Fighters Megamix is such a jewel. It deserves more, more credit. Sadly no one had a Saturn outside Japan and this game was forgotten and never discussed anymore.

I still believe to this day that Fighters Megamix is the left over scraps of the Virtua Fighter 3 port that never was. There’s so much VF3 in that game in terms of move sets. Still, I would love to see that fabled VF3 Saturn port leak some day. If it even exists

Jaggy Love! Thank you for including the Last Bronx intro, I watched that so many times as a teen. Definitely my favourite 3D fighter on the Saturn. I agree that VF2 is probably a better game, but Last Bronx has so much style I absolutely loved it.

It has amazing games in all genres. Guardian heroes and Saturn Bomberman are excellent multiplayer games. Shining Force 3, Dragon Force, and Panzer Dragoon Saga are amazing RPGs etc.

Last Bronx and Virtua Fighter 2 are freaking incredible, to this day, I find myself returning to them every once in a while, playing the arcade versions, as well as home ports, both console and PC ports, I grew up playing these two games, I was lucky enough to recieve both games early on in my childhood as gifts for the PC, with Tekken 3 in the arcades being what introduced me to the concept of fighting games, VF2 and LB are the two games that cemented my love for fighting games, especially 3D fighting games.

When I was like 11, I was amazing at Last Bronx. Don't know if I still am, if I had a Saturn still I'd dig it out and give it a go. One of my fave fighters ever.

Your videos are great. Just discovered you channel thanks to this video here, and also loved your Tomb Raider one. You let the games speak for themselves when it matters, leave the audio on when it fits. This is about the games, and not about you. I respect that, it's also my philosophy. The algorythm is getter better and better at that stuff I guess. You earned my sub, and you deserve many more. I'll be checking your other works when I get the time. :)

Love how the devs of Dead of Alive made the jiggle physics a priority even on the first game of the franchise, I need to try the first game because I love DoA and it's probably, my favorite 3D fighting franchise

Thank you very much, Man. I grew up reading the Official Saturn mag and Edge magazine and I used to love the design of both. Everything looked so cool. I'm very much emulating that style, but in video form obviously, with a little twist of my own. I try and make these games look and feel as cool and fresh as they felt to me back in those days. I'm probably the only person who liked Dead or Alive 1 more than Virtua Fighter 2 in terms of Sega Saturn port. Though yeah, Virtua Fighter 2 is i guess the better game, i just thought of the porting part.

my biggest regret was not giving last bronx enough credit and props, everybody was on that vf 3 hypetrain and last bronx got kinda passed over but in fact is the best 3d fighter on the saturn

I think your ranking makes sense. However, besides the Virtua Fighter games, my subjective favorite is Fighting Vipers.

Great video and your reasoning for your rankings are good. Glad to hear how much you love Last Bronx: it's a killer fighter. There's no way I would put VF Kids so high though. It's graphically great, but the big heads and small limbs ruin the gameplay for me. Swap it with Fighting Vipers and the list is closer to my ranking. Here's my ranking of those I've played: 12. I get why VF2 kinda has to be number 1 but i gotta be honest, hearing your overview of Last Bronx has me wanting to run off right now and go play it, good lord if its half as good as youve described then im in for a treat. I Havent even played it yet but i already feel like its been robbed by a game i already know and love

I've never really understood the appeal of this era of 3D fighters, especially next to this era of 2D fighters. Still, I've always thought Last Bronx was the best of the bunch even though it seems to be less beloved/discussed than its peers, so it was very validating to see it place so highly here ;D

i would change fighters megamix for DOA1. I find DOA1 as a top 5 3D fightings for the SS. Great video BTW!

18:20 As both an avid mark for pro-wrestling particularly Japanese wrestling, and somebody who may have small skill at fighting games but I like them quite a lot, this game rules. And the sequels GIANT GRAM All Japan Pro Wrestling and GIANT GRAM 2000 All Japan Pro Wrestling are still some of the best wrestling games ever made. A treat for fans of old 90's AJPW

This was a fun video! It's missing three 3D Saturn fighters, though: Funky Heads Boxing, K-1 Fighting Illusion Shou and Keriotosse. They're all Japanese exclusives and I doubt any of them would crack the top five, but still.

Thanks very much Man. K-1 is the only one I probably would have put into the list out of those 3. The others are stretching the concept too far for me. There was also Victory Boxing/King of Boxing that probably should have gone in too but I decided against it as it has an unusual camera perspective and kind of felt more like a sports title (but then I did feature a wrestling game, so...) K-1 wouldn't have cracked my top 10. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoyed it.

VF Kids felt like it should have just been a cheat mode in VF2 than its own game. I remember the UK mags saying the same.

The official UK mag gave it 91% though! In my opinion Kids was a game made for the Japanese market that just happened to also get released overseas I think. Chibi stuff is always popular over there and they were trying to introduce new audiences to the series. Also, Virtua Fighter was selling like hot cakes in Japan and they were squeezing more money out of the I.P - they had a whole range of plush toys etc to release alongside it. It makes little sense to many of us in the west, but it does from a Japanese perspective, and taken purely on its own merits it's a great game. 20% faster than VF2, great remixes of the original tunes, a fun art style (in my opinion), new gameplay mechanics, FMV endings for the characters etc etc.

I remember it scored well, but with the caveat that only huge VF fans should buy it. I could never get on with the short reach of the characters, maybe I'd have liked it more if they'd added something like powerups, as in Pocket Fighter or Power Stone. Good point regarding Japan, Sega could have released a turd with the VF logo on it and it would have sold there. It was released in Japan with a Java Tea tie-in, for goodness sake! 😄

Man, all I played in this list were Toshiden and Virtua Fighter 2, tho I only owned the latter. Was aware of Last Bronx and would have given a left nut for Fighters Megamix. Not necessarily my left nut but nut the opposite of right all the same

There is nothing cover honestly, is just generic fighting attended to attact audience with “favorable” interest. Each character has small limited, and duplicated at times, set of moves, some with a cheaply made hadoken, imagine imagineer trying get street fighter players lool.

The story is basically each fighter trying gain role of being next top star, hence the ending for each character take places within a musical concert. For content difference in between ports, saturn would offer voice takes of the female voice actresses, none for the males. Funny enough, the some actresses didn’t no credit into the game as in their media lookup, no reference of the game within the list of voice projects they partaken in. Dare to say, this took worst death than bubsy since it failed to maintain interest for sells, each installments, presentation wise, were lacking of uniqueness, and didn’t properly understand the market they were going for.

I hated the Virtua Fighter 2 port so much back in the day. Gone was the atmospheric lighting system, the 3D backgrounds, and the audio sounds horrriby muffled. Just played it again for shits and giggles. And it still sucks arse. But funny how every mag praised this port without mentioning how much of the arcade feel had been sacrificed.

I don't agree, sorry. They mentioned the lower polygon counts and loss of 3D backgrounds etc plenty in the UK Saturn magazine but concluded that it was a great port regardless. The Saturn was vastly inferior hardware to the Sega Model 2 - they cost around 15,000 dollars per unit after all, yet Sega managed to deliver a relatively detailed 3D game running at 60fps in a high resolution on a £250 home console, which was basically unheard of in those days. Most importantly, the gameplay is basically a perfect match too.
