When producing their live wrestling shows, the WWF / WWE would use unique stages, entranceways and sets to distinguish one show from another. In the modern era of professional wrestling, the stages and sets look very similar, but from the mid 90s onwards, the WWF (and WCW) would have unique stages and sets for each pay per view. This helped give shows their own identity, and some of these sets were used to enhance matches.
This video looks at some of the best sets, stages and entrance way designs WWE / WWF & WCW ever used. We'll also take a look at some favourite TV show designs including the "Smackdown fist" that fans have been wanting to see retutn for a long time. Other stages covered include the famous WCW Halloween Havoc 1998 and 1999 designs, the King of the Ring chair design, the Backlash hooks, nWo Souled Out, multiple WrestleMania stages and more. Also included are fan submissions such as WWE Taboo Tuesday / Cyber Sunday.

I like the WCW Saturday night show entrance with the door opening and sometimes you see smoke for certain superstars. Wrestlermania 9 entrance and the setup was iconic because it was one of the early PPVs that was outdoor and it was in Caesar’s palace.

The overall Saturday Night aesthetic with the futuristic warehouse was awesome, and the iconic WCW bullseye ring canvas design was perfect for it.

WCW had long runways leading right up to the ring in early 90s and 2000 mostly for ppvs. I also liked the sloping ramp used on Raw from 1997.

The problem with modern stage settings is the are over produced have so many generic logos all over them. Even the titantron video is a thing of the past because of it. The overall look of the whole arena set up also helps to trigger memories of the experiences more when part of that set gets used in a match.

Last ppv i went to was backlash 2017 and i agree. The tron behind the wrestlers when they entered just displayed their name. I cant remember if the screens above the ring showed in ring footage or not though

Vengeance 2005 was amazing because they incorporated Las Vegas in it with the fabulous Las Vegas sign and 2 poker cards that would feature the two combatants. I was also in person for that one :)

Yeah it was the first Wrestlemania I can remember watching as a kid, pre recorded on VHS. I have fond memories of it, regardless of its rap. A lot of it is due to the set being so different.

A few sets I have nostalgia for are the 1992 WWF entryway with the 4x4 screen introduced in August of 1992. They also had the multi colored neon light entryway. I also enjoyed the 1992 SummerSlam set with a large light up SummerSlam logo.

Not only do I miss the different entrance sets, but I also miss how arena architecture made every arena look different from one another, on the inside. Like the Norfolk Scope didn't look like the Hersheypark Arena. And both looked different than the Mid-South Coliseum. And those didn't look like Madison Square Garden. And so on. I always liked the Halloween Havoc set with the jack-o'-lantern, and the Backlash sets with the hooks as well.

My favorite WWF/E sets by far is the SmackDown! Fist set, Summerslam 1998, and Wrestlemania's 17, 24, and you can't beat 33 with a roller coaster!!! And Halloween Havoc's set with the giant pumpkin was absolutely perfect.

Raw Stage from Mid 2001 until early 2002 with one big canvas in the middle. Two canvases on the side and one canvas under the big canvas and of course that TNN Logo above the big canvas

I love the late 90s raw set. Just plain and simple but it had something the newer sets are lacking. Probably a raw edge lol. The 2003 metal stage also holds a special place in my memory

To me the entrance set is as important as the rest of the show. That's why I don't remember a lot of big TNA moments on PPV, since it always looked exactly the same as their weekly shows ...

TNA did suffer in this way. Lockdown and Destination X were the only unique ones but that was for the ring not the stage

I remember really liking the 2019 Royal Rumble set. I think the entrance way was meant to imitate a dugout because it took place at Chase field. I also liked the way the walk way bent at a 45⁰ angle because it kinda reminded me of how they did that back in 98 and 99 in the attitude era

I've always liked the Backlash swinging harvesters I thought it was a pretty unique set design. It was also included in the best wrestling game of all time WWE NO MERCY. Seeing it in the game really meant something to me.

I always loved the WCW Saturday Night set from 1994. Also the first Thunder set was very unique for WCW standards. But the best PPV set ever in my opinion was Halloween Havoc 1998.

1998 had some cool stages and are some of my favorite pay per view sets. I love the gate one at Summer Slam and I love the big skull one at that years Survivor Series.

Oh man, the Invasion set was everything. The tension at the time and then incorporating the separate entrances for the WWF VS WCW/ECW teams was absolutely brilliant.

Royal Rumble 2008 stage was really minimalist, yet so interesting. Just a bunch of screens, some buildings on top and a set of LEDs simulating a city (and also separating fans from the wrestlers, but close enough to touch them). I always will remember John Cena's entrance with the people all around him. Not just the stage, but the production felt very different, with the main camera pointed at the front of the stage, not sideways, always seen in the background during the Rumble Match for the countdowns. That was the most iconic PPV stage for me.

The sets that stand out to me the most is the Smackdown Fist set, the classic WCW Nitro set, WCW Halloween Havoc set, and the WMX7 set. Those are my most favorite ones.

I loved that Saturday Night set up too. With that pillows of smoke blowing from the entrance way. I know I'm in the minority here, but I actually loved the first Thunder set with the stones! It only lasted like 3 weeks.

Being from the U.K. he's probably not familiar with it. I think it was a TBS Superstation show and I'm not sure they got that channel overseas. I could be wrong. I think they got some of the syndicated WCW shows though and NITRO. I don't know how the Monday Night Wars worked as far as how the U.K. got the shows. I think they got some of it on Sky Sports? I think WCW Saturday Night was a more U.S. thing. I never hear any of the British or U.K. fans talking nostalgically about it like we American wrestling fans.

You hit a lot of really good ones. One of my personal favorites that wasn't on here was the new generation-era RAW set, where the RAW letters made up the set itself. Very minimalistic, but I always thought it looked fantastic. Even though RAW mostly sucked during that era, I associate that set with some iconic moments like Vader attacking Gorilla Monsoon, Razor Ramon going ballistic and brawling with Goldust, Diesel and Undertaker having their back-and-forth feud and playing "mind games," Mankind debuting, etc. My WCW favorite I didn't see a mention of was Spring Stampede, particularly 1997 and 1998's sets. I loved those kitschy WCW sets that had all of those props (Halloween Havoc, Bash at the Beach) - it made for good brawling.

Some of my favorite sets are the Raw set from 2006- early 08 I just like the updated look of that Raw stage and as well Jeff doing a 30 feet Swanton to Orton before the HD makeover which I also like the debut HD sets since I started watching at that time and how easier they look in comparison to how bright everything is now. I also love the Night of Champions 08 set because of one of the banners having the cruiserweight tittle cover up in an ECW logo cause they forgot to make a banner for the tittle which is very funny once you see. I also love the No Mercy 02 and 03 sets a lot they have there cool charms and very great matches too as well I love the Unforgiven 04-07 sets and as well the Survivor Series 04 set with the rotating screens during the entrances. And as well I love the New Years Revolution 05 stage with the Puertorican flags and the best Elimination Chamber match too. And lastly my favorite Mania set is 23 for how tall it looks and the unique Mania name font they used and the blue and white contrast so well and the iconic entrances as well too. 😄

The OG Nitro stage was fire… but I consider the downfall pretty much solidified when they changed their logo/all their sets.

Well WCW also started using the same stage for every show and PPV mainly running out of money But I can understand why they switched to LED screens I belive it was explained the old sets wouldn't look good when they switched to HD but I do miss the old sets

Product of my era, but I’m fond of the WCW Saturday Night set in the mid-90’s. Along with the music, it felt ominous...a good place for a fight.

Always going to be the High school quality of Chamber of Horrors 1991! To some they are the darkest days, but so many happy nostalgic memories from that era!

I loved the Late 90s Nitro WCW logo entrance way. It was the first wrestling show I got to go see and man alive what a show it was. Goldberg and Sting vs Sid Vicious and Rick Steiner with Rodman showing up to talk smack to Macho Man. So fun.
