They combated most of potential cost by simply planning it out and using natural lighting at certain time of day.

I like the detail that the zombie apocalypse is mostly boring. It makes sense. Zombies aren't reproducing, killing them is gonna reduce their numbers. They have to have an expiration date just by following the laws of physics unless it's something supernatural. There's also a lot of the earth that has very few people around.

I have a love-hate relationship with zombie apocalypse movies because of the reasons you've stated. On one hand unless suddenly majority of the population turned into zombies, or the zombies were more like the ones from 28 days later it should be pretty boring, I cannot think of a plausible scenario where the military loses to anything other than the rage zombies and even then it's a stretch. However, I don't think those "realistic" zombie scenario movies would get pretty stale pretty fast, I already dislike how humans are of course the biggest threat in most zombie movies and this would only make it worse

Yeah but zombie virus variations can be wildly different. In this movie, the zombies seem pretty tame and government should easily be able to quarantine the outbreak. However if the zombies could run and do other stuff, shit gets nasty, something like World War Z type of thing.

@@LoLaSn Zombies that are dead would have expiration dates. If all people turn when they die of any cause that could create a lot of chaos, but if they only turn when bitten then it would likely die out quickly. Zombies that aren't dead but mutated/controlled by a virus would be different as if they are still alive they wouldn't rot away. Mutations could also provide zombies with an extra edge to help them bring down large military operations. Left for dead zombies are a good example i think; they aren't walking dead but more controlled by a virus. The virus in L4D also causes a variety of strong Mutations.

Damn Ben is the perfect but also realistic survivalist. Mickey is a fool without emotional intelligence, stuck in adolescence. I like this because it shows two types of real people that very much exist today. Note how they were both well functioning members of society and were even friends before the apocalypse, because modern society equalized these traits. Great story.

Entertainment and stimulation are actually extremely important in survival situations, to the point where most survival guides for being lost in woods or stranded at sea offer suggestions for how to keep yourself amused. That being said, Mickey is a manchild who is ONLY concerned with having fun and ignoring the crisis around him, making him the king of all liabilities.

I feel like zombies being just dumb corpses would be more realistic if they don't have the same if not slower motor skills than living people and couldn't run because that part of the brain has died off and that's why they can't open doors or climb. It would have been so much better if Mickey realized what needed to be done and for once wouldn't be useless dead weight. In that moment of showing Ben the bite, Mickey lures the zombies away from Ben so he can make his way out and away from the danger.

During emergency situations emotional people are the most dangerous, Ben should not have babied Mickey so much because he never learned how dangerous things were. Mickey was a terrible friend to the end and a helpless idiot. Ben was also crazy because he should have tried recruiting the random guy to join them because a new addition to the team would have helped the dynamic Ben would have gained another survivor who could help him and Mickey would have gained another person to talk to but Ben just shot him.

While I think both of these characters were over exaggerated. The dichotomy of their personalities would have made for a good survivalist pair. One with his nose to the ground always on the alert and with survival at the front of his mind. The other seeking humanity and belonging. If this was written better, it would actually be a very good story

I had this idea for a movie like 15 years ago except it was at the start of the apocalypse and main character is alone and breaks his leg and winds up taking shelter in a car. I have adhd and just moved on coming back to think about the hypothetical plot once in a while but never acted on it, oh well.

I feel that everyone views it as that "Ben was right, Mickey was dead weight to begin with", but to me his death was more sad because he didn't want him to go or die, he really wanted them both to last and was tried hard to help him learn. It's a commonly sad case in most zombie stories that someone who cant let go of the "old world" wont last in the new one
