I recall playing one in an internet chat room once. There was a bot that would randomly spawn countryballs. If you guessed the flag fast enough, you gained the card. Theoretically, you could use it in a sort of Pokémon battle environment, but in practice, the rules were a bit confusing, and like Pokémon, people went around growing their collection. It was changed to İstanbul in 1930, meaning it was done 7 years after the modern republic was in place (1923). I think it was more of a situation of how people already pronounced it, and it was officially used as that instead of Constantinople since. Both sound sick tho

Yes obv there are gonna be retarded greeks and turks that will hate each others race. But since both turks and greeks realized hating on a race is stupid. They dont hate each other anymore. Fun fact: Constantinople wasn't really renamed to Istanbul. The name already was in use even under Byzantine rule and just somehow replaced Constantinople in terms of popularity in the following centuries until it was officially declared Istanbul when the Turkish Republic was founded.

Istanbul actualy means "Towards the City" in greek. The Byzantines called Constantinople "Polis" (The City) because it had a rlly long name and it was also the most prestigious city of the empire.

1:28 we call most of countries like that Bulgaristan, Yunanistan(Yunan means greek), Macaristan(Hungary) etc. We either use -ya or -stan for English -ia or -y. Like Germany is Almanya( Alman means German).

1:27 Yeah we call them Yunanistan, Yunan (Greek) + (i)stan (suffix for land). Basically, Land of Greeks. We mostly named countries with -(i)stan suffix :D
