Esther Yu plays a character who basically had a glow-up. Growing up, she was what some people would call “plain Jane” but she’s also a nerd. She’s a prodigy, a naturally gifted student. Because of this, she was bullied in school. She has a crush on the Professor since highschool because he’s a total package-he’s just like her, a prodigy but he’s very handsome and doesn’t seem to be aware of it because all he cares about is studying and getting into a prestigious school. Both of them go on to get accepted on a scholarship at the same college. Needless to say, she had a blind date with him in college but he brushed her off and didn’t show up which broke her heart but she still kept it secret that she’s still crushing on him. She went on to focus on school and got her PhD I can’t remember the exact name but it’s something to do with birds. He also got his PhD in Botany and he went on to become a professor and researcher in the verge of discovering a rare plant’s medicinal properties which brought him accolades from the scientific community. She, on the other hand because a famous Makeup and fashion Vlogger and part time professor since she does have a PhD. She was introduced to a new product who’s CEO wants her to be their next ambassador. In order to convince her fans online to buy the products, she wanted to personally do more science back research of the primary plant based ingredients the company claims which has the most efficacy to address skin problems and have a smoother, even skin. She put plans into motion to ask her crush Dr. zuang to just to a quick review of this product and see if it’s good enough to introduce in the market and in return, she can help him find his precious illusive plants that’s he’s doing research on. You see, she used to live in a rural farming community surrounded by forest and some mountains and it just so happens that her hometown is one of the only few areas in the country where this plant grows because it’s very scarce. So, from this day forward all the way to 3rd quarter of the film, they slowly got to know each other better. He started noticing that despite her constant putting so much effort in her physical appearance (hairstyle, fashion and makeup, image as a vlogger,) she also has another aspect of her that not a lot of people don’t see. She basically the total package and she’s not aware of it. She’s beautiful, witty, charming, stays firm when she believes some things are worth fighting for. She’s super smart, creative and think outside the box. She also has a high EQ and is generally well like by others because she’s naturally caring and nurturing, taming the untamable with her witty charm, and able to adapt and make changes quickly. Her persistence although can be quite annoying sometimes can also be endearing. It reminds him of himself. He doesn’t give up easily either. The professor realized that he misjudged her and stereotyped her and he almost missed out on a great potential friend and potential wife. He started falling for her and both their friends, families and colleagues support it. I like the storyline. It’s a slow build to their romance.
