Today we embark on a thirty-two-week journey through the book of Romans. Considered to be Paul the apostle’s magnum opus, this book is largely responsible for igniting the fires of the Protestant Reformation and the Wesleyan Revival. As Paul introduced himself to the church at Rome, he got right to the heart and soul of the matter-the gospel-the good news that presents Jesus Christ as God’s great answer to the pressing need of the human race.
This teaching is from our series Heart & Soul: A Study through Romans with Skip Heitzig from Calvary Church.

I cannot begin to say how much I’ve learned from listening to Skip’s expository explanations of Scripture. I’m legally blind and have never been able to study with commentaries and now I feel like a whole new world has opened up to me. Thank you so much

where in your playlist i could see all this sermon about romans?
@dailysermons3466
@dailysermons3466 4 жыл бұрын
He says in the beginning of the sermon that Romans chapter one is “about the righteousness of God”, then spends half of the sermon in a history lesson about Paul’s righteousness, not God’s. Although He does say that the bible is God’s gospel, he doesn’t say it was created for Christ Jesus, and hardly mentions Christ at all until the last half of the sermon where Christ is not mentioned as the way to salvation. His knowledge of scripture is limited to his human understanding of Christ, not the Holy Spirits understanding. He provides many human examples to explain the gospel, instead of using Christ to explain His sacrifice for our sins. Thus, “Christ crucified” is not a theme that is mentioned and this man rather plays to the croud, as it were, telling them what their “tickling ears want to hear” (see below for more on this). The last half of the sermon is also a history lesson focusing more on the attributes of man, not God’s, as with all of his sermons on KZfaq. He does discus Jesus a little toward the end, but mostly in regard to the prophecies in the Old Testament concerning Christ, never really coming back to, or discussing the theme of Romans, and calling Paul a servant of God when in fact the gospel is about the “suffering servant”, Jesus Christ, who died for our sins. He fails to mention that Paul means nothing in the metaphysical context of God’s kingdom being preached, (Paul being just a man, and should not be the focus when reading the epistles. Even “good Catholics” preach what this man is saying, most of them would love this man’s sermons, at one point mentioning a “Christmas angel” in the sermon to make a tired point, CLAIMING that the “gospel has a cure for sin”. Ultimately and disturbingly, he strangely summarises the meaning of bible in what he describes as the meaning of the bible in “nutshell” (see below), or his interpretation of why the bible was written. There is no expository preaching here, just a man playing to the crowd using human examples to explain biblical truths. When he does provide his interpretation of the bible once again later in the sermon, he describes the meaning of the bible in “an even more smaller nutshell”, saying that the bible can be summed up in only 2 ways; 1.“to deal with sin”, and 2, “For Jesus to rule and reign with those that have been cleansed from sin”. “Thats the bible, that’s it”, he says, calling the bible God’s newspaper with good and bad news, CLAIMING that this is the point of scripture, IN ANOTHER ANOTHER SERMON he uses LEGO as a prop, and pictures of LEGO land to describe God’s design. In fact he uses the theories of man tirelessly and unashamedly. Don’t you get it! The scripture is Christ! And here lies the problem of human focused preachers living FOR and IN the world, and not for God, placing human limitations on scripture. This is the problem in “the church” which was created for, and is Christ - Christ being an example of “the living church.” Instead, today we have churches being filled with privileged, middle class, self-righteous, pharisaical Christians, who have no understanding of the Father and the Son, or the purpose of His “living word”, the gospel of “LIGHT”, or the “FATHER OF LIGHTS”. Lastly, if you skip (no pun intended) forward a few videos, and view his preaching on Romans 1:18-32, he only speaks on the “wrath of God coming against sin”, never mentioning the teaching in Romans on the evil of homosexuality, skipping the word completely! This is a man that does not wish to upset his congregation preaching to “tickling ears”, and is not faithful or obedient to the word. I suggest you move on from here and find a preacher who teaches on the “righteousness of God” and on Christ Jesus, not on the righteousness of men, as can be viewed in this church. The righteousness that is imparted to us, through Christ, is the fruit of faith and the “obedience to the faith” in the Son of God. A person who does not possess the Holy Spirit of God the Father will never understand this. Anyone who reads this comment I strongly urge you for the sake of the salvation of your souls, do a deep and profound study on 1, 2, and 3 John, and you will see a picture of what this church is, and will always be, and in that process you just may save your souls from this false preaching.

Based on what you’ve said it seems like you have identified some potential weakness here. However, I’d like to pushback on your criticism of using human examples. Jesus and Paul and countless other people in the Bible used human examples as a way of helping the audience better understand Biblical truth. It’s perfectly in scope for a pastor to use various means of communication to help his congregation understand the message based on his knowledge of the people with whom he’s speaking and their unique needs.
