In this sequel, set 2 years after first contact with the "DIY motion controlled camera rig" young KZfaqr (Do It Whenever), the key to civilization's victory over a future robot uprising, is the target of the shape-shifting comment section.
Here's the basic BOM I used:
---ELECTRONICS---
* Raspberry pi 3 (or 4) - amzn.to/3SQPUkz
* Arduino mega 2560 -amzn.to/3f4oyEj
* 6 axis CNC shield - www.tindie.com/products/eccen...
* Stepper drivers (TMC2208 for quiet motor operation) - amzn.to/3kEzU31
* DC-DC buck convertor 5V - amzn.to/35Bjmo1
* LED volt gauge (OPTIONAL) - amzn.to/3AfNgOa
* Misc. rocker switches (OPTIONAL) - amzn.to/338wakv
* Camera DC-DC convertor (OPTIONAL) - Camera specific
* Various connectors and CAT5e "stranded" wire
* Electrical slip rings (6 wire ) - amzn.to/3lD5jnz
* Electrical slip rings (12 wire ) - amzn.to/3dgYSr0
* Electrical slip rings (24 wire ) - amzn.to/3faAcxh
* NEMA 17 gearhead stepper motors QTY 2 - amzn.to/3bRXsTC
* NEMA 17 stepper motors QTY - 1 - amzn.to/2UKPdwm
* NEMA 8 gearhead stepper motors - www.omc-stepperonline.com/nem...
* 3 cell lipo batteries (5000mh) - (OPTIONAL, any brand will work) - amzn.to/3Qon7lN
---HARDWARE---
* 1" OD anodized aluminum tubing.
* 3/4" OD anodized aluminum tubing
* 3" x 3" solid metal round blank (built-in counter-weight) Don't worry if you can't find this item. I've designed a 3d printed container that replaces that item. You can fill it with commonly sourced lead (think scuba weight bags)
* Various length bolts, washers, and nuts (2mm - 3mm - 5mm - 8mm)
* Slot channel style t-nuts (their slim and lightweight) - amzn.to/3w0E3H8
* 16 Teeth 8mm Bore Motor Metal Gear QTY 2 - amzn.to/3CjIWiv
* Speaker Tripod Stand - amzn.to/3bPATPx
---Control Solutions---
UGS ( universal gcode sender platform) This runs on the raspberry pi - winder.github.io/ugs_website/
GRBL mega 5X fork - this runs on the Arduino - github.com/fra589/grbl-Mega-5X

It would be nice to see a scaled down version of the rig. Cameras these days have become so good, light and compact that for many of us a rig capable of carrying such a large camera isn't necessary. Having the capabilities your rig has, just for a smaller camera, would be excellent. Easier to make, less cost for filament, perhaps some smaller, cheaper motors etc.

I'll be ordering electronics this same week. The most difficult is the 6 axis shield because they don't send to Spain, but it seems it can be ordered by ebay.. The video, as all you do is AMAZING, so funny and care edition. Keep on the way man, maybe you are not an engineer, but for sure you are a MASTER!!

Thanks a bunch :) you can get away with a four axis shield if you didn't need the camera functions.. as I mentioned in the video the issue with my camera makes it difficult to use for programming but I already have some other ideas on upgrades that can utilize that free axis.... Two options are a motorized sled for the whole camera rig or a rotation axis for the camera.

What a monumental achievement! And I loved the "Camulator II" intro and all the other fun references 😁 I was thinking - if you have your reverse kinematics figured out correctly, instead of ENCODERS you could have some load cells in the part that holds the camera to measure pushing/pulling/torque and have the software move the camera to match the desired motions. Hasta la vista baby 👍

Very interesting, thanks for also sunsrixing the things commenters suggested, I'll look into those. I was surprised you use ugs and edit manually as it's a program I know and I expected so e fancy custom thing. Your use is to program moves, mine is a bit different. One thing I was able to do was have just arduino with grbl and shield, then use a windows form application with USB serial port connection, it then sends a string of the code down the serial port. I was then able to easily make a custom ui in the program and set buttons to then send code to my camera system. Either way, very cool

right now the base just has the 19v power supply going through the slip rings so I can rotate the whole rig without binding. I was thinking of replacing the Rpi with a NUC or similar type of small based windows machine. That would definitely open a few more doors for cool options to play with

@@DoItWhenever Oh man, that's really rich for an open source project. I might use both - Dragonframe for stop motion and bottango for live. What I like most about Dragonframe aside from the moco features is that it will "onionskin" frames, allowing you to overlay stop motion frames and play small segments as you go. Sure, it's $300, but one client will pay for that.

I'm definitely not an engineer :) My terminology might be wrong but I was hoping the graph on the screen would help display the concept... Both setups have the same running max speed it's just a matter of how long the rig takes to get to that speed and slow down from it.

Ugs does allow you to control A b and c access The only issue is you're not able to see them in the DRO... It makes it a tiny bit annoying to program a move but really not too bad. Before I program any move I zero all the axis and use absolute positioning. As long as you make a note of where you move A b and C are at it's not a problem. A nicer control solution would be really nice but this option is free for everybody and works immediately without any programming
