At time of writing, we have yet to put our dog Olive down. She's 16 and has cancerous tumors in her mouth and it's started getting into her lungs. Bakugan Battle Brawlers? Now THIS was MY game as a kid. Oh the hours I spent on wii having fun. And the hours I spent not understanding how the actual physical game worked but having fun transforming the bakugan over and over. Gooooood times.

Your undying bond with Stinglash reminded me of how I used to love Siege. Always brought that boy to every battle no matter how hard it got. I like how despite having Leonidas, who’s a cool and badass bakugan all on his own, you’re free to choose what bakugan IS your partner. God I miss this game, so much nostalgia.

The entire thing with trying to get an early game Bakugan like Stinglash as far as you can in the game kinda reminded me of my recent playthrough of the game where I tried doing the same thing but with Serpenoid. I think I actually managed to get though the entire game with it I believe, but good job on making as far as you did with stinglash.

As a WR holder and a mod for the Bagkugan Speedrunning Community, I’m sad you didn’t even mention Battle Trainer for the DS. It’s the only game you can pet your bakugan and the tutorial gets interrupted because Dan GETS SHOT INTO SPACE

So, fun fact about the multiplayer of Battle Brawlers. You can interfere with other the player's shots like you can in the story mode. It is just as awful and relationship destroying as you would think. Plus, if I remember correctly, you can play as your endgame character and bring fully upgraded Omega Leonidas to battle against the preset un-upgraded Bakugan of the other playable characters.

Happy to report that the first iteration of Bakugan was huge in central Europe too, as me and my fellow Hungarian children also begged our parents for them. I had one that I was convinced was some variant of Hydranoid (Darkus Gang 4 Life), but I later found out was actually Hades, a robot doppelganger of Alpha Hydranoid, which makes him even cooler! And then the spring in him broke and I've never felt happiness since. It has been my life's mission to find one again, preferably at a charity shop or something, rather than buying one online for an extortionate price, if I find him in person, then it's meant to be, it's fate! Love the video, good job as always Jack! Glad to see we're both Darkus enjoyers.

Edit: holy shit bakuproject is great Sometimes when i sleep I dream I'm either in or playing a Bakugan battle brawlers video game sequel with even crazier stages, more in depth minigames, and a hell of a lot more characters and bakugan. Then I wake up pissed that the game doesn't actually exist

Darn, I remember having the DS port of this game, and for honestly no good reason seeing how much of a prick everyone was to my character at the start it genuinely made me just stop wanting to play the game and made me stop caring about Bakugan after laying down weekly allowance after weekly allowance, like that's impressive character writing. Also as someone who had to do the power battles without a stylus I can confirm the Xbox version is the definitive one.

On a side note, I remember how either my brother or I (can't remember too well which) found a bunch of Bakugan stuff at Goodwill, which included a giant Haos Bakugan and a big, metal, Draganoid-painted sphere, that opened up to store various Bakugan, which it was almost filled with, along with almost a full set of trap pieces for a Maxus Draganoid, which my brother already had a full set of. We never actually played the game, but it was still considered an awesome find by us.

Most of my experience with Bakugan was the anime and the Battle Brawlers game. I remember playing it a lot, and it's soundtrack was actually pretty good.

Woo! I loved Bakugan as a kid! And yeah, I fully agree with you when you say that the actual game was secondary to the marbles themselves. I would often bring some of them on the school bus to show others (which sadly led to my 1100G Razenoid breaking), and I even had several of the special figures: Maxus Helios, both Dharak and Dragonoid Colossus, a few deka bakugan, one or two of the anime-transforming ones, and even Mechtavius and Dragonoid Destroyer. But sadly, I was semi-forced to give most of my collection to my neighbor’s grand-nephew. However, I still have Mechtavius Destroyer and (hopefully somewhere) Maxus Helios, so my childhood isn’t completely gone. But with that being said, I admittedly never got into the reboot series; either of them. One episode of the show, and I didn’t click with the new tone, and I didn’t see as much appeal in the new marbles. Though I will admit that I’m somewhat interested in the combiner figures, even though they’re most likely out of print by this point. As for the rest of the month, I’m pretty excited for it. I’m not really into Beyblade as much, but the shows are interesting. With Chaotic, though, I’ll drop everything else once that episode drops!

I can't overstate how much I loved it to unhealthy levels but I'm gonna try: • Alice and Shun were my favourite human characters and I decided to grow my hair out and, later on, help out at my girlfriend's parents' café cuz I wanted to be more like them -- I'm 23, i have not had my hair cut since I was 8, i've spent 10 years as the café's helper and I have no problems with not being paid for it • My nana (who was always a bit... kooky) gave me my Nintendo DS one Christmas morning; my first game wrapped with it was the Bakugan game cuz even she knew how much I was into it. • Preyas is my religious deity, and I take all his words deadly seriously • i can name every single bakugan in existence, including the ones in the japanese reboot • I have a literal wooden crate filled with all of my Bakugan and I vowed at 12 years old to take with me to my grave so I will never part with them (and that is still my dying wish) AND SO I WILL DIE WITH MORE BALLS THAN ANYONE • You can't say you quote things insufferably often cuz I've had legitimately lost friends over my obsession with this franchise • My headcanons would make conspiracy theorists concerned about my mental state I could go on for like an hour but I can't now cuz I'm running those underground Bakugan brawling rings that were in the commercials (no you can't come, it's for diehard Battle Brawlers only)

I even had a cheat code book to get locked Bakugan. This was one of the games of my childhood of all time. 7/10 from me.

Oh man... Bakugan was a pretty big part of my childhood during the Legacy series that I sadly don't remember too well nowadays. I loved collecting these cool little pop out figures and have fond memories playing the DS game, even if my dumb kid brain didn't really understand it. I was really surprised to see them again in stores somewhat recently as I was completely unaware of the first revival series, tho. I thought it just emerged out of the ether after 10 years lol. I've thought about trying to find the original show online somewhere, too, even if it might not be that great. Its a part of my childhood I barely remember that I'd like to revisit.

My entire brain lit up with nostalgia when I saw this. This game was awesome. The different stages were unique and interesting. And it was so freaking cool having your own unique Bakugan in Leonidas. Now, if we can get a Defenders of the Core video. My brain might melt from pure excitement. Cause that game was pretty damn good. At least the fighting part is.

I remember having a blast on the DS version of this. I also remember not having to deal with the annoying arenas as I believe they’re almost entirely just reskins of the tutorial arena due to the DS’s limited hardware. It helped alot

Ah yes, Bakugan! A French Teletoon staple of my youth! Never bothered to learn the game and probably played with the bakugans like they were figures. Among those Bakugan I had all of the season 1 main teams ones (minus Hydranoid, I only had his 2 headed form as a happy meal toy), 5 Dragonoids with only 2 pyruses. With one of them being from a Maxus Dragonoid Multipack, and the other one being Helix Dragonoid (Ventus like yours). I remember seeing commercials where the pack-in bakugan with the DS version of this game was one who looked like an ogre in armor and had a big mass (I'm not sure that it was the bad guy, probably another bakugan). In ball form, it looked like an "X" with his arm to the upper sides. Was a Subterra from what I remember. I did like what I saw of the Battle Planet reboot when it was aired in my country (at least decent in spite of the stuff bugging me off a bit) when I was in my late teens, but then 2020 happened, I stopped watched TV, and I stopped watching Battle Planet. Didn't even knew about the 2023 reboot. Good luck for Beyblade and Chaotix!

Bakugan battle brawlers is one of my first DS games, which I had since before I was 10.. I think. I had a ton of fun with it The DS power battles were touch screen controlled with rubbing, spinning, and tap-mashing

I also think we need to add LBX to this series because its basically just cool lil gundams, the 3DS Game is like Armored Core, and IN THE ANIME, THEY SEND CHILDREN TO SPACE WITH GIANT VERSIONS OF THESE TOYS TO FIGHT ALIENS

The Bakugan Battle Brawlers game on Wii was THE first video game I got from start to finish, so it will forever be in mind my the reason I love video games so much

If I remember correctly Leonidas was actually Haos canonically as he was meant to be the opposite of Vladitor. Both hyper fixated on power at first, but Leonidas differed in how he realized that power wasn’t the only thing worth pursuing in life and realizing having others to rely on can mean you can be as strong as you want, but being alone will always make you weak. In the first reboot they got rid of Subterra for ‘Aurelus’, not released in the first but I think second wave of Battle Planet, and was the focus of one of the card sets. It always had fewer cards sadly, and with the game getting less support after Geogan released we sadly never saw the full extent of what Aurelus could be. Aurelus was the card attribute or ‘faction’ that was full of MTG style modal cards, you can get one of two effects, and while Aurelus was weaker I do believe the point was supposed to be that they had more utility than any other Faction. In the show/lore Aurelus is the strongest Faction, and were basically the Jedi Council faction. I never watched the show but Aurelus was a major faction to the point that two villains were Aurelus. The ‘Ultimate Viloch’ and ‘Geoforge Dragonoid’ were our combiners like what you’d expect of Maxus Dragonoid and all. Unlike the old combiners, though, the reboot combiners had no gameplay function and were for the aesthetic. Part of why the Legacy series died was stuff like how Maxus Dragonoid had a gameplay function, as did the other 19 billion extra gimmicks. For the first Reboot you didn’t even need the extra stuff, just the cards. The saddest thing was we never got more focus on Leonidas outside the games though. His reboot design wasn’t great and everyone was sad over how underwhelming his new iteration was, but it was still amazing to see him again. Many have made molds of him as remaking molds has been a big thing in the fandom for a while. People have made Silent Naga, who never got a toy, Old Leonidas and Alpha Leonidas, we even have seen someone make The Winged Dragon of Ra as a Bakugan

OMG I LOVED THE OG BAKUGAN VIDEO GAME I've sunken so many hours into the game, getting through the tournaments, collecting Bakugan and cards, getting all the other characters' signature bakugan, bumping the soundtrack, this game is such a vibe There was a ton of passion and depth put into this game and I really respect it....I'm even down to rewatching the show whenever I can Thx for the video bumble ❤

Watching the gameplay brought me the biggest wave of joy and nostalgia I have felt in a while. Needless to say I am now $8 poorer and need to set up my Wii.

Glad to see you enjoyed the game for the most part! I had the ds version and honestly love it way more than Wii. It feels more pick up and play in its nature with less to focus on outside the battles. Also the mini games are kinda fun with the stylish. And the music is still a boop on the ds. Also the g powers are vastly different with even the lowest serpenoid getting to 440 g power at max. So the tragic stinglash situation never happened especially since stinglash is unlocked much later in the game. So it has a higher overall power!

little fact: the bakugan game made on roblox is also made by the same company that did the official sonic game on roblox. What makes it sadder is that after the sonic game came out, several ex-developers that had work on the sonic game has spoken out against how harsh the work enviroment is and also how much the company undervalues employees with one of them speaking out at how the ceo can be super agressive towards the employees

I had this game on my 3DS, good times and nauseating car trips were the bulk of my childhood.

5:00 through 5:19 - Yeah that sums up why I even collected them myself, not even religiously either. They were basically off brand Mini-cons that looked just as robotic and cool as my actual Transformers. Used to have a metal room lamp and just stuck all the Bakugan I had on, they were fun. Still got all my Bakugan but sadly not the lamp.

1:09 He listed off Ninjago as one of the things cashing in on the success of pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh. When it first started out he would be right, but Ninjago has grown to be so much more since then.

I remember really enjoying the DS game, it’s in quite the similar vain to its console counterparts, barring the expected reeling in of the visuals and the touchscreen controls in the minigames. Leonidas is still my favourite of the Bakugan, and it’s surprising they never cashed in on his popularity during the legacy run.
