It can operate as a standalone device but then you need the HomeKit version based on Apple's Home app. The Z-Wave version includes some automation features and then you'll need the Home Center to manage it and combine within complex automation scenes.

Pushing 3 times for inclusion in zwave does not work, heat controller does not start to blink, manual also mentions something different.

Can i use it manually if the batterys are empty?

Dear Korsan, the device controls its automation hardware which needs power to set the valve position. It means that no power cuts the manual control as well. The charging time takes up to 4 hours.
