@@trashyclips4488 dunno if anyone ever told you this, but what you're describing is an action called "muzzle dumping", which is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. And it is a very bad habit to be in as a shooter. You're basically training yourself to instinctively react to a shot that hasn't happened yet, and as much as you think you might be, you are not in fact faster than a gunshot, and even tiny variances in trigger break or any other millisecond-lasting events can result in you going wildly off target low (or high, if you intentionally aim high to try to "catch the bullseye" as you dump the muzzle while pulling the trigger).
@georgemorley1029
@georgemorley1029 2 жыл бұрын
@@trashyclips4488 That’s flinching. Don’t do it. Anticipating the recoil is pointless. The more you do that, the worse the result downrange will be. I’ve been trained by Royal Marines on the Glock 17 (19:25) and I had it clearly shown to me why it’s so bad. You will drag shots low all the time. The instructor stood behind me and asked me to take a few shots, focussing on the front sight, then he told me to secure, took the gun from me, then handed it back and said carry on and keep focussing on the front sight. When I pulled the trigger, the chamber was empty and the front sight dipped down violently out of the rear sight. That was where the bullet was going to end up. I was flinching. You can’t anticipate the recoil. Nobody has the reflexes to do that. The bullet leaves the end of the barrel and is at the target before anyone can react. If you pre-empt that and effectively point the muzzle at the ground, the gun won’t rise up to be on target - you’ll dump the round low. He then told me to do nothing but aim at the target and hold my finger on the trigger but not to squeeze. He then drew my finger back onto the trigger while repeating “aim, aim, aim” over and over, the gun went off and the round hit dead centre on a black target patch from 20 metres. He then said, “now you know what to do, just hold the foresight on the target, squeeze the trigger and do nothing else”. Yes the gun recoiled but because I had a firm grip, it reset the sight picture and the round went straight in the same place I aimed. Over and over and over. Then you can work on building up speed once you know what “right” feels like. Check this video out - this is what I had done to correct my flinch and it had me shooting right inside of 10 minutes. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nq2boZqEtsuVhmQ.html

The Walther PPK is given to him by Major Boothroyd the original quartermaster from the Bond books and whose name was based on an actual person Ian Fleming served with at MI6. The character of "Q" was invented for the movies and he doesn't show up until the second Bond film, From Russia with Love. As a matter of fact, that scene in Dr. No actually took place in the book "Casino Royale". They placed it in Dr. No because it was the first Bond film and they wanted to establish the Walther PPK as Bond's steady weapon (not out of choice, because it's actually forced on him by "M").

Not quite - we do see Bond handing over his Beretta, but they didn't use a 418 in the movie, they used a Beretta M1934. Also, his "PPK" is actually a PP
@Sarrienne
@Sarrienne 4 жыл бұрын
@@thepenultimateninja5797 You are correct, but to be fair to the film they probably just picked whatever was available from the props company (which happens a lot), and Fleming never actually *specified* that it was a 418 anyway. Just that he described something he himself had used and was familiar with. He wasn't much of a gun geek, so probably hadn't even remembered the name.
@thepenultimateninja5797
@thepenultimateninja5797 4 жыл бұрын
@@Sarrienne Yes that's exactly what happened in those days. They probably just called the movie armorer (most likely Bapty) and asked what they had on hand. A Beretta 1934 and a Walther PP were "close enough". I don't think there's really any doubt that the Beretta in the novels is the 418. The only other possibility is the almost identical 318, but those were produced in much smaller numbers.

Pretty cool when it came to the P226 I thought it was in reference to his sidearm on Safin’s island then I saw it was from 4 years ago. I liked that Bond uses a PPK as a concealed spy pistol and the P226 as his combat handgun.

The collection left out the FN Browning 1910 with Brausch Silencer (brand name), in Dr. No, , ,when he waits up all night waiting , playing cards solitare, he shoots his would be assassin with a hammerless FN Browning 1910, then screws off the silencer, and blows out the smoke. (I suppose this was maybe a prop man's substitution, it's not mentioned, , , ,but it's obvious, and predates the use of a PPK)
@TCFan30
@TCFan30 5 жыл бұрын
Since it was a substitute, as the armorour didn't have a silencer to fit the PP it was probably left out for that reason. Also you see JB switching between the PP and a M1911A1 whilst shooting at the dragon tank.

Bond did not use a ppk in dr no he used a walther pp which proceeded the ppk but stayed in production for many years alongside the ppk I know it is called a ppk in the movie but trust me if you look back at the film you will see bonds pistol in dr no has a slightly longer barrel and slide I only noticed by owning both a pp and ppk it is also shown well on imfdb’s web page for dr no

I noticed (even in the DVD version) he uses an FN pistol to shoot Dent (obviously because of the silencer issue) and also due to continuity error switches between a 1911A1 and Browning HP when shooting the 'Dragon'.

Now you're on to a subject where I am very comfortable: firearms. I began shooting at an early age and bought my first rifle, a .22 World War II training rifle, at age 10. I shot in the military and got my first concealed carry license when I became a private investigator in the 1980s. I carry a firearm every day now and as I have stated before I wear my shirts a bit looser than most men do so that I can conceal my handgun well. I have a shooting range at my home, a 60 acre farm in Virginia and shoot whenever I am able to according to my migraine. Like other regular shooters, I did notice that you don't appear to be an expert with firearms, but then you never claimed to be an expert, David. Regardless, I enjoyed the video very much. I have never seen anyone else cover all of Bond related guns as well as you did here, David, very well done, Sir!. I really have enjoyed every single video from The Bond Experience!

Great clip again. It was really good to see the Beretta 418 being used, and it really showed why Ian Fleming chose it for Bond. Apart from it's size and modifications so it wouldn't snag on a soft Chamois Leather shoulder holster, there's virtually no recoil; it would be very easy to use by Bond at close quarters. The Walther PPK is more powerful but it has more recoil and perhaps less concealability when compared to the Beretta 418. I guess it would be a trade off between the two, but also Bond would have superior Pistol shooting skills so he would get the most our of the Beretta 418. Well done for shooting the Pistols too.

Hi guys, Im here in England so we are not allowed to own or use real hand guns, so it is entertaining and informative to see you give the demonstrations, thanks for posting the video, and yep you should have arrived in an Aston Martin of some kind!! As a point of interest, in the first James Bond film Dr No, and the first time Bond uses a silencer/suppressor on a gun is in a scene where he is waiting for villain Professor Dent to come to his bedroom and try and kill Bond while he is asleep. Anyway in that scene Bond attaches a silencer to a gun which we are to assume is his PPK, but it is actually a Browning FN 1910. You can see the top of the FN script in the handgrip in a close up. This is documented in various Bond fan books, speculation as to why Connery used the Browning in this scene rather than the PPK is that a blank firing PPK did not produce enough blowback with a silencer to re cock the gun, I don't know whether that is true or not, I guess you guys at The Bond Experience would be able to shed light on that possibility. Incidentally Richard Burton in the movie "Where Eagles Dare" uses the same Browning 1910 with silencer, it might even be the same prop as both movies were filmed in England. On a more sombre note it was a Browning 1910 FN that was used to assassinate ArchDuke Franz Ferdinand which resulted in the First World War in Europe.

The presenters have made some serious omissions. I have read every Ian Fleming novel in chronological order and they have left out three guns Ian Fleming mentioned. Along with the Beretta and the Walther, Bond also had a Smith & Wesson Centennial Airweight in .38 spec. Fleming also mentioned Bond's "pillow gun" was a Colt Police Positive in .38 spec. and Bond had cut the barrel off to avoid possible snagging when pulling it out from under his pillow. Finally, Fleming mentioned Bond kept a Colt Army Special in .38 spec. with a 6" barrel in the glove compartment of his Bentley. I hope the presenters will read this and make corrections in their future videos of "James Bond's guns".

Great subject and clip, yes Pistol handling skills (safety) have already been mentioned, but it wasn't too bad, many likely do worse. I also liked the tracksuits, they really looked the part for both of you (plus the watches), although there's a small continuity error in that one you changed clothes when showing us the Pistols...And lastly a small point, it would be nice if you put simple titles showing the names of the Pistols (and their calibre) when explaining them and again when firing them (as you say what they are, etc) as the audio / sound is a bit "echoey".

As for the Beretta that Bond surrenders in the movie 'Dr No', is there any Information about which model it was? One site I found called it a 1934 Beretta (9mm Corto), but pictured a 1935 Beretta (7.65mm). Except for the caliber markings, they look identical. There's no description of the model in the movie, except the armourer condemns it as having "no stopping power" - a ludicrous statement as either Beretta has the same or more stopping power than the PPK, and the Beretta 7.65 magazine carries more rounds than the PPK. ( I suspect the script was taken from the novel where Bond surrenders a 418 Beretta 6.35 mm.)

Also the Beretta is now my backup piece after some testing. It's really quite a great gun. In spite of the scene in Dr. No (plus, I mean c'mon, Bond would know, right? 10 years on the job and he hadn't fucked up with it yet!)

Forgot the Walther P38/P1 that Bond carried when sneaking up on GoldFingers Factory, which was taken from him and used by his Prison Guard and taken back. Also forgot the S&W 36 .38 Special borrowed by Bond in Diamonds Are Forever.

I have a suggestion for a new James Bond gun, an upgrade from the classic Walther PPK. Try the (relatively) new Remington R51- the silhouette MATCHES the PPK, but upgrades to 9mm from the .380- sleek, metal, feels good in the hand and still elegant... : )

13:00 - I know he is expecting it to go "pfff, pfff" just like the movies. Yes, he figured it out 13:37 LOL. It is funny watching him jerk the trigger instead of slowly squeezing it. I'd have thought Ray would correct him on that. And he is surprised nearly every time when it empties. The slides back and yet he is jerking the trigger one or two more times.

In "Quantum of Solace", which pistol(s) did Bond and Camille use in Bolivia (in the Hydrogen-powered hotel)? Was it also a SIG-Sauer 226? She had to field strip hers, because "the slide was sticking" . . .

I think I've seen the gun IDed as an older Sig-Sauer P210, which would probably be cranky to use if not cared for. Pricey and accurate but a gun that's not manufactured anymore.

Nice, what a fun video! Don't forget Bond also uses the SIG-Sauer P226 to great effect at the end of Quantum (You and I had a mutual friend!) Which one was your favorite?

Amazing the .25 auto didn't malfunction which even beloved open top slide Beretta's (in .25 & under) normally do. I sold my PPK .380 because of that slide bite. Other than that it was an excellent pistol. It never jammed, was accurate and a perfect choice for pre 1980's deep conceal carry. Never handled a P5 but heard rave reviews by credible shooters. Jetfire regresses back to a lady's gun. LP5 eye candy. P99 another excellent and realistic choice for 007 although big. Owned 2 Cheetahs again a little big but great firearms. H&K also excellent. IMHO Modern day 007 would carry the SIG P365. It checks all the spy guy boxes. Good vid, David. btw you handled the P99 better than the Glock.

If you're getting slide bite it means you're holding the gun too high or incorrectly.

Clarification: Since the 1968 Gun Act would not apply to a British Secret Agent, he would not have to use a PPK/S.

The issue he is having with the recoil has a lot to due with his use of of a teacup grip. Its hard to control with a small snappy gun. He has watched to may old movies! LOL.
