Two remotely operated vehicles, or ROVs, from the Edda Freya are working 1,000 feet below the surface. With limited visibility, they have to be careful not to get their cables entangled.

No, the tether supplies electrical power and fibre optics for video/survey/control not hydraulics. The electrical power does however drive a motor which drives a pump providing hydraulic power.

How much max power and volts can travel to the ROV at 30,000 FT? I'm assuming it must use AC voltage to travel at those insane distances.

@Josh I am currently in merchant marine career, marine engineer and I was planning to shift. I just wanted to know is this a good idea or not because I have to invest good sum of money. What do you think? If you are Indian one Indian company is currently hiring rov pilots please let me know but it is for indians only

@@inammir1979 look for trainee survey engineer positions, and go from there, will give you more options. Oceaneering are worth a look to

@Josh I was thinking about going down this career path.. since oil is becoming lessen and less in demand they say its a declining niche in my country But will rov pilots be replaced by robots eventually or? Are there other areas that need rov pilots?

@@inammir1979 and he couldn't be more wrong about this profession. Market in the ROV sector is on fire at the moment. Since ROVs are not only used in the oil and gas industry.
