Played this for the kids at home when our last son was born. My wife had never heard it and cried as the big brother and sister saw him for the first time!!

I was going thru some family photos today and found my daughter's birth announcement in 1979. This was the verse we put on the front, changed to lines to 'this is your brand new sister', then added next page the announcement was coming from Russell a brand new brother and his parents. It was perfect.

This song always brings tears to my eyes. Such beautiful Taupin lyrics coupled with Elton's sublime ivories. My favourite is the live with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. For som ereason I always picture a Victorian mansion with a small boy in a nightgown and very proper parents. Just live this song.

Why is this not one of his most famous songs?

Most songwriters put words to music but EJ writes music for the words and is a master of his craft.
