The Haunting of Hill House Cast (Michiel Huisman, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Elizabeth Reaser) on Mike Flanagan and the Incredible 6th Episode
By now you’ve probably heard the incredible buzz on one of Netflix’s newest shows: The Haunting of Hill House. The ten-episode series, based on Shirley Jackson’s iconic horror novel of the same name, was created, directed, and executive produced by Mike Flanagan, whose credits include Oculus, Gerald’s Game, and Ouija: Origin of Evil. The story explores a group of siblings who grew up as children in what would become the most famous haunted house in the country. Now adults, the family must come face to face with their past in a very ghostly way.
Shortly before the series premiered, I got to sit down with Michiel Huisman, Oliver Jackson-Cohen and Elizabeth Reaser for an exclusive video interview after seeing the first few episodes. They talked about getting to work with Mike Flanagan and Netflix, how much they knew about the arc of the season before filming began, memorable moments from filming, how they shot the sixth episode (which was shot like a play with extremely long takes), the autopsy scene with the graphic blood and guts, and more.
While there are a lot of great choices on Netflix right now, I absolutely recommend checking out The Haunting of Hill House. It’s extremely well done and absolutely worth your time. The series also stars Carla Gugino, Timothy Hutton, Henry Thomas, Kate Siegel and Victoria Pedretti, Lulu Wilson, Mckenna Grace, Paxton Singleton, Violet McGraw, and Julian Hilliard.

Oliver Jackson Cohen attended the French High School in London, his father was born in Egypt and spend a lot of time in France, that's where he caught his accent. It's pretty funny to hear

The way the show took 'haunted' as a metaphor for mental issues. And the way they dove into the family dynamic. This traumatized but also very close family. Everyone dealing with a horrible past in their own way. That just brought it home. Gave the characters so many layers. It was great, binged the whole thing when I had a deadline going. Wasnt my best choice ever but I just couldn't stop watching.

You gotta admit how genius the idea when in funeral home they were arguing, it was raining, the lights out and then suddenly Nell's coffin dropped. Just imagine if it was in the real life that would be terrifying. Jumpscare without involving a ghost. I love horror movie like this, not with monster, not involving gore or unnecessary sex scene.

actors don't typically toss around spoilers this early on after a release of a show anyway so even if he had seen it it wouldn't have made a difference. I think he did a fine job and they had a bunch of interesting stuff to say regardless

it depends on the amount of interviews you do a week and how much money that generates for you. if you need to do at least 5-6 and do other work on the side because otherwise you can't afford your house (or because it isnt viable for a business) then you have to find middle ground and then you can't watch every show before you do the interview. it's not optimal. but making money tends to neccesitate compromises.

It wasn't even a good interview regardless. The guy says "I gotta go"... Like are you fucking kidding me? You have the stars of the most popular show on Netflix in front of you and you rudely say "I gotta go". Not to mention only watching 2 episodes. Unreal.

How she described what it was like to prepare and shoot episode 6... I noticed when watching it how much it looked like a play. And it really stood out in the one scene in particular, where Carla sits with kids on the steps, having that dialogue with all of them about the hot chocolate. I was so impressed by that, and thought they were all absolutely fantastic

Everything about this series is absolutely amazing. I haven't been this enthralled by a piece of work in years, and I'm not even a huge fan of horror! The casting, the writing, the acting, the production of it all is just unrivaled. 10/10 MASTERPIECE can't wait for season 2 (maybe?)!!!

Amazing series. Amazing acting/actors. Every episode was a story and the last apology/eulogy had me crying. A must watch. If I didn’t have Netflix I would get it just to watch this show. I don’t have enough breath in my body for the praise I want to give it. 👍x1,000,000

YES! YES! YES! I was sobbing. 😫😥😭😭 I cried when Abigail began to get sick. Wicked! I cried as Liv kept saying they were all awake and finally home. And I cried when Huge said Goodbye after making his promise to Olivia. But I couldn't stop crying when Abigail's parents said for Huge to keep the house. And then when Horace carries Clara back into the house for her last breath! Nothing I've watched except for The Walking Dead episode when Maggie's husband Glenn meets Lucille, 😱😵😭or Game Of Thrones The Red Wedding episode 😱😭😭😭has moved me of like this, or captivated my attention! Exceptional show!! Such outstanding actor's!! I really enjoyed it! Now for tonight's final episode of GoT!! I've dreaded this for weeks now but after last week, and considering what Kit Harrington said about the final episode, I absolutely dread saying saying goodbye to those actors and the outstanding stories they brought to me every week! It's going to be so quiet and strange after tonight! Quite honestly, I'd watch it all over again! 😍🤗😘😎

To me, this was more of a drama then a horror. Some episodes made me feel so uncomfortable because it felt so real. The horror aspect is well done tho. Most of the movies and series today are just cheesy jumpscares. The scary moments in this series didn't make me jump or something, but I could feel them in my stumach, which I prefer more then jumpscares. Not to talk about the car scene tho, I needed a breather after that one :')

This show is a stunning family drama with ghosts in it. I would call it a masterpiece. Doesn't mean it's perfect, but what they do is so well done. It's smart, it's creative, the way it's directed, the acting, the writing, those insane monologues they had. Mindblowing show.

they're not allowed to. these press junkets happen before the show is actually out and the interviewers typically only receive a couple episodes as a screener to watch before interviewing them.

In the end, I found it not to be a Horror movie, but a tragedy, a love story, a broken family, Psychosis, hallucinations, madness, addictions, codependency, and even though there's heartache, it was like this sadly beautiful reunion and acceptance. Yeah, the house is creepy as shit, but it also was gorgeous, elegant, stately & majestic. I loved the house with those stained glass Windows, the way the light would pour in. The grand & massive stairwell! Wow! The banister. I he way it swept up to the next landing. But, the best part of that house was that damned Spiral Staircase! It just went on & on & on! It reminded me of the original movie and that spiral staircase! I still hate that staircase to this day! Scares the dog-shit out of me! I keep seeing that bolt come loose, and watching it wobble. Just like in the 2nd Hill House movie. But the 1st one had the woman who goes mad opening that door at the top of the staircase, and her hair looks like Phyllis Diller. And that huge beautiful bed that slowly lowers its canopy on a sleeping quest, only to smother them. I feared giant four poster bed's with canopies for years! I know I was maybe 10 at the time I first saw it! And about 25 yrs later I saw I again. Remember that Lion Head for a knocker on the front door? Didn't it say "House for Sale" at the end? Phew! I'd love to live in a house like that today!! Only, maybe not at night, or with all the lights on! This version had me sobbing towards the last 2 episode's. Extremely well done! Outstanding!! And yes, those two guys are absolutely gorgeous!! Totally surprised by "Luke's" accent! Even the women were breath taking! Liv, Nell, - like confetti!, and Theo! Beautiful actor's & actress's. Absolutely riveting!

First started crushing on Oliver back when playing a big baddy on World Without End (2012). Never heard him play an American til this show and his accent in this series was flawless, but wasn't surprised (so many Brit actors and their insane talents at accents, ugh). And adored his other perfectly delivered accent in The Haunting of Bly Manor, which I watched before this

Mike Flanagan is such a creator, and I'm constantly pleased with how well Netflix understands creators and lets them breathe and realize their vision on their own. To be fair, it's why Netflix has some terrible exclusives, but more importantly, that's why Netflix also has some of the greatest exclusives of all time. When they're good, they're REALLY good, and it's all thanks to the way Netflix manages its creators.

I am not a horror fan, but I watched because everyone at work was watching. I really loved it. Fantastic series, but not that scary really. I thought at heart it was about family relationships. However, the mystery aspect made it a binge watch.

For someone who doesn't like watching horror, I have to say I enjoyed the show so much. It left me with emotional scars, sure, but again, I'm not used to scary shows. It is honestly well-made. Now, I'm just waiting for my boyfriend to come over so that I can finish the whole season. Yeah, I can't watch it alone. 😂

I read somewhere that people were fainting because of how scary it is ? That was a bit of a reach, it was nowhere near that level but it is Good! 8/10
