Filmed on July 5, 2024. Sweet corn is where it all started for me back in the early nineties earning money for college. It is my favorite crop to grow, harvest and sell to this day. Many more sweet corn videos to come this summer, enjoy!

Yeah, I have friends that use a harvester for the sweetcorn but it cost over $100,000 and you gotta be set up to sort all the junk that gets picked along with the good corn so it’s still a lot of work. I have other friends who grow 250 acres of corn and handpick all of it, nearly 8000 dozen every day at 2 AM under floodlights with migrant labor.

When we travel, I always stop at farmstands and see what they’re charging for similar items that we grow. We have a large Amish community in our area here in Ohio, I believe it is the second largest in the nation behind Lancaster. We’ve been holding steady at nine dollars a dozen, and no one has said a word yet, I think people are finally realizing that farmers have to raise the prices too.

Over 10,000 ears of corn just seems insane. But, I guess, when u have 6 plus places to sell at in one day, it's a necessary evil. Also makes perfect sense, when u say by October, I r just done. Those 4 am mornings would b a killer, and knowing that u don't have much of a reprive until the season is done, would b mentally taxing. It takes special ppl to do what u do. And I'm sure, all the ppl u r feeding, thank u regularly. Thx for the video

Thanks for the comment Eric. About eight years ago when I finally had my business where I wanted it I was looking for a new challenge and I took up backpacking which ultimately lead to FKT‘s, which stands for Fastest Known times, which are speed records on trails as well as ultra racing . But to relax I enjoy kayak camping and RV camping and long distance backpacking. I have another channel dedicated to all of these things, but maybe I’ll bring it up in a farming video sometime. Yes, one day a week to relax is not enough, Sundays go by so quickly and then it’s always time to do it all again, thank goodness it’s seasonal, I would go insane if I had to do this year around

Do you have a list of customers that buy in bulk amounts to handle the left over corn, like other farmers market stores that sell during the week, small grocery stores or bulk foods stores?
@wishwellfarms
@wishwellfarms Ай бұрын
We have a few Wholesale customers, but whatever corn I can’t sell the following Monday will either get taken to the food bank or thrown out because after that, it’ll start losing its flavor and there’s more better corn that needs picking. I used to wholesale to a grocery store chain and had about 11 stores within an hour drive of me, but with the growth of farmers markets, we let those go except the local one in our town.

Good question I should have elaborated on that a little bit more. Any cord that was on display at the farmers markets will not be re-sold and either taken to a food bank or thrown out. Corn that never came out of the truck will often still be somewhat cold, and we will be able to sell some of it on Monday, but after that, we throw it out and move on to fresher pickings.

All the Hard work and years of sales doesn't make anything healthy, not even the taste-test makes it intrinsically "healthy". It means it can be sold, that's all. The carpet bombed toxins on the fields are not gone with the weeds that quickly died while the Gmo corn thrives! All the carpet bombed toxins are part of the finished products. And, you call yourself a No-Till farmer? I respect the years of hard work as a dedicated owner operator! Good tasting raw sweet corn is still GMO crops at best. He may occasionally use no-till methods in some situations, but he does not promote his farm as being 100% no-till. Growing certified organic fruits and vegetables on this scale is very difficult to do profitably. Labor costs are much too high to have employees out there pulling weeds by hand.
