new and more ornate Western entrance, or whatever. God would be chuffed with them, so BINGO, they'd get into heaven! The building of 1,000 years ago would have been simpler, and maybe smaller, than the one you see today (I don't know Ely's particular architectural history). The huge windows you see now may have been much smaller, and in some cases (though not at the Eastern end) maybe not there at all. The stonework and walls would, though, have been painted in the brightest available colours, some of it designed to pick out decorative features, while areas of the walls would have depicted bible scenes and "lives of the saints". The bare stonework seen today was a result of Reformation ideology. The "popery" was stripped and scrubbed away. In some places, statues were smashed and in others people took advantage of the general climate to demolish bits and cart the stone away to be used in other building projects.

Yes I was thinking glass would've been a rare item and hard to make but look at the skills these people had is incredible. Why build such massive windows if they didn't have glass? Possibly like you say a later addition. Our history is much more complex then we are led to believe Martin. Thankyou for the feedback and information. Have a good day.
