Playing for a place in the Final 4, Wu “The Great Wall” Yibing and Diego “El Peque” Schwartzman put on one of the all-time great UTS matches at UTS Los Angeles.
Wu raced out to an early lead in the first quarter, recording one of the biggest victory margins at 20-6.
Perhaps the easy quarter win helped The Great Wall relax, because he quickly became the Great Entertainer on court.
Pirouetting after points - standing IN the service box to return - blowing kisses to his opponent - bowing - taunting Schwartzman at the net - showing off his vocal range between quarters - running into the crowd to high-five Ben Shelton - sitting down and meditating on court - accusing Nick Kyrgios of using his towel.
We saw it all from Wu in this match. There was plenty of great tennis action as well, with El Peque storming back into the contest by winning the second and third quarters, 12-8 and 18-9. The Great Wall then bounced back to claim the third quarter 19-12, and the match was locked up at sudden death-the fifth of UTS Los Angeles!
Both players had match points during the sudden death, with Schwartzman fluffing his first attempt, meaning that Wu was able to claim the match 4-3 and seal a spot in the Final 4.
