I think most don't have a problem with your version of the 996 headlight. Its the original version many don't like, I think they started in 1999-2001. I personally don't have a problem with either one, and I think the Turbo 996 and C4s to be really good looking cars.

We at Rennkit formerly sold the aftermarket headlights from Taiwan. The factory and sales team were difficult to deal with. We dropped the line due to so many customer complaints and poor factory support.

Man, I thought you were going to put one of those aftermarket covers on. Thank goodness you kept it OEM. I used to hate the 996 lights but they e really grown on me, especially the 996.2 aka Turbo style headlights.

i have a 996.1 and got a similar kit from retrofitlab. i love the new look. funny enough i had a similar problem you had with the wiring being bad and the headlights at first not working.

I think if you don't like 996 headlights - buy another model, I reckon. Get an early tiptronic 997! Great car. The 996 is absolutely the cleanest 911 design of all time, and the first all-new 911 in the car's history. Replacing the headlights is seriously damaging the future value of the car, and that's a fact. The 996 is a future classic, and prices will rise bigtime, but only on well maintained factory original cars. But you know, if you change 'em, that's just you as a human being deciding what you like! :)

You didn't mention which kit you got from retrofit or which bulbs you went with. Can you share that information in the description b/c I can't decide which bulbs to get - there are many choices.

It would have been nice to see a side by side comparison before you completed both headlights. I doubt that the difference was huge if you had cleaned the old one and installed modern bulbs.

Forget the headlights, fix those hideous tail lights dude! This has the exact same problem as my Audi A6. Stock projectors are cloudy, and reduce the light output.

Matt! Your projectors are made to RHD cars! The cutoff line goes the oposite way, look it on google RHD vs LHD Projector Headlights Cutoff Pattern and you’ll see what I’m talking about!!!

What's funny is when you said "Hey Google..." my home mini heard it and answered the question too and it echoed in the room.

It looks great but at 16:10, you've got RHD headlights on the car! When you drive on the right hand side of the road, the cutoff should be lower on the left hand side (so you don't blind oncoming drivers), and higher on the right hand side (so you see further in your own lane and the berm on your own side)...

I naively assumed that Porsches were built to a higher standard, but this video dispelled that myth, at least when it comes to electrical system. And those brittle plastics are all over the car, which pours cold water on the entire ownership proposition.

Need to do this on mine, it’s like driving around by candlelight, not fun!

Aftermarket Chinese headlights are not worth the money, 30%+ of the led’s will burn out in the first year and the lenses will deteriorate real quick. The covers for oem headlights (that are the better looking ones) will cover the front blinkers and are a bitch to remove. I have experience on both of these issues with my 986/996.

I love the looks of the 996 headlights. Porsche GT1 inspired.

unpopular opinion, i think that the facelift headlights from the 996.2 is beautiful. one of my favorites. i will agree that the 996.1 headlights looks bad.

Just had same wiring issue on my 996. Porsche repaired using liquid wiring insulation and advised one new headlight assembly was $3,700.00 and backordered to 2026.😳

Retrofitlabs bi xenon headlights are the only recommended upgrade. 😊

On my black 996 turbo with gt2 kit I painted the chrome parts inside the light metallic gunmetal grey. I thought it looked miles better….but never seen a cover or aftermarket light I like.

Nice car, love the color…my Maserati Gransport is a very similar yellow. Guards red on the 996 tho.. The wheels and tires on that truck…..yikes. And it’s a truck man.

Nobody ever mentions the ridiculous cost of an OEM replacement for 996 litronic headlights (£5,426 for the pair from Design 911 including UK VAT tax). Standard OEM (non-litronic) are much cheaper (£3.5k). Obviously everybody gets them polished instead to remove the yellowing then ceramic coats to try to prevent further yellowing but I wonder how many times this can be done before new lights are needed. I’ve polished mine twice already in 18 months. And they were ceramic coated. I also use an anti-UV cream which I’m hoping will prevent the yellowing from coming back.

Gone are the days when the bumper hung with zip ties, and launching this car off a cliff was a viable option. ❤

If not, would you share what kind or brand it is and where I might get one that looks like it Also, I have read that some of the aftermarket front clips are shown in pretty good condition, but actually need hours and hours of body shop work to be ready for paint to match Thanks Steve

Great production! Very well done. A couple of thoughts... First and foremost, its 'Por-shuh'. It isn't just some made up word for branding.... it's was and currently is someone's name. Just like anyone, we should try our best to pronounce peoples names correctly. Second, was this projector kit just replacing the lens (projector glass)? If so, I'm not sure it was an "upgrade"? Like you mentioned, the old lens were dirty. And maybe a good cleaning with new bulbs might have been the better solution. The spacers and hardware seemed a bit clumsy. Good catch on the wires. Thanks for sharing.

I hate to say this but the cut off is for a right hand drive car, you will have to lower the left headlight a bit to not blind oncoming traffic.. the cut off should step up going to the right if it were for right hand drive vehicles... overall nice upgrade though!

My E93 lead lights wiring did the same. Completely broke down and wire coating completely fell off. Another awesome video, really like all the funny things you do to make it more entertaining. I commend you on your persistent...I would have just driven it on sunny days! (No nights)

Those covers are so janky looking and really only draw more attention to the headlights. The black housing versions wouldn't look right on anything other than a black car IMO. The thing about 996 headlights is that the hate makes them great!

Porsche headlight wiring is badly designed. All of the wires in my 2004 Cayenne TT were the same as yours - insulation falling off on every wire. I had to replace each wire.

If someone doesn't like my 996 headlights, give me a second or two. I'll be out in front of them before they can really see. It's only my tail lights they will see, and not for long
