I love the way the Horseman pauses to gently stroke Daredevil's muzzle before mounting. He might have been a bloodthirsty bastard, but even a bloodthirsty bastard can love something or someone... even if it's just a horse. It makes you realize that the horse is a SEPERATE ghost, and he is willingly with his master. Daredevil followed the Horseman and rose to his call when he did. The two truly are inseperable partners, in this life and the next.

He was under someone else's control. More likely he was fighting against her this whole time, but he's admittingly a man who loves battle and had done horrible things because he genuinely enjoyed it. He however seemed to know Katrina was genuinely innocent and all Ichabod was doing was protecting her, much like Brom. She may have looked a lot like his puppetmaster, but he never went after the Crone Witch either because despite being her twin, she just ran away from him, doing what he wanted her to.

In my opinion, the headless horseman was thanking them for giving him his head back and the curse was broken when he took her with him to hell or wherever they went to in the tree. If I were the headless horseman, I'd verbally say thank you all for my head, then I would rest for all the bad things I did willingly. Especially cutting off people's heads. The headless horseman was scary at first when I saw the movie in 2014, before graduation from high school. But overall, the movie is very good and I love the story of sleepy hollow.

I think in the story of the headless horseman he actually filed his teeth down to points. I guess they just didn't use the right kind of skull so they had to use CGI I guess to make them pointy

Soldiers from Hessia (now a western province of Germany) had quite a good reputation back in the day as tough and disciplined mercenaries, maybe that made its way into the story in this form. On that note, all male Hessians served in the military for a minimum of 24 years (!) so they probably earned that reputation, even if things weren't as exaggerated as in this folk tale.

I've always loved the scene. Walken is perfect for this (not ironic) The headless horseman is not an massive Schwarzenegger kind of man. He was soldier / mercenary, that was so vile/mean/effective that he created a legend around himself. Came to America not for gold or for fame but for just the pure thrill of bloodshed, (kind of a khorne follower). Died a brutal death by beheading (which was his thing). With his own sword ! And became a restless spirit which was manipulated. You can see the character Walken puts into it though. He's barely on screen in the film. But both where he looses his horse in the first flashback and feels for it! To the end where he gives a reaction smile after he gains his head back and re-mounts his stead.

Funny thing about this scene ,he simply could have thrown the evil witch into that hell portal and made amends for doing the Witches bidding for all that time , ,after he tosses her into open portal he could turn around and say " hey I've been through enough hell already , I'm gonna live life and help this village" , , , ,after all he was forced by magic to do those killings , , ,😎👍👍

If I had to guess magic is tied to the person who cast the spell in the first place. If she died, the magic she used to reanimate the horseman would have been undone. He probably figured, if I’m going to hell, I might as well take you with me.
