this mix saved my life 30mins ago. i'm a kentucky backwoods digital soul, playing this analog game we call life. lemme' get right to it- i climb radio towers for a living and i'm currently sitting on the edge of the peak platform (harnessed of course) with feet dangling over the edge at 1940ft, red '72 in hand, headphones cranked to 11, and i just finished listening to this mix. it's been a rough new year for me, found out my wife has been cheating on me with a patient at her work, she works at the facility where our state sends the criminally insane. she doesn't know that i know, but i do, and i have did extensive research into his case. he raped a 8yr & 15yr pair of sisters, one didn't survive the hiv/aids she contracted after the event, but because of some bs technicality- he doesn't go to prison, he spends the rest of his life at that facility getting higher than i ever will.. and my wife has been romantically involved with him for over 6 months now. i haven't touched her once since i found out and she hasn't changed her attitude in any shape or form. i loved this woman, gave her everything and then some to make sure she knew i will do anything for her, anything... about an hour ago i finished the work i was doing for this night job, and started back down. some climbs take 2 or 2.5hrs, and so i'll throw in some headphones and listen to some chill tunes. i was making my way down and of course started thinking about everything, why? why him? she could have picked anyone in the world over me, and she picks the most foul & putrid bag of filth that curses the human race today. i lost it guys, i stopped and broke down, i've never cried so hard in my life, i'm still catching my breath from it... i was giving up, and i was 1 wrong thought away from unhooking my lanyard and stepping off. this very mix playing right now was what i started when i began the decent climb. idk what it was but at 29:20 something hit me like a 2 ton truck. my mind was just overcome with peace and serenity in a way i haven't felt or come close to in my 30yrs on this earth. i realized the only thing keeping me from being happy with myself is just that- myself. the only person that has any control of how i feel, what i think, or what i can mentally endure- is me. ME. im not sure if it was god telling me it's not my time, or if it was just my brain tricking me into not doing, but whatever it was- was more real to me than anything i have ever felt. tonight was just going to be another sh*t climb, another sh*t shift in another sh*t mood, another depressing night, another night obsessing over trying to prove to myself that i'm better than the vile evil she's been involved with, but it wasn't. my life changed tonight. my entire outlook on love, self awareness, self respect, my ability to say this is what i can do and this is what i cant- all of that changed. i was literally 1 step away from ending my life tonight, but something in this song stopped me, and made me take a moment to just stop and think of what i was allowing her * him to do to me, the place they made me run into.. i'm here to tell ya' it's a profound & impactful experience- on a tower at +1700ft, middle of the night, alone, absolute silence outside of the headphones, calm wind, about 100/150ft above an ever-changing slowmotion floor of clouds that stretches infinitely to & beyond the horizon in every direction, as far as i can see, illuminated by the moonlight, having just had an existential epiphany and realization about moving forward in life... i could try to explain the sights, thoughts, and experiences i just had 30mins ago, but i know i just cannot adequetely do so even if i had a lifetime to try... for now i'm going to finish, make my way down smiling for the first time in over half a year, and take my life back, take my happiness back, and start living my life the way i want to, the way i need to, and the way i should have been.. w/ love & grattitude, i humbly suggest next week's mix be labeled "the ascent". believe me when i say it AT, this mix, your mix, it saved my life tonight. thank you.
