I have bought a good amount of raw cards on eBay. I found out very quickly. Never buy from any of the "LCS" or "Collectible" names with a ton of sales. They pre-screen all their cards. If they are clean and solid, they will send them to get graded. If they have any blemishes, they just post them on eBay and say that they are in "ungraded condition" or some other vague BS. They will manipulate the picture so that light is glaring or reflecting off any possible defect or flaw. Much better off sticking to your like average Joe that is much less likely to be screening their cards.

The eBay listing usually says Near mint or better which states "Comparable to a fresh pack. Flaws may include: Minor corner and edge wear". So, if you read the listing and click on the circled i, it should show this info. If the card says it is Excellent it is actually worse than NM. Same with Very Good (worse than NM). Buying raw cards is hit or miss. Some people only buy graded cards from PSA, SGC, or CGC instead of raw.

i buy from ebay because i am an introvert and doing deals in person gives me anxiety. i also sell on ebay and while i use the same description in all my listings, i also mention that if they want more pictures to ask and i will oblige. so the buyer has some responsibilty to do their due diligence.

Whole industry is a sham

Grading is the reason I stopped buying and selling sports cards years ago. Especially as someone who doesn't bother grading. I knew it was getting bad when I automatically put in the description "has minor scratches" for every chrome card I listed, whether it had them or not... just to stave off the return queens.

Here's another piece of advice: 1. Contact the seller, let him/her aware you are interested(don't take price at this time) and simply request more photos of the areas of concern. If they don't respond back, then simply move on, as they were clearly attempting to hide flaws. But, if they send you pictures, it actually kills two birds with one stone: First, it let's the seller know you are interested. Then, it makes the seller aware that YOU are "thoroughly" inspecting the card, so they would know to make you aware of any flaws whatsoever. In essence it keeps the seller on their toes. Plus, a Bonus benefit is, your eBay messages with the seller are there for eBay o see and read, should you purchase the card and it has unannounced flaws. Trust me, i have used that to my advantage quite a few times, but being thorough, precise, diligent and "patient" in the beginning has made these situation far and few in between.

Don’t buy chrome cards on eBay. People know how to angle cameras to hide print lines

Here's some advice: If you open a claim with eBay and they refuse to side with you, just hang up and call again, until you get someone who isn't just trying to brush you off and get you off of the phone. Back from '08-'10, when eBay would side with buyers, regardless of the issue, which forced me to get off of eBay for ten years, I would always get eBay reps, who just didn't care. But, in 2020, when i got back into the hobby(full time) and started selling, eBay's customer service had did a complete 180 and I literally had 37 scammers, try to scam me(both selling and buying) an eBay sided with me 100% of the time and even kicked a few sellers and buyers off of eBay.

The pictures were lacking and that’s on the seller, but it’s also important as a buyer to avoid listings that don’t clearly show the cards condition - including corners. Genuine question and I mean this respectfully - NM by PSA standards is a 7-10, the reality is this would likely get somewhere in that rating. Is that not what you bought? From a sellers perspective, seems like many people buy a NM card and complain when it’s not mint / won’t grade a 10.

They are forced to take a return if item is not as described and doesn't matter what they say if it is not as described.

It’s doesn’t matter if they don’t accept returns but eBay will force them to accept. Just enter a return send pics of the damage and they will refund.

If the card has a visible flaw that the seller does not disclose, and the card is listed as NR MT, it doesn't matter if the seller "accepts" returns. That constitutes "item not as described" and they have no choice but to accept the return. They also have to pay for your return shipping expenses.

I would have ran as far away from this card, especially for a seller who has sold over five million items and has over one mil, lion reviews for the mere fact that the scan, especially the lighting was poor resolution. That's something one expects from a neophyte or novice seller, but from a seller, who has obviously been around for years, even decades to NOT have a better resolution picture(s) would have immediately told me they were trying to hide something. Plus, it's NOT your responsibility to determine when or how the card was damaged or if they hide the damage. The fact of the matter is the card was "NOT AS DESCRIBED." So, regardless of whether or not they accept returns, YOU have a right to open a claim with eBay and get your money back.

Started buying and selling cards on eBay is a GRIND! Selling sucks because it’s the best place to sell but the fees are BRUTAL

I am 100 percent honest on cards I sell, if it has a print line I say so, but mostly I don't even bother listing those cause I don't want issues and have a perfect rating.

Probstein is garbage, DC Sports and Burbank are way worse in my experience, there come a point when you get to large as a seller to actually give an F about what you sell....in the sense that they may not have time (or the desire) to accurately list cards. In my experience all of these huge consigners are trash, will accept anyone's trash to sell and should be avoid at all costs, for raw cards. Whenever I see raw listings from any of these three clown companies I won't even click on it.

Win some lose some all part of the game. You can always return the card if the description doesn't match the condition

No matter if the listing says no returns or refund you are still a saved by the eBay buyer guarantee policy. You have 3 days from delivery of the item to request a refund. You need to take a picture of the issue and file a claim. If the seller did not disclose an issue put that in the message. I have always received a refund from seller if there is an issue like that. Hope this helps.

I've heard that even if a seller says they do not accept refunds, you can call up ebay and press them and get a return. I offer free returns for this reason.

you bought a raw card from p..bstein? that is a big no no. The only reason that store isnt banned is because he is a major shareholder of ebay.

Even as someone who has only been back in the hobby for 6 weeks, I was able to figure out who you bought the card from. you didn't do a great job of hiding the seller's identity. my guess is the card was damaged somewhere between the time the photos were taken for the listing until the time you made the video. if you live "PSA 10 or bust," these are the chances you take. As others have said, "near mint or better" is a 7, 8, 9, or 10 and it seems you have that.

ebay sides with the buyer. Ive been a buyer/seller for over 20 years. As others have said, mark it as "not as described". They have to take it back. Dont mail it back until ebay tells you too and a shipping label is provided by them.

I bought Slabs from Prob before, they usually come scratched. I stay away of getting raws from them. I buy raws from Murozond, they usually list all the flaws of the cards honestly.

Per eBay guidelines, the most significant flaw will anchor the condition of the card. That corner dent does not meet the standard. First contact the seller about returning it for refund and if that goes nowhere then file an INAD. No returns mean nothing when Item Not As Described is filed. Pictures and scans never show flaws very well.

Happens a lot unfortunately. I hate thise big consignment sellers cause they use their cookie cutter description for every item. You would need to send them questions on whatever item youre looking to bid on to get any sort of assurance. To be able to just say, "look at the pics, this is what you're bidding on"...is total bs...most of the time scanners dont provide enough detail to be able to determine condition. Just be careful on ebay. If youre not sure, make sure you contact seller.

You had a three day return window because the item was not as described. Sellers cannot back out of a return if you claim item not as described. Ive had to do it before on non returnable listings and won the case and got to keep item with a refund.

I buy about 95% of my cards on Ebay. Why? It is easier looking for what I want instead of searching card shows and shops. All of my cards are raw. I bought a few slabs and all of them were PSA 8 or less. I don't really care to sell them, this is for my PC collection and they are basically for display purposes. In fact, the cards that I got on slabs have really no value to anyone unless you collected those cards during the junk wax era. The era of my childhood. The thing I buy is vintage baseball cards (1960 or before) and IP autos of the junk wax era 1987-1993. All of my autos are not authenticated but it doesn't matter to me. I am not selling them. I guess I can brag that I have a Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Judge and soon I will have mutliple Mike Trout and Ohtani's autos on cards next week.

Never had an issue buying cards from eBay-I only buy graded slabs. I will not buy raw cards.

I take high resolution pictures on my ebay account. It takes me countless hours to do it but I want my customers to see the quality of the card they are purchasing. And also...do not buy any card that only has photos of the card in the sleeve. Even if the description says gem mint. All my cards are outside the penny sleeves and you can even see lint on it.

Something that glaring has to be disclosed. Of course it could have happened during packaging, but that is still on the seller. You are covered through eBay. The seller may not have to refund your money, but eBay will.

All this video tell me is you dont know how to buy, unfortunately. If you want clean cards buy from me! I'm one of the few sellers left on Ebay that doesn't grade and is always selling very gradable sports cards. I take great photos and if anything is wrong with a card you will see it on the photos or on the description. Best of luck!

I bought a Pavel Bure PSA 8 card off eBay and just got it today. It was only 20 dollars but as soon as I looked at it I noticed a faint mark in the top white part of the card. This mark was not shown on the images provided by the seller. I had to look the card number up on the PSA site and zoom in on that area of the card to see it. I'm really disappointed.. These faint marks are hard to see in pictures but are really noticeable in person. I left the guy a bad review because he obviously blurred that part out somehow on the picture he provided and didn't mention any mark in the description.

A dinged corner should have been noted, but a seller who sells a lot of cards is probably not going to look over every card they sell. But a card of that stature should have been looked over. Assume raw cards are 8-9s, and if you grade them and get a 10, then you got lucky! IF PEOPLE WANT 10'S, THEN BUY 10'S! Don't blame sellers as nobody purposely ruins a card. . . quality control of many cards fresh from packs sucks! Customer service for exchanging these damaged cards sucks as well! Everyone all the way up the chain takes risks!

The reason Ebay stinks all in one video. Reason I always put Very Good in condition. I have cards that looked like a 10 and got an 8, same in reverse. People will start suing PSA soon over grading standards.

Thats because eBay provides free of most labor, eabay honestly needs to be held accountable, i will say if some1 uses product stock photos from another site that seller on eabay gets charge an absurd "gallery photo" fee, but none the less eBay is aiding with schiesters selling on ebay that do not need to be their, ebay "says" they are trying to clean out all the bad sellers & keep the reputable 1's, so whats the incentive for reputable sellers ?, like we deal with shyty buyers all the time & eBay more times than not sides with them, so what was the incentive for reputable sellers again, not most items sold or completed sales but reputable , c'mon eaby stop with the were sorry & that you understand show, JUST BE BETTER, ALL MONEY AINT GOOD MONEY !

Yup. Bought ken griffey jr on auction. I think paid 70 something. Nicely centered. Sharp corners and there was a crease on th middle left from it being in a binder. It wasn't disclosed. Contacted the seller and never got a reply. Never again. What a shite.

Never buy raw from Probstein expecting pristine product

Couple things here. 1. Don't buy a scanned card if you can't handle the gamble. 2. Ask for corner pics. 3. Wanting someone to fo the job for you then getting upset it's not what it's made out to be... should've been you're lesson. If every card that was listed as mint or didn't post flaws graded a 10 then the business would be easy. It's like a used car salesmen... you gotta know what to buy and you have to know how to sell it... don't blame someone for not doing the job for you.

They probably damaged it when they slide it back in the holder. Yes they are horrible at communications and ebay let's them do what they want.

It's absolutely ridiculous that these sellers list cards as near mint or better when the card is full of flaws. eBay needs to crack down on this. I always leave negative feedback when this happens, regardless if returns are accepted or not and I always file an item not as described claim with eBay.

I sell cards on eBay and honestly that's not really an honest mistake. As a seller I am very aware of the condition of the cards and it sucks but when it's not in good condition you have to post that information. You weren't really doing a service to anybody by blocking out the name at the very least you need to leave a firm but fair review so other people can be made aware including the seller.Just my two cents Good luck with your collection

I've never really had a bad experience buying cards on eBay. I'm just incredibly cheap and picky before I make decisions.
