They're actually very good against bombers once you learn how to use them. And you can surprise people who go for stall maneuvers.

There's a way to get out of them I've found, I'm not really good enough to describe it well and it doesn't work every time for me, but if you time it right, you can turn so that it's impossible for the to get their guns on you.

Let out a volley before them, I always start shooting a little before 1km then you'll see them start to fire and break away then catch your rounds to their cockpit. If they end up shooting first just break away, don't risk it, and try again. Or avoid them all together if you're not comfortable. But I love doing headons tbh the kill is so satisfying especially if you just barely dodge the wreck of their plane. It's exhilarating lol

I feel like the regular F Mk IX is already very good at high altitude, maybe just add an F Mk IX with a Merlin 66. Or just a Spitfire Mk VIII

@Siegward of Catarina You must have only used Imperial Japanese Naval Air Force 20 mm canons if you say that Japanese 20mms are good, try those of the Army air force line and then we can talk.

@@martijn9568 the ho-5 cannons are pretty good my guy, they have much better drop off than the type 99s fire much faster. Use universal belts.

@@martijn9568 did you read any of the prior comments? I was describing Japanese 20mm performance. I wasn't comparing them to anything else.

If the G 55s could pull the takeoff flap card on you , plus it has better roll rate , it could get you in a vertical in no time

@@ELITE-xn3sh The Spit MkIXc is better in the vertical than the G55S, better climb, p/w, lower stall speed, much better control at stall speeds. I love the G55S, it's my most played fighter. (NoobNumeroUno) in game name. In a same enegy dogfight the MkIX and MIXc and G55S are quite close in performance with the Spits being just slightly better.

@@lukefrombk I was just pointing out what i knew about the g55. I have some record under my tally (ELITE340) , but i hold nosignificant records for the spitfire family whatsoever , i only played the israeli ones to progress. So boss , we can try out a custom , lets see what each can do and cant. Greetings!

And watch how hard you roll. It can destabilise you during a dogfight and especially during Aiming

Here's how I play, but first we gotta recognize the pros and cons of the spitfire Strengths - Good turn - Looks pretty - Good climb Weaknesses - Float carburetor - Basically don't do -G's because the engine will die out - Compresses over 600kmh - Bad at bomber hunting due to the hispano cannons - Can't chase aircraft in a dive due to both speed limit and the spitfire's weight - (iirc) Cannons overheat quick if held down - Weak as wing spars until later variants. This means both weak roll and wings are likely to snap if sneezed on by a 20mm - Landing flaps that have very slow break limit or landing flaps are never used unless landing or stalling Of course, there are unlisted neutral things that the spitfire has that aren't really worth mentioning. A spitfire is something that controls you, not it. What that means is if you treat it rough it will treat you rough - note this in sims especially. You are only to fault if you see this and fail after as you're clearly not eliminating these weaknesses from your playstyle. Basically how you want to play is to either be accurate with your shots or fire in bursts, fool every braindead German pilot into turning with you, play to all of your strengths listed above and avoid your weaknesses. If facing America and Japan (which god help you) try and 1v1 as much as possible as usually the Americans will dive on you and the Japanese can out turn you really quick. The way to beat Japan players is to try and do what I call "American doodle dance", AKA Bait your enemy. Of course because of how rare the Japanese and American line ups are for me I need to try this method but it's the best shot from what I've researched. I would also recommend both looking at the video series "how to spitfire" - this goes over modifications, playstyle and everything in between and learning how to duck under someone's guns. For me, it took countless guides, research, forum posts, etc. But if you want a cheat code here it goes. Think of someone's rudder as their gun line and try and roll. Don't count on it to save you if the target is 200m (0.12 miles) away. A way to avoid braindead un-sportsman-like braindead boom and zoom is to turn into their dive, this makes it both harder due to the camera and how uncomfortable it is to do so. I would also DEFINITELY recommend watching these very fun IL-2 BFM (battle for moscow) dogfight tutorial videos. These are the groundwork of what you should do in a spitfire and generally any other plane in a dogfight. Anyway with that done remember to put sugar in your tea.

I use WASD for pitch/roll and c for free look. I just move things gradually to conserve energy
