Mordecai Weston It completely freaked me out ‼️and to this day I am still shook because that means final destination 5 is basically final destination 1 but it made me mad because throughout every movie everybody finally put the pieces together through Alex in final destination 1 because he was supposed to be the first one to have the premonition but since it technically wasn’t him and it was Sam it makes me mad🤦🏽‍♀️

My headcanon was always "what if Death gives the one with premonition the chance to leave the natural order intact?" just as a cruel joke where Death will let him/her live if they decide to let everyone else die. That would give a twisted edge to Mr. Bloodworth, as in maybe he's one of the people who had a premonition and didn't act on it, so Death spared him. Maybe he had the fascination with death even before the incident and that's the reason WHY he didn't act on it.
@simonhauwaerts4833
@simonhauwaerts4833 4 жыл бұрын
That's a super interesting idea! Though I feel like it would be pretty cruel of death not to give any sign to the 'player' that you're not supposed to save the others. I mean, only someone with something seriously wrong in their brain would spontaneously let a bunch of people die for no fucking reason, right? Then again, death doesn't seem like a particularly nice entity in these movies. So it could be!

If you think about it, Fight 180 happened because of Sam and his lover being on the plane whom survived the bridge incident. And while Sam did died, it did caused a tear (which was Alex and Co fleeing from the plane) and since that did happened that did caused the Highway incident survivors to cheat death because of it. So in a way, Death was tying up the loose ends caused by the bridge incident in a span of three movies.
@jinnoparangue9486

@@cmartin8093 yeah, since in FD2 when they're in the car talking about how they cheat death once and Clear tying up those said events to her friends from FD1, makes me think that maybe FD5 caused a butterfly effect on the rest of the future movies (1-4).

When I was a kid, my siblings and I were watching Family Guy in the living room. I went to the kitchen to pour myself some water. I set my cup and the gallon down on the little strip of counter space between the fridge and the stove. I started to pour the water but something I was hearing in that episode of Family Guy caught my attention, so I dropped what I was doing and went back to the living room to catch whatever funny moment was happening. When I went to the living room I heard glass explode (I hope you know what I mean, I'm not sure how to say it). I went back to the kitchen and I saw the shattered pieces of a plate that had been on the front right burner of the stove, a ceramic plate, that had exploded (shattered from the heat of the burner). I don't know why but my mom used to do that a lot. Maybe she thought plates on the burners looked nice, who knows. But I guess she had left the stove on, that particular burner that was right next to where I was standing when I was a kid at just the right height and in just the right place for that to have shattered and punctured something important and then killed me. I wish I remembered which episode of Family Guy distracted me, but I don't think I ever will. Every now and again I'll think back to that moment and I wonder what could have happened, but I'll be glad that whatever it was, it didn't. Praise God.

Unlike horror movies full of jump scares, this movie effected many people on a deep level. I remember working at a restaurant the year the first movie came out. The power went out and came back on after just a second. The manager said "Huh, that's weird." And I jokingly said "This is some final destination shit. The power went out for a second, which cuts out the pilot light on the gas griddle. The griddle stays hot for a while so we don't realize it's out as the room fills with gas. Someone slips on the wet floor and drops a pan, it slides across the ceramic tile floor creating a tiny spark and BOOM! We all burn to death." Right at that moment, another co-worker came in from taking out the trash and started mopping the floor. I looked at the manager and said "And there's our wet floor." The manager spent over an HOUR checking the pilot lights, the breakers, the fire extinguishers, the door locks, the fire exit, etc. Even went outside and checked how securely the bollards in front of the building were attached to the ground. LOL! Not gonna lie though, I double checked everything behind her...And to this day I get nervous driving behind a logging truck.

true horror isnt meant to change your life in ways you notice, true horror is why you dont go down a dark cold hallways at midnight but you cant quite tell why your scared, true horror will draw out the deepest fear you can experience, without you ever noticing, and lets be honest here, that long, dark, cold, hallway, is much worse then anything in final destination, because in final destination, you know why your scared, you have a rational reason to be scared, but irrational fear falls entirely on another scale. knowing is half the battle, something you cant see is always scarier then something right in front of you. look its up, there are shows centered around this very fact, the old reach in a box blindfolded gag is the best example possible, imagine for a second that there is a box in front of you, and you cant see it, nor whats inside, your told to stick your hand inside, and there is a 50/50 chance of death, or unimaginable wealth, sure, you might say you would do it, but lets be honest here, the fact that you could die without even knowing why would be the most terrifying thought that would ever cross your mind.

I really liked the first one - like a slasher movie without a slasher. I also felt it had the heart in the right place. My problem with the sequels is (apart from the increasingly silly deaths) that the characters have all become like water-balloons - their sole purpose is to burst and die, thus it's almost impossible to care for them.

I am all up for remakes, say "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" for example....but that was still two different takes around the same theme.....lazy hollywood cashgrabs cause someone had a cool idea to begin with, rarely work.. So yeah, decent remakes, like 15-20 years after, sure Im onboard..... carbon copy the first script and just add in new death scenes.....naaaw, just naaaaw.....not worth it....

In addition, killing someone on Death's list to gain their days doesn't even make sense, because you'd still die if they're supposed to die. There's actually a more consistent internal logic to cheating death a second time in these movies than you might think. With five actually being zero, we can conclude the William Bloodworth's theory that stealing another person's lifetime in order to survive was more or less off the mark, but in one and two, he only suggests "new life" will interrupt the chain of events... Which, officially, is never proven wrong. So, for anyone who wasn't aware, the first movie had an alternate ending where Ali Larter (the Kristen Stewart of the late 90s to early 2000s, imo) and Devon Sawa's (yes, that's THE Stan you're looking at!) characters hooked up and ended up having a kid. After that, it's heavily implied they're completely free to live normal lives and die normal deaths. Since this ending was replaced, most people don't know that this rule was actually introduced in the first movie and not in the second. Instead, the second movie *expands* on the rule, saying that simply dying and coming back to life constitutes a "new life", and thus the two main characters of *that* movie and its original disaster are saved, and, as Mr. Hollinger here has stated, never canonically killed off, even between movies. Therefore, you actually CAN beat Death at Their own game. You just have to be willing to die temporarily, or bump uglies until you're a parent. =P

Nah. The golden rule of entertainment is "Always Leave Them Wanting More"... And it seems like Hollywood has abandoned that mentality for "shovel as many sequels and remakes down their throats until they get so sick of it." Star Wars is a perfect example. For decades it was "make more Star Wars", then we got the prequels and a large portion of the fans were like "eh, never mind. thanks though." Now Disney has it and its like "okay, please stop. you are ruining this franchise." (thats a general consensus, I know theres gonna be a bunch of you out there going "I like the new ones!" in order to show how different and unique your opinions are.) Usually when you want more and they deliver it never meets expectations(re: star wars), it never holds up and you're left disappointed and that passion for the product is squandered and it ruins the glow of all of it. When a franchise or series stops and you want to see more but don't actually get more, that's a good thing. I know it's a little counter-intuitive to the notion of "wanting more".

Final Destination did scare me as a kid because the villain wasn't something that you could fight: death. Just death. And the inevitability of it. That eventually it'll come for you whether you want it to or not. It's the same reason that TV show 1000 Ways to Die freaked me out. Seeing and knowing there are so many ways we can kick the bucket was a harrowing thought... at the time. But nowadays, FD isn't nearly as scary. Especially as the series got more convoluted with the deaths. They stopped being probable or believable. I can believe being flung out of a rollercoaster seat, because I've been on some goddamn scary ones with a loose-ass feeling belt around my waist. But the scene you're talking about with the pool? I love this series because it hits very close to home for me. I have basically no memory of the events of 23 January, 1988--most of my memories prior to and including that night, and many since then, are similar to watching a home movie of a good friend's life. I was 15 years old and in a car that was hit head-on by a drunk driver on the highway. People who saw the vehicles before EMTs arrived thought it was a no-survivors crash, but all three of us survived; the drunk driver finally managed to kill himself five years later via drug overdose. The driver of my car broke both legs and several ribs, and lost all his teeth against the steering wheel. I was wearing a lap belt (thankfully!), so my hips were held in place (and broken in at least 3 places) while my upper body swung forward. The windshield fell in and broke against the top of my head at about double highway speed because of kinetic energy. I was in a coma for several weeks, in the hospital for a few months, and have been in recovery for over 3 decades. I react less to my own story than to the ones told in the Final Destination franchise because, well, I didn't see it and didn't understand much of it until long after the fact. Thank you for breaking it down for us, Ryan, and helping me understand why I'm so drawn to those movies. Oh, and I could listen to your voice all day!

@athannyx6815
@athannyx6815 5 жыл бұрын
I always thought the premonition was those characters having a particularly good ability to predict. indeed... All of the characters with premonitions often catch the deaths of the other characters before they come, the more elaborate they are, precisely as though death wants them to avoid that particular accident. I always wondered if they were meant to make sure the deaths stayed on course but preventing them their punishment is to be included with the rest. Because it's strange they are the last ones... The witnesses to make sure to realize what was going on and make the rest of them panic. I always found that they were scary precisely because death seemed upset at them. Which, to me, explained how elaborate those deaths kept becoming. I always wondered watching them, if a character accepted the inevitability of their death or even apologized to death in some way... Would the deaths have been less sadistic? Food for thought. Or maybe I always put more thought into these films then most who watched them. Who knows?

It's the deep fact of death, a normal fact of life that we all must accept. We don't know the hour or day of our deaths, for all we know, someone will probably die tomorrow or next week. Anything can happen at any time but when you start thinking about it too much, that's when you worry about it, and the more you worry, the worse the fear gets.

(They're tied.) *Favourite Character:* William Bludworth *Funniest Gag:* The moment in FD4 where the survivors go to check on George Lanter (the security guard), only to find out he's been unsuccessfully trying to kill himself ALL DAMN DAY. *Favourite ESPer:* Wendy Christensen (She needed better writing and dialogue, but I love Mary Elizabeth Winstead more than actual life itself.) And yes, I have the "worst" and "least favourite" answers to these categories, too. Also, *Most Underrated Concept:* That all the people in FD2 had to die because they were supposed to die sooner due to the events of FD1, but because that crisis was partially averted, they'd all already cheated death once. The pile-up was actually their *second time* cheating death. I kinda wish that had happened again at least once, even if it wasn't with EVERY character.

The Final Destination series made some of the most mundane, everyday things so terrifying. I'm always wary about the way the knife block is positioned, I check my cup isn't leaking, trucks carrying "secured" loads like logs and hay scare the shit out of me, and I hate the idea of travelling over that long of a bridge. Granted, some of the deaths were ridiculous, but many were shockingly plausible.

That’s something these people at Hollywood fail to understand! They think filling the entire film with jumpscares, loud noises, and creepy imagery is scary. Sure your heart skips a beat in the moment, but it’s not from fear it’s because you weren’t expecting it! Real horror lingers with you long after the movie’s over (like Final Destination) how many people *TILL THIS DAY* are/were scared to drive behind trucks, ride rollercoasters, or fly on planes because of this movie 😂 this movie gets your mind going and at the end of the day they made your imagination your worst enemy...

Fun fact; the scene where Terry gets hit by the bus in the first one freaked people out so much that they had to add in an extra 40 seconds of Alex and Clear drinking Alka-Seltzer and trying to calm down so that the audience could calm down as well. Those kinds of “suddenly getting hit by a vehicle” kills are pretty common now, but apparently they REALLY freaked out audiences in the early 2000s.

Since part 3 is your favorite, ever noticed that unlike the other movies the girl with the visions is (partly) responsible for every death? I'm not using the characters names here, since I can't be bothered to look it up: On the top of my head a few examples: The tanning salon girls would have been fine if she hadn't called, motor block guy would have been OK if she didn't bump the truck, Gym guy would have lived if her speech didn't pshych him into going all out on his equipment, nail gun girl died because she was interfering with teh boyfriends presumed death coming up. In this movie it's more like the main character is cursed with death, instead of death himself going after the victims, he's deligating his work :)

From what I heard, the writers or something stated that William Bloodworth is NOT death(which was sort of a popular-ish theory going around)), which makes a lot of sense because death is supposed to be unseen, it doesn’t HAVE a physical form hence why you can’t really fight it. I do think that Bloodworth is a grim reaper though, and everyone might be thinking “that’s the same damm thing as death!”, let me explain. Although everyone commonly likes portraying death as the grim reaper, especially in animation, it raises the question of why would death, a literal force of nature that’s constantly all over the place at once doing their job, have a physical form that everyone can see and potentially try causing harm to? Media has played into this idea of the grim reaper being death by having the grim reaper either get hurt & unable to currently perform the duties of death or actually die and this ends up leading to nobody dying, which kind helps feed into the idea that there would be no way that death would take a physical form at all because if something happened to death we’d all be fucked, hence why death is formless and the presence of the grim reaper is there for a much different job, that being collecting the soul to take to the property of the afterlife, like a repo man, a repo man who’s not collecting cars but instead a more morbid thing, the recently deceased souls. Now how does this tie into William Bloodworth’s character? Well he works in a morgue, a place where dead bodies are taken to once discovered, bodies that still have the soul trapped inside of and are in need of being taken and repossessed by the afterlife officially. It’s the smartest way for this grim reaper to be able to do his job in modern times without risk of being harmed for being perceived as death. His words are meant to inform our protagonists about death so that they can prepare themselves for it, because he knows eventually it will happen and he might as well take the chance that he’s given to try and comfort them the best he can(because let’s be real, it does seem weird the way he does it but you gotta remember that he works for death so yeah, it’s gonna look weird)

I always wondered if during these elaborate setups just to get them in position for the real death what would happen if they just stopped moving. It's probably a dumb thought but if a character ever just accepted that they were gonna die or maybe if they weren't afraid of it would that change anything? I always wanted to see a scene like that in one of these movies, because most of the deaths are either too quick for characters to react or long and drawn out just to have the real killing blow come out all of a sudden.

This series is rather consistent in quality excluding the 4th one (really bad, that one and the awful 3-D doesn't help). I mean, you really don't expect the 5th entry in a horror franchise to be arguably the best one, but it speaks to the overall quality of the series. I'd also add, however, a very simple reason why Bloodworth the mortician is so memorable and menacing; it's because he's portrayed by the motherfucking Candyman.

Another interings connection is how the 5th movie and the 3rd movie are connected. The 5th movie's life for a life rule was actually hidden in the 3rd movie's dvd. On the 3rd movie's special Choose Their Fate version, you can get an alternate beginning by selecting Tales on the coin flip they did in the ride line to see who gets the front seat. While the premonition stays pretty much the same, its end is different. It ends with Wendy having the vision while the group is still in line right before the coin flip occured. She intercepts the coin flip and gets her friends out of the line. Since other people took the spots on the coaster that the group would have taken, we see that they go on to live their lives. Since Death's books were balanced.

My favorite Final Destination was definitely Final Destination 2. It had the best twist and I really liked how other characters aside from the main protagonist could see clues. Nora's was probably my favorite death scene. It was rare to see a character who had found out the cause of her death, and was desperately trying to prevent it.
