Just sharing a fact: Urasawa actually has a co-author called Takashi Nagasaki. If you look at the manga prints you can see his name is always there but no one praises him. I wish they'd credit the man too, because as for the story he contributed in some way, otherwise his name wouldn't be there.

Gelato it definitely does the first arc’s quality is not matched at all and the story just gradually gets worse and worse. If its not important then why include it? that is my gripe. Whether it was explained or not does not really matter if it was not explained in a way that did not seem like backtracking. Also don’t just throw another friend at us whenever you feel like there needs to be another character. Give us all the friends at the start of the story or just have a lower amount of friends.

@@whyfi8760 It would be pretty long to explain in detail, but the fact that kanna has precognitive abilities (like god) is linked to the mistery of the identity of first friend, who actually used tricks and didn't have any power at all. Later it is discovered that kanna's abilities are the result of an experiment first friend did on her, using second friend's power (who was actually superhuman-like).

20th century boy, Monster and Pluto has impacted me in a way which is hard to describe. I was at my local library during my senior years in high-school and I saw my mate reading 20th century boy ... I asked what he was reading and he simply said "A masterpiece". He wouldn't spoil anything but he lent me the 16 volumes (which was extremely heavy to carry on my back home from the bus station 😂) and said I would be glad that I took them all and not only the first volume. ... he was right... I needed to know what was the ending and the conclusion to many of the mystery that was being introduced every chapter! I went on to read his other stuff after enjoying 20th century boy. i agree...the works are phenomenal ...yet i wanna give this argument for ODA , 1st if ODA would make like short/medium Manga he would create masterpieces, 2nd to make a manga with 1000 chapter and with a WEEKLY base and keep it decent...um that's not to be slept on..., so if ODA would work like Miura for example i think he will KILL IT.
