Very interesting. The kids now want to go around Chester and see if they can find the cannon damage lol. Well that's something to keep them busy during the easter half term at least. 😊

R. N. Dore in his book The Civil Wars in Cheshire states the breach where Lord St Pol drove back the besiegers in his night shirt was at Morgan's Mount. I've never understood why Morgan's Mount is considered a Royalist gun emplacement as the outer defences of the city stopped Parliament from attacking the North wall until after the Battle of Rowton Moor. Surely after Rowton the Royalists wouldn't have the ordnance or ammunition to supply a cannon. The Royalists used the North Gate of the city freely until then. Could not the arch by Morgan's Mount be evidence of the breach there? Filled up with matrasses and bedding etc for the 4 months after Rowton until the surrender and then made into another entry point into the city?

I'm glad it did. Prof Tim Grady does a fantastic presentation on the forgotten German graves in Cheshire from the first world war that's on this channel as well.
