I always felt left out and an outcast. I was real pretty as a young teen and in my 20's but still felt left out. Now I'm in my 70's and learned over the years that when you are pretty you will be bullied as much as if you were not and you need to build your self-esteem with the knowledge that you are you and you are worthy. Pretty leaves. Self-esteem stays.

I always listen to the song to cheer me up. I may live in California, but in a conservative area. I’m atheist, pansexual, and non-binary - and sometimes I get judged for that (and A LOT on KZfaq). I remember about a year before I turned 18 I told my parents I wanted tattoos, and they HATED it. But being an artist I of course wanted art on my body. They relented and eventually embraced it but with the condition that my tattoos would be covered by most shirt sleeves. They were afraid having them would jeopardize me getting a job. But it’s been 13 years since I got my first (and 7 since my second), and I’ve noticed more and more people complimenting my tattoo. And I never got unique piercings because of the job thing - but this past week (since my birthday was Monday and shitty) I got the middle of the cartilage in my right ear pierced and then my daith. And I actually better about myself and stopped worrying if someone judged me based on my alternative fashion, etc. I’m a kind, open person who doesn’t judge people based on their looks - hell, I went to GameStop and a guy was trying to exchange something for credits or money, but couldn’t because he hadn’t gotten his ID in my mail yet - so I stepped in on his behalf. He and the cashier were so surprised that I was willing to do that for a complete stranger. That’s what has helped me ignore and not care about any judgmental looks anymore because I know inside me is a good person. And strength considering I should have died 2.5 years ago from liver and respiratory failure - dealing with the PTSD from it and feeling like a failure, she told me that most people who had a 40% or lower (like me) chance of survival, with even me at the age of 28, would have just let their body die. She imparted that I most have a strong inner core that I just don’t register. It’s been freeing to dress, etc. in the way I always wanted to but was too afraid to, but I’d rather be happy being alternative than depressed by looking “normal”. Plus with some mental disorders like Borderline Personality Disorder and PTSD I can get judged, but there’s nothing I can do about it other than embrace it and learn to live with it.

When I heard this song for the first time (while watching the movie for the first time), I automatically thought back to when I was a teen and was relentlessly bullied. Every word that was being sung was something I wish I'd had the courage to say to those people back then. The most inspiring song ever. Also, being a dancer, I really want to learn the choreography lol.

Omg. I absolutely love this song and video. I cried with you. You’re right about it. It’s very strong message and very deep. This is my go to song when I feel sad. Which is everyday. I feel like I’m not “normal” and I wanna be someone else. I’m not treated kindly and I don’t like the way I look. So this is basically my anthem. I feel you girl. Never apologize for crying. I cried like a baby on my video and got so many hate comments. Screw everyone. Ughhh I wish I can hug u. And do the dance to this song together. Your reaction was on point. 😩❤️❤️❤️

I had the same reaction when I watched the behind the scenes video where Keala Settle sang the song for the first time to the rest of the cast. You can see that she was so nervous and she cried, she made Hugh cry. She was filled with so much emotion and I felt it. If you get a chance to see it, I recommend it. That was an Amazing video and I need to see that movie too. Your reactions are always Perfect Petra! You show the emotions that so many of Us feel but can't express for one reason or another. When I was Younger I had some very negative people in My life and I thought they were what the world considered "NORMAL" because they were what I saw most of the time so I didn't have a REAL basis for comparison. I Did everything I could to be as different as possible from them.... Tri-Colored Mohawk, piercings, Black eye liner, black lipstick, Black nail polish... I even found a floor length black suede trench coat that I put 2 inch spikes on the shoulders of and That was how I dressed to go out in public. I wanted My appearance to SHOUT... "HEY WORLD, YOU CAN TAKE YOUR ""NORMAL"" AND STICK IT WHERE THE SUN DOESN'T SHINE!". As I got older I realized that what I thought was "NORMAL" was not anywhere close to what I thought it was. Over the years I ditched the spiked coat and the tri-colored mohawk and I stopped wearing the black make up. I let the piercings close up and found My first REAL friends. People who didn't change how they acted towards Me no matter how I was dressed or what color My hair was. They just wanted to be a part of My life and That felt Good. That's how I feel about You too Petra. You always seem to make time to read Your weirdos comments and reply to them. It feels like You really do care about Us and You're genuinely concerned when one of Us is having a hard time in Life. Because of Who You are and the heart of gold that beats in You... I will follow You. You have a Lifetime follower Here and I couldn't be happier. Thank You Petra for all that You've done to overcome the negative things in life. I saw this film for the first time a few days ago and several times since. I love it so much. Everything from the superb cast, the sets, the costume design, and ofcourse the soundtrack. But mostly the heart and soul every cast member put into this project. You can see it in every scene. It makes you smile. It makes you cry. It makes you wanna celebrate humanity and how beautiful it can be. If you haven't seen it, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.

I've had so many struggles with who I am and like you I've often wished I could be someone else, but honestly just this song has done more than years of counselling...not that counselling isn't helpful, but just having these lyrics in my head helps to drown out the negative thoughts. *hugs* from Canada, you made me cry because you are so beautiful and I hope you can see it! I always cry when I see this song, I’ve struggled my whole life from being bullied. I am... #1- Autistic #2- Nonbinary #3- Ceterosexual. My OCD has me editing this post multiple times.

Hey Petra... this song is so powerful because most people have grown up from childhood with strong insecurities even crippling ones. Lots of songs deal with similar issues but there is something extra with this one that always makes me cry. I host 2 karaoke night and the first few times I tried to sing it, I kept breaking down in tears onstage. There is nothing wrong with us learning to love ourselves! You are cool

I really love this song and everytime i watch this music video it made me cry.. all my insecurities to myself were gone and i just see myself as who i am and what i really want to be for myself. Im so touched. My heart is crying for joy. Its an eye opener to myself as well. 😭😥

What inspiring lyrics and what a beautiful reaction video. There's nothing to be sorry about Petra, crying just shows how deep down the lyrics felt to you. Just keep being you, that is what everyone loves about you.

I am a Jona Viray fan and I was thinking that her version of NEVER ENOUGH has more soul and passion than many other covers... AND THEN, I clicked on the link on Katrina Velarde's version and i listened, and listened, and listened... AND oh dear, how come she does not breathe? ADMITTEDLY, IT IS WAY BEYOND THE LEVEL of many who have made covers on this song. Her's was done, not in a recording studio but at home, and only with a mobile phone microphone, BUT it is technically perfect and is much much clearer than those who have been rated into a "Top 10 Covers".
