Hey everyone! I recently learned a very hard lesson in Sea of Thieves that had cost me lots of gold and rep and for that, I wanted to explain to you what the lesson was if you ever decided to PVP and wanted some easy gold.

TL:DR: Don't let your abilities let you get cocky. Even the newest of newbies can sink you if you get cocky. Never underestimate their ability, and always play to your best ability no matter the enemies skill level.

Especially in sea of thieves. After all, this game isn’t designed in a way where mechanical skill superiority will guarantee you a win (like some other games).

in any potential SoT battle situation, I always play conservatively and assume I'm out manned, out gunned and out skilled. More often than not this isn't the case, but the mentality helps a lot in winning or even making effective tactical retreats.

Ever since the captaincy update I've been dressing my ships to match the theme of the name. However, other than using the DA sales and wearing some of the DA clothing I don't like advertising to enemies that I'm PL because it makes them more likely to underestimate me. I like the DA clothes because they say PL while being subtle enough that an enemy may miss the fact. Before the DA stuff, I used to run the legend of Thieves Haven costume (which looks good with the gold curse) for the same reason.

exactly. it's such a good tactic, like server hoppers that used to not put any cosmetics on their ship when sailing because it was too much time.

@@wornoutsneaker there were many times I got lazy and didn't put any cosmetics on my ship either because I wasn't sure what I wanted to put on or because I couldn't see most of my cosmetics in the box. Rare does need a page in the ship box for applying full ship sets so that we don't need to run through 20 pages when we want to apply a particular set.

a few legend cosmetics will go under peoples radars if they arnt legends them selves, the da stuff is a good example, the belt and shirt are subtle, the beard just seems like a well modeled beard and thats it, and unless you have a keen eye, the hat and coat may be second thought, but i know some people who still believe in the stereotype "pirate legends always run/dont know how to fight" but that specific stereotype seems to only apply to people who use the title and the entire ugly purple outfit, so if you like breaking the mind of people who follow that stereotype, go purple!

Only legend clothing I wear is the belt and the only other thing giving away my time spent on the game is I wear the title skull keeper. It was from the fort of the damned update and was limited time. Only if they know what the title is might they know I have been playing a long time. (Since anniversary)

oh, i feel that, the most common mistake i see is when im on a brig and we need repairs and buckets, after it fills to half, too many people just say "we are beyond recovering!" and just try to go all in on cannons, when even 1 other person helping would turn the tide when i first got into the game, i made it a habit when i lost, to always think what i did in the last moments that i could have done differently, and i can remember many battles that i lost due to me just doing something wrong, which helps me always get just a little better next time... i even remember my first battle while solo, i lost from fixing instead of bucketing while the enemy crew was hammering my hull right where i was, which taught me, grab a couple buckets and try to get them off cannons or i will be stuck there

i have been playing since just a while before seasons, and while i may expect inky krakens to be toxic and people decked out in full ashen cosmetics to be over confident, i never judge skill from cosmetics alone because for the longest time i stuck with hunter and bone crusher cosmetics ONLY because i liked the look, i was using the 2 well after i became pirate legend and still would be had i not gotten some new stuff that i love

What went wrong is you left your ship and the mermaid let you down big time. Mermaids are horrible when you’re relatively close to your ship. Then your ship sank. Solos can’t be leaving the ship with more than a single lower deck hole. You need holes in their ship and to slay their crew possibly twice while your ship is in a safe spin with no more than a single tier 2 lower.

This kinda happened to me one time, me and my friend sunk a galleon as a sloop and got there guild flag but we noticed that they were afk for 30 minutes and finally started going after us, turns out they all left and had there other friends attack us and we sunk

Had a fight where I think the opponents did this to me. I rolled up on a sloop right after winning an HG battle (im not that good so just a win is a confidence boost) As soon as I got close I got shot by the fort and their ship was moving. So it was a duo and I spotted DA sails while the HG active. "Ohh man, I guess this wont be easy" was my thought. These guys were some sweats. Had 2 storage crates, 2 cannon crates and a wood crate on a sloop. We exchanged shots and maneuvered but in the end I ended up winning. No way I won based on some big play. They just messed up and probably thinking "whos this chump rolling up on us?".

ooh! that reminds me, like a few weeks ago i found a small streamer on twitch who was literally like 2 days into the game, he got on a brig with some buddies of his, but first i joined and plopped down a gilded voyage for them just for the fun of it, a duo with either a 2 or 3 win streak in the hour glass came at them and started giving them some trouble, and this crew of swabbies took out some proper sweat lords just because they used the weirdest tactics i have seen that only a swabbie could come up with! its always amazing seeing sweat loose to swabbie in those ways, i was sure they would sink with their haul

LoL, I`ve sunk so many sweaty pirates using Athena cosmetics simply because I got a lucky cannonball shot and they got launched off their boat, just 1 lucky ball can end a fight.

That’s a rare event? I just started playing this game and for the first 4 days playing I’ve run into over 5 of those events. I’ve only cleared them a couple times tho since I usually play solo

This loss was not due to underestimating your opponent, it was due to your mistakes. But still, never underestimate your opponent HAHA. If you played that right it wouldve been cake.

i really dont understand, but ashen winds is one of the most common world events with insane money for the amount of time it takes to do, but i see people avoid it like the plague, even without disney sticks a solo can do one in maby 20 minutes if they keep dying
