The story gets pretty out there but there's build up if you followed all the story and side material from the beginning, xrd is like the 6th mainline title, there's a lot of baggage behind.

I believe its due the fact the game itself is full of action already and honestly, when someone wants to enjoy a story mode in a fighting game, he/she just wants to turn of the brain for a minute and relax instead. In all ArcSys games prior to Xrd I always felt thrown out of the immersion each time I had to fight mid-story... specially cause some stories have certain conditions that you need to follow to get the real story etc... Just lay back, enjoy a visual novel with moving characters just hits the right spot.
